Hi Everyone!
Since we've been talking about music, and with Valentine's Day not too far off, I want to talk about the greatest love songs. What are your picks? Here are mine:
"Breathe" by Faith Hill. There's no denying the intimacy between these two lovers. Sure, Faith uses lyrics that reflect a physical intimacy, but she relates it to emotions as well. Certainly, it's one of the sexiest songs ever.
"From This Moment On" by Shania Twain. Shows the committment that one partner has for another. Very deep, very passionate, very loving. There's no denying the genuinity that Shania has when she sings this ballad.
"Just The Way You Are" by Billy Joel. Billy humbles himself by saying that he's simple man who "don't want clever conversation." The lover doesn't have to prove herself, because she's fine enough already. The purest love is just letting your lover be his/herself, and then the magic glows and the love warms.
"Take My Breath Away" by Berlin (from Top Gun). I'm not sure whether or not to consider this song. I'm mixed as to whether this is a love song or a lust song. It's just the way that lead singer Terri Nunn sings the lyrics, which are seductive enough, to make it seem like she's lusting for her partner's body instead of it being true love. Comments?

- "The Dance" by Garth Brooks

Nessa 01-13-2003, 03:37 PM Heard someone on the radio this morning meld Elton John and Tim McGraw's versions of Tiny Dancer... I cried.
other songs:
Your Song (Elton John)
every woman by Garth Brooks (my fav lines "cause she'll rage just like a river , then she'll beg you to forgive her and she's ever lover that ever known and she's every lover that I've Never known)
today's love songs however feature heartbreak so I will just kind of wander off....
if i think too hard i will cry....
Polly 01-13-2003, 03:46 PM This'll be a challenge, but think back to the '80's hair bands. There was a band called "Steel Heart". They had a song called, "Never Let You Go". It's the most beautiful song ever written, and the singer kicks everybody's ***, male or female! It's going to be the song Robin and I dance to at our wedding.
tonyklo 01-13-2003, 03:47 PM Seals and Crofts - Summer Breeze is the best song IMO.
Dan_Shues 01-13-2003, 06:06 PM Ohhhh...let's see here...
"Unchained Melody" by The Rightous Brothers
"(You're My) Soul and Inspiration" by The Rightous Brothers
"You Belong to Me" by the Duprees
"Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera
"All I Ask of You" from The Phantom of the Opera
"My Only Love" by the Statler Brothers

Ellyn 01-13-2003, 11:21 PM Hiya everyone!
What a great thought! Our favorite songs are:
Still in Love by Jim Brickman...it has a special meaning to Jason and I after a tough time...and
Valentine by Jim Brickman...:) What can I say...we're sappy. :D
On a similar note, I wanted to share this poem which is my favorite since I found my wonderful younger man:
At Last (Elizabeth Akers Allen)
At last, when all the summer shine
That warmed life's early hours is past,
Your loving fingers seek for mine
And hold them close-at last-at last!
Not oft the robin comes to build
Its nest upon the leafless bough
By autumn robbed, by winter chilled,-
But you, dear heart, you love me now.
Though there are shadows on my brow
And furrows on my cheek, in truth,-
The marks where Time's remorseless plough
Broke up the blooming sward of Youth,-
Though fled is every girlish grace
Might win or hold a lover's vow,
Despite my sad and faded face,
And darkened heart, you love me now!
I count no more my wasted tears;
They left no echo of their fall;
I mourn no more my lonesome years;
This blessed hour atones for all.
I fear not all that Time or Fate
May bring to burden heart or brow,-
Strong in the love that came so late,
Our souls shall keep it always now!
Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season,
Ellyn & Jason

