hello all...
maybe this has already been talked about, but thought i would start a thread on older women, younger men movies(or books)

harold and maude...the biggest age difference ever in a movie(i think) and my favorite movie

white palace.....the most realistic movie i have seen about this subject...

the graduate...not very realistic, in my opinion, but entertaining,..wish i had been seduced like that.

tadpole....haven't seen it yet, but hear it is good.

i praise of older women....a book that is fairly good...but i love the title...

how stella got her groove back...also realistic and fun
there are several french movies that i will look up....
if i remember correctly, the french selections are...
romance
the pianist

i will go to the video store and get the rest of the titles that i know..there are probably about 10 more that i am not thinking of right now...and i would love to hear from others more movies:) especially with bigger age differences..i would love to remake the harold and maude movie...wouldn;t that be fun?

Y Tu Mama Tambien

Synopsis:

The lives of Julio and Tenoch, like those of seventeen-year old boys everywhere, are ruled by raging hormones, intense friendships, and a headlong rush into adulthood. Over the course of a summer, the two best friends discover a connection with heachother and the world around them while in the middle of a carefree cross-country escapade with Luisa, a gorgeous older woman.

You can get this movie in rated or unrated versions. I haven't seen it yet, it's a relatively new movie although it's already out on video.

is a movie directed by Roman Polanski, who lives in France but was born and raised in Poland in Jewish family. Most of the movie was filmed in Poland and Polanski also acts in that movie.

I've seen "Unfaithfull".. Isn't she also older than her lover?

This is a classic movie, one from the 1950s, but it illustrates the OW/YM relationship very effectively. Stars Jane Wyman and Rock Hudson as the lovers.

It is great to hear about some movies which we hadn't heard of before. It seems logical that the Europeans might be more open about portraying our kind of relationship than Hollywood. Does anyone how these movies treat the subject?

Crush came out last year. English-American co-production I think. Andie McDowell and some English actor with a way, way strange accent.

Her friends were *****es and that was very unrealistic - they wouldn't be her friends in the first place if they had those attitudes.

Fairly sympathetic but they copped out by not having a happy ending.

The odd funny moment - it's meant to be comedy.

You forgot TIM.

"Tim" is an older movie from Australia. It won Mel Gibson the Aussie equivelent of the Oscar. He is a young man in his early 20s' who is mildly retarded. He and an older woman in her 40's fall in love, work it through and are married with his parents blessing.

It is based on the book "Tim" by Colleen McCullough who wrote "The Thorn Birds." It was one of my favorites years before I met Bear. I would highly recommend both the book and the movie to anyone wanting an excuse to cuddle for the evening. It is done so gently and so beautifully that we were both in tears at the end.

Get it...you won't regret it.

Peace,
BA

But I think I saw a remake of that movie with Candace Bergen...and some unknown guy. He was a gardner and she was a college prof??? He had accidentally ruined something of hers in her garden and worked to replace it; she then found out he couldn't read and decided to help him...and well the rest they say is history. Was that the same one? Even if if were not, boy tears galore for me.....

I just rented "The Good Girl" Friday night with Jennifer Anniston. It came out a few months ago. I was so excited thinking it would be a good movie. But noooooooo, it was this dark, depressing morbid thing I wished I hadnt even watched!! Justine (Jennifer Anniston) was 30 and stuck in a dead end marriage and dead end job at a discount store. Enters Holden, the 22 year old new guy at the discount store. They have an affair, and are supposedly in love, but its never happy, and I dont think anyone smiles or laughs during the entire movie!! And the ending is even worse!!! But I wont ruin it for anyone here. So unless you want to get depressed, dont rent it!!!!! It has taken me TWO days to get back in a good mood lol.

Yes, SG, Hollywood tends to treat OW/YM movie themes in a dark, depressing manner as though the relationships are a descent into hell. The older woman is usually portrayed as either completely depraved or mentally ill. Thank goodness for "Stella"! Actually, I think that they should make an HBO series based on Ageless. They could have actresses and actors portray all of us regular members. I think that all of our stories, whether we are in a relationship or looking for one, would be fascinating topics. Wouldn't that be cool?

BA, I read "Tim" and also saw the movie. Both were great! Mel was superb. It is an amazing love story which must have been an eye opener in its day.

There is also Tea & Sympathy with Deborah Kerr, which I saw in high school somoe eyars back. That awakened me to the thought that it might eb a wonderful experience. But at the time I thought it was still a "taboo" relationship.

And there is also BIG with Tom Hanks. He is just a kid and gets the body of a young man by accident and one of the female marketing directors of a toy company falls for him because he is so much more fun than her same age bf. And he is so refreshingly honest. (He got a job there to support himself since his Mom no longer knew who he was).

Although they both come to love each other, the boy knows he must go back to being a boy. Eventually he finds the way. It is sad at the end when she has to believe him that he is a boy in a man's body. I remember crying watching it because my younger bf was with me and he was soon to go back home to Poland after a year with me. I knew how she must feel watching him leave to finish what he needed to do in order to mature.
