Wanted to share with you all a step over the weekend that has given me much confidence.
My SO met my parent's this weekend for the first time. He has met my sister many times(4-5) and she invited him to come to my niece's baptism. I expected him to say no but he wanted to attend. So I called my parent's to let them know I would be bringing a gentleman friend with me. I left it at that. My SO met my mom and her husband, My dad and his wife, my aunt and uncle and my two cousins. Everyone was nice. Both my mother and father and others spoke to him in conversation. My SO actually remembers my dad in working on a development project many years ago here in town(my dad was a consultant).
All I can say is whew! You know of course I am 34 years old so I am more than old enough to make my own decisions. I mentioned on the phone to my mother and father end of last week that I had not mentioned him before because it had not come up in conversation(which they never asked). Basically my dad said that I didn't need their "blessing" anymore, which is correct.
So this opens the door to family.
My SO did beautifully. He is one of those gentlemen who can warm up to anyone in a crowd. I was so very proud and everyone knew it.