SnowPrincess 01-15-2003, 10:46 PM "Picture"
[Kid Rock]
Livin' my life in a slow hell
Different girl every night at the hotel
I aint seen the sun shine in 3 damn days
Been fuelin' up on cocaine and whisky
Wish I had a good girl to miss me
Lord I wonder if I'll ever change my ways
I put your picture away
Sat down and cried the day
I can't look at you, when I'm lyin' next to her
I put your picture away, sat down and cried today
I can't look at you when I'm lyin' next to her
[Sheryl Crow]
I called you last night in the hotel
Everyone knows but they wont tell
But their half hearted smiles tell me
Somethin' just ain't right
I been waitin' on you for a long time
Fuelin' up on heartaches and cheap wine
I ain't heard from you in 3 damn nights
I put your picture away
I wonder where you been
I can't look at you while I'm lyin' next to him
I put your picture away
I wonder where you been
I can't look at you while I'm lyin' next to him
I saw ya yesterday with an old friend
[Kid Rock]
It was the same ole same "how have you been"
[Both]
Since you been gone my worlds been dark & grey
[Kid Rock]
You reminded me of brighter days
[Sheryl Crow]
I hoped you were comin' home to stay
I was heading to church
[Kid Rock]
I was off to drink you away
[Both]
I thought about you for a long time
Can't seem to get you off my mind
I can't understand why we're living life this way
I found your picture today
I swear I'll change my ways
I just called to say I want you to come back home
I found your picture today
I swear I'll change my ways
I just called to say I want you to come back home
I just called to say, I love you come back home
Dan_Shues 01-15-2003, 11:00 PM Just a few more from myself...including different kinds of love...
I love my mother and one song that really hits home is "The Baby" by Blake Shelton
I love my father....and one song that hits home is, "A Love without End, Amen" by George Strait.
There is a guy that I love just like a brother....for that, "He Aint Heavy, He's my Brother" by The Hollies...
As for romance?
"Never Ending Song of Love" by a myriad of people *LOL*
"Austin" by Blake Shelton
"If it Don't Work Out" by The Buckinghams
"Inside Out" by Trisha Yearwood and Don Henley
"Last Date" by Floyd Cramer (beautiful instrumental piece)
"When You Lie Next to Me" by Kelly Coffey

Nessa 01-16-2003, 09:11 AM Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black "when I said I do" saw the video this morning... oh my gawd...
"when I said I do, I meant that I will,
till the end of all time
be faithful and true
devoted to you
that's what I had in mind
when I said I do"
and of course the video is incredibly powerful because they are married.
this really is a great thread
Dabrake 01-16-2003, 11:11 AM Yes Nessa!
That is a beautiful one.
I don't know if it has been mentioned on here yet but one that is close to my heart because it was one I chose for my husband's funeral is: One More Day by Diamond Rio. Don't know that that would be a "love" song....but it's just good.
Dabrake
HotCaramel 01-16-2003, 06:14 PM I totally left out three of my favorite songs of all time.
Chicago's Beginnings
Chicago's Color My World

