iluvmonkeys2 06-14-2006, 08:27 AM don't know if anyone out there knows anything at all about this, but my little kitty (she's about 14 months old) has started sneezing like crazy! and i'm not talking about cute little kitty sneezes every once in awhile...i'm talking about full out, full blown, wake me up in the night sneezes...she doesn't go outside and only interacts with our older cat...anyone have any insights as to what might cause this???
windrushed 06-16-2006, 01:53 AM It might be allergies...dust from being inside all the time. Maybe pollens, they are high this year and can effect you indoors, unless you have a vent system. Could be a simple cold. I wouldnt worry too much unless there is excess mucus and cloudy eyes.
My kitty has allergies and sneezes often. Sometimes she wakes me up at night.
How old is your kitty(oh just read 14 months) and what color or kind. Mine is a tabby siamese mix creme and black....i also have a red point siamese...i just love kitties!
My creme colored one is about 14 years old, the new red point is only about 10 months.

kindanice 06-16-2006, 11:51 AM i had a kitty once that did this, turned out to be feline luekemia:( you might want to call the vet.
eponavet 06-17-2006, 05:55 PM Actually, calling the vet is a good idea. Has your cat been properly vaccinated? The most likely culprit is a viral or bacterial upper respiratory tract infection, and certainly cats with feline leukemia are more suseptible to infections in general because FeLV supresses their immune system. But that is the most serious scenario. Many cats get upper respiratory tract infections that can be resolved with supportive care or with anitbiotics. Your veterinarian can best evaluate and determine any underlying cause.
*Many people may know this, but just an aside...never give cats advil or tylenol - they can't metabolize these anti-inflammatories and they are toxic to them.
iluvmonkeys2 06-18-2006, 09:58 AM thanks so much for your replies...she actually seems better but i'm keeping a close eye on her to be sure and will call the vet if she starts up again...
she's a gray tabby mix...we think she actually has some bengal in her...she's cute as can be, but skitish as all get out...she's gettin' better though...actually lets my daughter pick her up now...

CabinFever 06-18-2006, 04:14 PM Glad to hear she seems to be getting better. But, definately keep an eye on it. If there's any sort of discharge that comes out, get her to a vet. An upper respiratory infection in a cat can be VERY hard to get rid of.
Patricia 06-18-2006, 04:54 PM She is SO cute! I hope she doesn't get too Bengal or you might have to get all new vinyl furniture!
kindanice 06-18-2006, 06:06 PM awwwww, shes a cutie:)
Faith 06-18-2006, 06:28 PM awwwww, shes a cutie:)
She really is darling. I'm glad she seems to be doing better, but I think you should take in her for a little checkup anyway. Better to be safe than sorry. :)
Science Goddess 06-28-2006, 11:02 PM Ack. Sweetie, consider taking her to the vet.
One of my former (gone to heaven) kitties did this for a stretch of time, and one day she sneezed really hard and when I looked at her, it appeared that she had a piece of yellowing grass on the end of her nose.
I reached to pick it off and it stuck. Turned out that she had a thick stem jammed up into her sinuses, and had been for (to the best of my recollection) a couple of weeks. I had to hold her down to pull it out of her nose - it was STUCK up there.

I felt so bad. It must have hurt like the dickens, and what if it had gotten all infected? She may have died.
She had kitty allergies, too - hayfever sometimes - but these were not just little kitty sneezes.
lencarol 06-29-2006, 06:36 AM My wonderful kitty (may she rest in peace) before this one I now have, had very bad allergies and prone to bronchitis. She had to go in at least once a year for her antibiotics, and usually twice yearly for a steroid shot to control her allergies. It was a sad sight to watch her sneezing and sneezing, and looking up at me pitiably to do something for her! So you might think about allergy shots for her to get her quieted down and give some comfort.:)
BellaLove 06-29-2006, 12:24 PM Both my cats had the sneezes a couple weeks ago. I figured it was just a cold.....they got better in a few days. But they were certainly sneezing like crazy, poor things!! I didn't get too worried because they are both indoor only cats and we always take our shoes off in the house.......plus I had a cold myself right before they got sick, so it just got passed on. :-)
iluvmonkeys2 06-30-2006, 10:09 AM awww SG your poor kitty....she must have been so miserable...
thanks for all of your responses....andi is doing great...haven't heard her sneeze in over a week, but i'm still keepin' a close eye on her...
