Miss Kitty has passed on....

My beautiful cat, Danielle, took a turn for the worse after having a slow decline in her health and weight over the past two years and I had to euthanize her last week.

That's part of the reason I haven't been around, the other part is that my boyfriend, in comforting me, did an about-face from being a monster and has returned to his usual, wonderful self. So, we've been spending a lot of time chatting online and talking on the phone and being happy and planning our next visit.

I've had my cat since I was a teenager, and she's been wonderful. She led a good life, for the most part (some close calls, like fights with other animals and that time she ate asbestos and had to spend a week in a cage on IV). Danielle's survived by Max, Odie, Rebel and Angel (who live with various friends and family).

Just thought I'd pay tribute to my beloved kitty. Thanks for listening.

I'm so sorry you lost a member of your family. She had a good life, and that's what really matters. What a beautiful kitty she was.

So sorry to hear of your loss, Charlotte. She is a beauty, your Danielle. I lost my beloved kitty of 18 years last year, and was a very hard time for me. I did just get a new kitty, she is precious to me of course, but will always keep Daisy in my heart close by. Hope you too will find love and friendship when ready, for another kitty in your future. :) :)

It was really hard the night I stayed up all night with her and then placing her limp body in a lined box and wrapping her with a blanket. I'll bury her in the spring when I visit my father's place up north. He plans to retire there so I'll be able to visit her everytime I visit and plant a new flower.

I've had pets that died before (dog, cats, rodents and reptiles), but I wasn't prepared to feel THAT sad when she died.

I was trying to make sure my kids were okay (they had said bye to her before school) and my littlest one said, "Yeah, I'm kinda sad that Danielle died. But I'm not as sad as you are!" And he was right :)

Thanks again for the kind words. I feel much better knowing that it's over and she's not suffering anymore.

I have a male kitty, Steimy, who I got at a shelter when he was only 8 weeks old. He has CLUB paws and is slightly retarded. He is now almost 16 yrs old and has lost 4 lbs in 3 months. I had tests done on him (he was always a large Tom, and always a bit overweight! BUT he was always healthy). But these tests revealed abnormal liver count and a CT scan was in order. I don't know what to do as I also have 3 large dogs, a bird and 2 large aquariums (125 gallon)---the expense is incredible lately ! I've already spent 250.00 for the blood tests and they want another 300.00 for a CT scan. I just had a 300.00 dog vaccine bill as I have a senior pit bull as well who is on 60.00 a month meds.

I know how awful it is to feel a loss---but I'm not even going to begin to try to understand your loss of your Little Danielle! May God Bless you and hold you in the palm of His Hand during this difficult time.

Oh, Charlotte, I'm so sorry. It's one thing to lose a pet, quite another to lose one that you've had sooooo long. She's had a wonderful life with you though, and you'll always have those memories.

To help comfort you, Charlotte:

I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one,
I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when day is done.
I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.
I'd like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun,
of happy memories that I leave behind when day is done.

Native American Prayer

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there. I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that swiftly blow.
I am the diamond glint on new-fallen snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the soft and gentle autumn rain.

When you wake from sleep in the early morning hush,
I am the swift, up lifting rush of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft, star light at night.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there. I do not sleep.

Thanks again, everybody, for the kind words.

Paigey girl: Steimy sounds sick...but old. Some things just stop working right for them as they age. My mother's cat (Angel, my cat's kitten) got a liver disease from my mother feeding her table scraps, and then she refused to eat cat food.

Her vet bill was about $3000 to keep the kitty alive and she's in perfect health now.

I suggest that if Steimy's treatable that you work some affordable payment options with your vet and see what can be done.

Good luck.
