Over the weekend I boarded my great dane in a new facility. The place I normally take her is just really far to drive, so I thought I would try a new place. When I picked her up sunday she didnt look so good. All of her elbows were red and irritated, granted they have always been a little pink in color just because of her weight on them, but never that bad. When I got her home I noticed a large(a little smaller than a baseball) knot on her foreleg. At first I thought it was the joint but looking at it this morning I think it is probably on the long bone. I am taking her in this morning to have it looked at. I gave it a couple of days to see if the swelling would go down. She limps lightly but seems okay?
Anyways the question is that this happened while she was in their care. I didnt see it when I picked her up and I called and left a really nasty message when I got home(because of course they didn't answer the phone!) about it. I recieved a call the next day and they say they will probably pay for the exam but nothing else? Huh? I think they are responsible. What would you do? Luckily I have pet insurance so I can file a claim but this could cost me some serious money.

Hmmmm, see what the vet says and if they suspect abuse or neglect I'd take action.

Oh my goodness!!!! That's terrible. Poor thing.:( I hope they didn't do something to your doggie. I can't wait to hear what the vet has to say.

Well the news is worse than I could have ever imagined. The inflammation is from the bone. She could have a small fracture but the xrays showed bone cancer(osteosarcoma). I am devastated. I know this is the second leading killer of great danes. I spreads very rapidly. She is not a good candidate for amputation because she has weak hips and past TPLO surgery.

I know many of you have lost pets and I have too but this is different. She was never my dog, never my pet. She was a 150lbs of love and caring. A pain in the *** at times and a heavy lap dog. Never had an aggressive bone in her body and was always my friend. She helped me through some tough times.

I don't know how to handle this. Pray for me and my sweet girl will you?

Nibbles, I don't think there's anything I can say that could help ease the pain....but I understand what you are going through.

My old girl was diagnosed with an inoperable liver tumor - we've been lucky though as it seems ok for the time being. My thoughts will be with you and your girl. I'm so so sorry.

PM me if you need to vent or need a shoulder to cry on.
