Operx 03-05-2006, 03:23 PM I was wondering what movie/movies you are waiting to see?
I am waiting for the new superman movie and V for Vendetta.
I just have to see how they ruin superman :p
kittylane 03-08-2006, 03:34 AM actually looking back in the last year its been great, i have enjoyed most that i have seen.
i am very interested in seeing the davinci code, i am really wondering why tom hanks and the director (forget his name, opy on the andy griffins show) would venture into these waters.
i find much of the davinci code offensive, it is a total misrepresention of Jesus. dont freak out by that comment, i just hold some things sacred, otherwise i would have to say i am pretty open minded to all facets of human existance.
lencarol 03-08-2006, 08:11 AM I look forward to DaVinci Code as well. Of course, Tom Hanks is good in anything he does. Am fairly liberal when it comes to theological revisionism. I don't hold the answers to be cut and dried anymore. It would have been very odd for Jesus NOT to be married as a young Jewish man. And DO like that Mary Magdalene is not any longer pictured as a prostitute (a made up "occupation" given her by one of the long ago popes--Gregory?). My theology so rusty..... Anyway, she can take her proud place back in history as an integral part of Jesus' ministry. These theories also postulated by more progressive theologians such as Spong, Borg, and Funk. They view virgin birth as a non-occurrence.
kittylane 03-08-2006, 12:35 PM lencarol the parts about mary mag being a prostitute or jesus married does not phase me, i understand speculation. what bothers me is that it is Jesus that Christians hold as example and reference, to switch it to mary mag and make out there she was a messiah kinda really bugs me. she may have been many great things but she wasnt the messiah.
our bible is perfect in reference to the actual things that Jesus said, all other info is interpretation, i tend to focus on His teachings. W.W.J.D.? a great way to aspire to live life.
lencarol 03-08-2006, 07:27 PM Not sure the progressive scholars are going for that at all--that she was the Messiah. Did not know that was part of the DaVinci Code story! I have seen documentaries on DaVinci Code and the alleged descendants of Jesus, and don't recall her being referred to as Messiah either.
rkstud632 03-09-2006, 12:02 PM No it's said she carried the blood of Jesus and that would ba a girl and in the alleged decendants my family line is in theremy mother and i have have traced it back that far. But enough of that I'm waiting to see how the ruin Superman, The X-men and V for Vendetta. The Shaggy Dog is already ruined for me . The original was an Old English Sheepdog the new one is a bearded Collie so Disney can kis my white you know what
SilentAngel84 03-09-2006, 01:44 PM I wanna see the Hills have Eyes.
I don't know if i shall have time this weekend, but soon.
Flytrapp 03-09-2006, 08:50 PM The Libertine with Johnny Depp... going tomorrow night.
kittylane 03-09-2006, 10:05 PM what i mean is the book made more importance of mary mag part of Jesus's story. Goddess worship was the supposed correct turn we as people of faith were supposed to take?
it messes with facts and fiction. Jesus gets a bad rap, we have serious faith-filled Muslims on this board (thank God) ask them if a major motion picture were to depict Mohammad in this fashion. i can imagine they would be able to put into words their distaste and concern that their message was being altered to sell movie tickets in a much more eloquent way than i am.
as i said, Jesus has been the scapegoat for 2000 years. what bothers me is that people now will take the movie as fact, as the book implies and completely loose the message. shame on the movie producers and writers....
talking pie 04-08-2006, 12:20 AM American Dreamz looks interesting. The Weitz brothers (American Pie,About a Boy,In Good Company) have yet to disappoint me.
I'm bummed out that Catch and Release got pushed back a year. I was looking forward to it's April release since an OW celeb crush of mine, Jennifer Garner (she's 8 1/2 years older than moi), is in it. Her and Rachel McAdams (2 years older than me) are the two celeb "sweethearts" that matter to me the most. *sigh*
Patricia 04-08-2006, 03:49 PM I am looking forward to the Daddy Yankee movie "Straight Outta The Barrio" due to be released this summer.
Dean White 04-08-2006, 05:44 PM Sin City 2 and 3,Rocky 6,Spiderman 3,Harold and Kumar go to Amsterdam,Van Wilder 2: Rise of the Taj
Bella_D 04-08-2006, 06:44 PM what bothers me is that people now will take the movie as fact, as the book implies and completely loose the message. shame on the movie producers and writers....
Kittylane, I wouldn't worry too much; audiences know when they're sitting in the movies watching a piece of fiction, they're not silly.
The thing is, since the bible was written a couple of hundred years after Jesus's death based on `word of mouth', by people with all sorts of political & patriachal agendas, it is natural for authors and film-makers to question aspects of its validity. You can't stop a quest for the truth, but you can choose what you want to believe:)
Crysania 04-21-2006, 02:18 PM I was waiting for V for Vendetta and I just got a chance to see it last weekend.
AMAZING movie. Did anyone else see it? I'm surprised there hasn't been more discussion about it.
