Discussion/Debate Sections

It seems to me that the majority of posting-members do not post in the "Discussion" or "Debate" sections. As a result, members are starting threads in the "Chit Chat" section that probably belong in those other sections because they want to reach more members, and this seems to work.

Anybody feel like sharing why they read posts in those sections and don't post themselves, or why they don't go there at all?

If a thread is started in "Chit Chat" and then moved to "Discussion" or "Debate", do you follow it? Do you post after it's been moved?

If anyone wants to respond, but doesn't want to post it under their name, private message me and I'll post it annonymously.

i'll tell ya, as a mod, what IIII do.....

everytime i log on, i hit...up at the top...."new posts"....then i read (or skim or attempt to read) the threads in the sections i am responsible for.

the "new posts" thingie is super cool because it pulls up ALL the newest posts since your last log on. no matter what section they're in.

and if something IS in chit chat that would be better suited to another section....i think all us mods do this.......we move it but we leave a "redirect"......the thread title is still in chit chat, but when you click it, you're redirected to the section that the thread is NOW in. and if you just look at that section....say Debate for example, you'll also see the thread there. this happens often when looking thru the new members section. new members will actually post their concern there and we move it, with a redirect, to the section it's better suited to.

i've been here for way over a year and i JUST discovered the "new posts" button about 8 months ago, i love it, i don't know how i browsed the site without it.

I think there is a perception that if you start the discussion in Chit Chat, more will participate because it's a busier part of the forum. And that is true, I am sure. However, when it involves discussion, it seems to me that typically the same people who would discuss the issue if the thread were in Discussion or Debate are also the same ones who participate in the discussion in Chit Chat.

So, when starting a discussion thread in Chit Chat, all one is doing is gaining more exposure, but not necessarily getting more to participate, if that makes sense.

Thanks GreenEyedGirl and Whiterose! No one else wants to talk about this, and I'm cool with that! :D I was just curious.