Great Date Band
www.fruvous.com
Songs are satarical but sometimes touching... just heard this one:
I'll hold you if you feel you'll fall
I'll hold your hand if you just need a friend
I'll hold the line so you can call
I'll hold the feelings you don't want to end
You know that it's true
When I hold you
There'll be no secrets
I believe it
I'll hold your tears if you must cry
I'll hold your breath if that won't make you blue
I'll hold the truth if you must lie
I'll hold off choice till you know what to do
You know that it's true
When I hold you
There are no secrets
I believe it
So I will hold on
And if that's not what you're used to
Then I may refuse to
Hold off
if maybe that's not what you're used to
How can I refuse you?
I'll hold the train till you get on (you get on)
I'll hold the mirror so you can fix your hair
I'll hold the pain till it is gone (pain is gone)
I'll hold my ground when people stop and stare
You know that it's true
When I've held you
There are no secrets
You must believe it
I'll hold the beating of my heart
I'll hold my breath if you will tell me to
I'll hold the hope that we won't part (we won't part)
and I'll hold off death so I can live with you
You knew it was true
When I held you
There were no secrets
I believed it
So I will hold on
And if that's not what you're used to
Then I may refuse to
Hold off
maybe that's not what you're used to
How can I refuse you?
So I will hold on
And if that's not what you're used to
Then I may refuse to
Hold off
And maybe that's not what you're used to
How can I refuse you?
Telimena 01-17-2003, 10:49 PM when most of our YM friends were already familiar with breasts (but only their mammies') Mr. Leonard Cohen was very popular in Poland, and his only one concert in Warsaw drawn crowd from all over the country. The hit of that time was one of his ballads:
Dance Me To The End Of Love
"Dance me to your beauty
with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic
till I'm gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch
and be my homeward dove
Dance me to the end of love
...
...
Dance me to the children
who are asking to be born
Dance me through the curtains
that our kisses have outworn
Raise a tent of shelter now
though every thread is torn
Dance me to the end of love."
I think, ladies, the great guy was described in another of Cohen's ballads:
I'm Your Man
" If you want a lover
I'll do anything you ask me to
If you want another kind of love
I'll wear a mask for you
If you want a partner
take my hand, or
If you want to strike me
Down in anger
Here I stand
I'm your man."
Another oldie: Stay With Me - by Vaya Con Dios, who are not Latin, but Belgic band.
Then immortal French singers: Charles Aznavour and Edith Piaf. Her song "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien" (No, I don't regret anything) is not really a love song, but definitely might awake deep emotions.. at least works for me..
Have a great weekend,
Tel
Nessa 01-18-2003, 06:31 AM thought of another one:
The theme from the movie "AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN' Love Lifts us up where we belong" Jennifer Warrens and one of the Rightous Brothers I THINK did it.
On the other hand... a rock and roll lust song I heard the other day (cover version) Not a love song by any stretch of the imagination but dang that line about Kockin's me out with those American thighs cracks me up. I'm not sure what American thighs are but I know there are lots of men out there that go for 'thick thighs'. LOL
You Shook Me All Night Long
She was a fast machine
She kept her motor clean
She was the best damn woman I had ever seen
She had the sightless eyes
Telling me no lies
Knockin' me out with those American thighs
Taking more than her share
Had me fighting for air
She told me to come but I was already there
'Cause the walls start shaking
The earth was quaking
My mind was aching
And we were making it and you -
Shook me all night long
Working double time
On the seduction line
She was one of a kind, she's just mine all mine
She wanted no applause
Just another course
Made a meal out of me and came back for more
Had to cool me down
To take another round
Now I'm back in the ring to take another swing
'Cause the walls were shaking
The earth was quaking
My mind was aching
And we were making it and you -
Shook me all night long
Polly 01-18-2003, 07:23 PM Ding! Ding! Ding! Julie, the song is "I Know I Love You" (isn't it)?
(chorus)
I don't know much
But I know I love you
And that could be all there is to know
I saw Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville perform it live on SNL. She has an impeccable voice!
SherwoodSpirit 01-18-2003, 07:45 PM The song I think of as "our song" is Drive by Incubus. It's about letting go of fear. When I was driving to meet my s/o for the first time in person, just as I entered the city he lives in, Drive came on the radio. I was such a basket case of nerves at that point I had nearly turned around and gone back home (7 hour drive!) but I listened to Drive and decided not to make a decision about my relationship that was based in fear. It was the right choice! :)
But my all time favorite love song is The Rain Song by Led Zeppelin:
It is the springtime of my loving,
The second season I am to know.
You are the sunlight in my growing,
So little warmth I felt before.
It isn't hard to feel me glowing,
I watched the fire that grew so low.
