We miss him. He has been staying in our old town until we could get settled at our new place. He will be moving here today tho. He needs lots of things done. A good grooming first of all. And a visit from the ferrier tomorrow. We already have an appointment. He's getting new shoes :D YAY!

"Lucky Charmer" had a visit from the vet yesterday. He is getting caught up on all his vaccinations. He had to have a rabies and a west nile. Also had to have a "Coggins" test. I am not sure what that is all about. Does anyone know?I think its to check for various problems
He seems to be adjusting his new home pretty well.
For those who remember, Charmer is our horse that someone cut his mane and tail really short. You will be happy to know that it is growing back out and doesn't look too awfully odd now.

A Coggins is a blood test that checks for Equine Infectious Anemia - a very rare disease that horses get from each other through a biting fly vector. Basically, its like when you take your dog for a heartworm check - you want a negative test result back (the diseases are NOT similar, just the concept of the negative test...). You can look up things about EIA online, but not to worry - in the 9 years that I've been an equine vet, I have thankfully never had a Coggins test come back positive and I practice in Florida, where there are a ton of horses AND biting flies! You should get the results in like 7-10 days depending on the lab. :)
