You all...
If a really large jar of honey fell and broke, and thick honey pooled all over your oriental rug, what would you do to get it out?
These are hand made rugs....and it's all in the fringe and the backing and just...
HELP?
Whoa! That sucks!
Got a dog? Biscuits and butter? :)
Sorry, I don't know, other then try to wash it out, maybe in the bathtub with some hot, soapy water.

Wipe up as much honey as possible with paper towels and rags and such.....
and then soak the stained portions in warm water.
However I have NO idea how the water will affect the carpet. It might shrink it.

I have a good oriental on the boat. I have taken it on the dock and used laundry detergent on it... hose it off completely... let dry
I have used foam carpet cleaner.
I have used Resolve.
The carpet is just fine.
(there is nothing like a real oriental rug!)

Guys..thanks.
This not a little rug Pita, it's an large area rug...and it's hand in Turkey. It would probably weigh a ton wet!..and it would probably ruin it ;)
How big of an area is covered with honey? If its just on an edge by the fringe...that shouldn't be too difficult. I don't think honey would stain, it just gets sticky. If you could get a big, shallow tupperware like storage container, the kind you slide under your bed to put shoes in or something, one of those....and just lay the sticky part of the rug over that filled with warm water, and just try to rinse the honey off over the plastic container......just an idea.
:)

Is it time to have the carpets cleaned? I'd just have a professional come in. If it's a handmade rug from Turkey, it's worth it.

OMG...LOL
Im laughing at my use of the English language up there...
It's hand in Turkey!!! LOL
I'm sorry Pita, I was on the phone with my boss and trying to type at the same time....apparently multi-tasking is not my forte!
But thanks for the suggestions y'all!!!! It wasn't my rug, it was Despina's rug. While we were on the phone....apparently a big old crystal container of honey fell off the shelf and broke all over the rug. So not only was it honey, but little shards of glass all stuck in the honey..YIKES.
I said..lets post on Ageless and pick some brains! But apparently I am not all that good at talking and typing at the same time. And to think I type for a living..it's funny.
Anyhow, I called my step mother who is an interior designer and knows a lot about fabrics and stuff...and she said we could try white vinegar mixed half and half with warm water...and if that didn't work like Kat said..call the professionals!
We'll have to wait for Desp to post to know how it turned out.
Thanks guys...your awesome! ((hugs))

My sister has large hand made oriental rugs from Pakistan. She said they always have to be professionally cleaned, not to try to do it yourself. They are too expensive! But so also is the cleaning. So sorry this happened to you. :(