It is the summer of my smiles,
Flee from me, keepers of the gloom.
Speak to me only with your eyes,
It is to you I give this tune.
Ain't so hard to recognize,
These things are clear to all from time to time.
I felt the coldness of my winter,
I never thought you would ever go.
I cursed the gloom that set upon us,
But I know that I love you so.
These are the seasons of emotion,
And like the winds, they rise and fall.
This is the wonder of devotion,
I see the torch we all must hold.
This is the mystery of the quotient,
Upon us all a little rain must fall.
Does anyone else here like "Star Wars"? For those of you who've seen "Attack of the Clones," what did you think of the love theme for Anakin and Padme?
I thought it was very moving...stirring and haunting. It was a forbidden love that the music expressed very well, and forshadowed the tragedy that will come...
Polly 01-20-2003, 09:14 PM ZEP RULES!!!
KilliansDrinker 01-20-2003, 10:30 PM Zep is the best
Another good love song by them would "All my love" or " Whole lotta Love", would it not?
ultra 01-21-2003, 05:26 PM U2......................One
Depeche Mode..............Somebody
Cranberries...........No need to argue
islander 01-25-2003, 05:49 PM Even though I'm a YM I like the oldies music... come to think of it, I like everything older! That's why I'm here!
Some of my favorites:
Cara Mia -- Jay and the Americans
Tonight -- Jay and the Americans
Have I the Right?-- Honeycombs
Swayin' to the Music -- Johnny Rivers
My Pledge of Love -- Joe Jeffrey Group
I Only Want to Be with You -- Dusty Springfield
Beautiful Sunday -- Daniel Boone
Without You -- Harry Nillson
I Can Hear Music -- The Beach Boys
The Sweetest Thing -- Juice Newton
and "our song":
I'll Never Find Another You -- The Seekers
One more.. (a contemorary one...)
Let's Make Love (All Night Long) -- Faith Hill & Tim McGraw
islander 01-25-2003, 05:56 PM Oh yeah... one more from someone who can relate to us :)
Diana - Paul Anka
I'm so young and you're so old, this my darling I've been told.
I don't care just what they say, cause forever I will pray,
You and I will be as free,
as the birds up in the trees,
Oh, please, stay by me, Diana.
GuyInLA 02-06-2003, 01:59 AM Sorry to come late to this party, but I only just registered. Some great songs have been listed so far. It looks like bigmark and southrngal have the closest to my tastes.
"Faithfully":Journey (Very good call mark)
"Patiently":Journey
"Babe":Styx
"I Must Be Dreaming":Giuffria
"Girl":Giuffria
"You Make Me Crazy":Sammy Hagar
"Forever":Kiss
"It Might Be You":Stephen Bishop (It's the love theme from Tootsie)
For those who haven't heard these songs, I highly recommend "Patiently", "Faithfully", and "It Might Be You". The others are great, too, but those three are musts.
There's another oldies song, I think it's called "Theme From A Summer Place." It's an instrumental song, but it's very enchanting and pleasant to listen to. Maybe someone can help me out on the title and the artist.
We've got a great thread here!
GuyInLA 02-06-2003, 09:05 AM That's a great instrumetnal. I believe you got the name right. It was done by Percy Faith & His Orchestra. At least that's what I think the advertisement for that Time-Life instrumentals CD said.
Savannah 02-06-2003, 04:59 PM Julianne, here's another gal who would have chosen Zeppelin's "Thank You" for a wedding song! Don't think I'll have a wedding, considering I eloped the first time around -- can I have an Un-wedding, and play it?
DJ Savannah's Picks:
"Breathe" by Moist
"The Flame" by Cheap Trick
"How You Gonna See Me Now?" by Alice Cooper
"Alone" by Heart
"Wicked Game" by Chris Isaak
"Love Walked In" by Thunder
"In Trance" by Scorpions
"Try" by Blue Rodeo
"I Drove All Night" by Roy Orbsion
"The One I Love" by R.E.M.
"Hanging By a Moment" by Lifehouse
and an unlikely pick for a metal fan, but it's from the Sweet November soundtrack:
"Only Time" by Enya
Thanks for adding some info about the "Summer Place" theme, GuyInLA.
I want to know what you all think about the song "Take My Breath Away" (from the movie "Top Gun"). Do you all think it's a good love song, or is it a lust song? Sometimes I think it sounds pretty lusty, at least based on the way it's being sung. Like it's more about desire than true love. Does anyone agree or disagree?
CaptainWankhard 02-12-2003, 03:48 PM Save all your love - Great White
If I close my eyes forever - Lita and Ozzy (weird love song in a way)
Sade.

moodyblue 02-12-2003, 09:41 PM Fave love song of 2002...
By Van morrison
"Steal My Heart Away"
I can hear the sound of violins
I can hear the piper play
And every time the song begins
You just steal my heart away
The journey's longer than
I thought my love
There's lots of things
Get in the way
But every time I think of you
You just steal my heart away
Just like a morning
In May like this
See the heather on the hill
There's a place way up
The mountainside
Where the world
Keeps standing still
Just like the sunshine after rain
I'll come
To be with you will save the day
'Cos I know
When I'm with you again
You just steal my heart away
Just like a morning
In May like this
We see the heather on the hill
There's a place up on
The mountainside
Where the world is
Standing still
Just like the sunshine after rain I'll come
To be with you will save the day 'cos I know
When I'm with you again
You just steal my heart away
'Cos I know
