Ted's personal ad

Hey y'all...hope everyone's having a good weekend!

I just thought I'd give a personal ad a shot, and provide some details about yours truly...hope this catches the eye of that special someone!;) Here goes...

I'm 24, and live in So Cal, near Los Angeles. I'm a recent college grad, having earned a BA in French Studies. I'm currently looking for work with an arts- or education-related non-profit, at first in an administrative assistant position, then hopefully movin' on up the ol' proverbial ladder. Of course, what I really want to do is write, while working on the side. :D

I'm 5', with light brown hair, hazel eyes, a nice smile (or so I'm told), a muscular upper body, and I use a wheelchair. I have photos I can send to anyone interested.

I enjoy reading, especially sci-fi/horror/fantasy. Stephen King and Vernor Vinge are among my favorite authors. I love to draw, and have always been a bit of an artiste. If I ever get around to acquiring a scanner, I might put some of my work in our photo album! I also enjoy the theatre, and am a fledgling opera fan. I enjoy some TV, but am not glued to it as I was in my teenage years. I do, however, still religiously watch 'The Simpsons.' I am definitely a HUGE movie buff, however. I have a growing video collection (ALMOST about to make the switch to DVDs...woowoo!), and enjoy all kinds of movies...'Jaws' has been one of my favorite movies most of my life- Robert Shaw's monologue about the sinking of the USS Indianapolis is classic. I also have 'Casablanca,' 'The Matrix,' 'The Birds,' 'The Seven Samurai,' 'The Breakfast Club' and The BBC/Discovery Channel special 'Walking With Dinosaurs' in my collection. Anyhoo, you get the picture, I think. I love movies. Since I was about 12 years old, I have also been an avid skier, and try to go up to Big Bear at least once a year to hit the slopes. Some of you may be askin' how a guy in a wheelchair can ski. I use what's called a monoski. You basically sit in this plastic bucket (not always the most comfortable thing), which itself sits on a single ski about a foot or two above the ground. You also use these two 'outriggers' to steer- the outriggers are basically ski poles with mini-skis on the tips. Lots of fun. You'll never get me to go on a black diamond run, tho'. What can I say.

Other things I enjoy: Doing crosswords, exercising by rolling my wheelchair around the neighborhood, hanging out with friends, dancing, dancing, dancing, eating (I'm like a goat, which I gues makes some sense since I'm a Capricorn- I'll eat most anything, unless it's too spicy or too green and leafy :p ...although I have taken a liking to spinach in recent years...strange. Ah well.), roughhousing with my dog, a 6 year old Boston terrier, and, LASTLY, I am, as hinted at earlier in this tome of a post, I love to write. Guess it might show here. :p I just love to hear myself talk. Or see myself type, whatever the case may be. Anyways, I love to write, it has long been my passion, and I hope one day to have my work published. I'm currently working on a sci-fi novel. I posted some 'alien poetry' which ties in to the novel, elsewhere on the boards. I then took it down, partially outta shyness, and partially cuz it was so darn long. I would love to hear comments about my work, so if you wanna take a look at this 'alien poetry' or parts of the actual novel-in-progress itself, let me know!

Well, well, well...what else can I say about myself? I consider myself a spiritual person, although I don't really identify with one particular faith or denomination. I believe that important life lessons can be taken from all different kinds of religions- Western, Eastern, etc.

I can be a bit shy at first, when I'm first getting to know someone...but once you break me outta my shell, I can be goofy, extroverted, opinionated and, just in general, fun to be around! I'm not the one always talking at the dinner table, even with family, but I will occasionally pipe in with my pearls of wisdom:p .

I love animals, and all of nature, and definitely prefer to the city, someplace where I can stroll under the trees, under the stars, listening to all the critters scurry around. That's a wonderful environment for thinking, meditating, and just throwing away all the mental/emotional junk that builds up in a typical hectic, busy, frazzling, exhausting day.

I always try and have a smile on my face to greet everybody, strangers and friends, even those who frown or look away in return.

And now, it's past 11 PM here in So Cal, so my brain's beginning to fail me...why do I always get the idea to write my posts late at night??? Doh... Anyhoo, if you've made it this far down my post, I think I'm almost done, and will add more later.

BUT...before I close...who am I looking for, you ask? Well, I'm hoping to find an older woman here in So Cal, someone who shares some of my same interests, someone who feels she may have some other stuff in common with me as well. I'm hoping to meet someone who is intelligent, mature, with a GREAT sense of humor, sensitive, affectionate but not clingy. This someone must have a respect for animals/nature/and all of mankind, regardless of nationality, skin color, etc.

And now, as the gentle hum of my computer is lulling me to sleep, I will have to stop for now. I will add additional stuff about me, as I think of it. 'Good night, my someone, goodnight...'

-Ted

P.S.- If anyone should want to email me directly, my addy is 'ted_newman@hotmail.com.' Talk to y'all later! :p

Dear Ted,

Even though I live in Texas I wanted to tell you that I think you are great. Loved reading what you had to say and wished you lived closer here because I think we would become good friends. I hope you find a nice lady there in California Ted. Please feel free to e-mail me if you want an internet buddy and I wish you all the best.

I agree with Midge - I loved reading your message! I was also surprised that you had a Boston Terrier. I had two of them when I was growing up. I haven't seen any of that breed for years. Also being a skier what are you doing in Calif? You should be out here in Ski Country USA (aka Colorado). ;) I am a voracious reader and like sci fi and fantasy, would like to read what you have written. Have a wonderful and blessed Holiday season!

Hey y'all...just wanted to share with you all that, after several months of oh-so-fun job searching, I was offered a position as an office assistant at a local high school...I told my soon-to-be boss that I wanted to think it over tonight, but I'm gonna tell her 'yes,' and I start on Monday! Woowoo!:p

Oh Ted good luck with your new job! Yes, I read your post and think you are one interesting if not inspiring guy.

I too love Sci Fi and have a friend that has some short stories published. What I am saying is, it would be cool to read your work.

Good luck, and I am sure you will find that special person someday.

hugs
Tzig :)

OK, maybe this is bad etiquette, but I'm gonna commit some shameless self-promotion and bump my ad up. Woowoo.

hi Raven!

Thanks for the kind words...you sound really great as well! Your home along the American River sounds lovely. Perhaps I will have to visit some day!;) It truly sounds like something I should see... Speaking of nature and animals, I am going to go let my poor dog out of the rain right now... But feel free to PM me or email me at 'ted_newman@hotmail.com'. I would love to hear from you.
