Bodhi Tree 01-01-2003, 12:33 AM Thanks for all the advice. As I said, I blow-dryed it and it looks fine, but it's certainly damaged.
LOL Sheila, I was planning on visiting my viking in Amsterdam soon. Can you just see me with my hair wrapped around my head and a scarf over the whole ensemble ?
"oh darling, sorry, I think one of my pins bruised your eye"
ROFLAO !!!
Anyways, I'll follow your advice, mayonaise sounds better than dragon piss :D
I'll NEVER mess around with my hair again !
Bodhi Tree 07-23-2006, 06:51 PM Officilally, I have long, curly hair, lots of it. But I like it straight, don't ask why, we are never happy with what we have.
So, tired of blow-drying it to get it straight, I tried a cream which is supposed to straighten it for a while.
I put it on and went back to work and totally forgot about it.Then I realised the time that it had been on  .......
wash...
wash....
now I have velcro on my head
What am I supposed to do?
Any miracle cures?
Austrich poo, cobra spit, dragon piss, cherries of Siberia ???
I'll use anything that you'll recommend.
HELP !!!!!!!:o
teddikat 07-23-2006, 07:13 PM OH NO!!!
sounds like a trip to a professional hair repairer is in order....
Good luck to you..
Peachy 07-23-2006, 08:30 PM I have always had to blow dry and use a flat iron on mine too. And I have occasionally used the cream relaxers. Did the relaxer you used have lye in it?
My guess is that you need to condition, condition, condition. Try getting a hair mask (mine is really thick like a body cream) and put it on and leave it on for an hour or so. You may have to have some trimmed off the ends tho, because I suspect they are the most damaged.
For future straightening, I highly recommend the Japanese Thermal Hair Straightening. You have to have it done at a salon and it is pricey, but it is permanent and it leaves your hair silky, smooth and stick straight.
Good luck :)
MerAlove23 07-24-2006, 05:14 AM I have really curly hair... and it's natural.. I don't usually touch anything to use to straighten it...
Aline if it's that bad I would go to the hair dresser..... If it's burnt ithere may be nothing.. unless you cut it..... I would see a professional.... I wouldn't try to much crap in your hair if it's burnt ...
whiterose 07-24-2006, 05:24 AM Yikes. :( I'm sorry to hear that Aline. I don't really any suggestions. Maybe hot oil treatments? I dunno, but do let us know if you were able to find something that could help you out.
kindanice 07-24-2006, 05:49 AM Like someone suggested...it may have to be cut:eek: A professional look at it would be a wonderful idea.
Meanwhile, shampoo and put mayonnaise (a lot of it) on your rinsed and towel dried hair. Then put a plastic bag or cap over it to hold the heat in to open the cuticle layer of the hair. Wear it around the house as long as you want. Then shampoo out with 1 light cleansing. Be sure to use only cool water after the treatment to close the cuticles on the hair shaft and lock the moisture from the mayonnaise into each hair.
You can use olive oil too. But it may leave your hair greasy until a few shampoos.
Just some ideas;)
Bodhi Tree 07-24-2006, 05:59 AM Thank you for your suggestions everyone. No, I can't cut it, because without my long hair, I'll feel like a cat without whiskers.
I'll try the mayonaise cure kindanice, and I've also been using a super expensive treatment that I leave on all night.
I tried to blow-dry it and it and it looks ok, doesn't look very natural because the ends look too straight, but it's fine.
Learned my lesson; to be happy with what I have. :o
Science Goddess 07-24-2006, 09:33 AM Aww, sweetie, I'm sorry!
I'm with Teddi - go see a pro, is my suggestion. Soon.
Mayo and olive oil are good conditioners but a consultation with a pro that you trust might help.
Good luck.
Oh no, I did something similar when I was a teen. I didn't even leave it on any longer than was recommended and still fried my hair.
Since you don't want to cut it, you could try to use frizz ease, a sort of serum in a small bottle. It really does take out the frizzies and smoothes the hair, making it shinier. It won't heal the damage, just makes it look and feel less damaged. I would at least trim the ends and keep on until your hair is grown back in nice and healthy again.
Jo-Admin 07-24-2006, 10:36 AM Yikes! I had someone do that to me once with a perm!
I did trim the ends...they felt like straw. Then I used Infusium on it, which is a spray on, leave in conditioner, and some overnight treatments.
Like was said above, I don't think it really corrects the damage, but leaves it looking and feeling healthier.
sheila4pd 07-24-2006, 12:50 PM I do not think things will get any better soon. I am sorry. I once burned my hair with a perm, I tried to cut it and I looked like I had a thatched roof on my head. The best would be to keep up with the mayo and also learn different styles of hairdos like French braiding.
You could try to sleep with your hair wrapped tightly around your head, held in place by pins, with a scarf tightly over it. In order to do this, your hair must be dry and apply leave-on repair treatment for better results. If you do not know what I mean you could IM me.
Jo-Admin 07-24-2006, 01:05 PM LOL...I'm sorry Sheila, that thatched roof comment made me laugh.
I still remember the first look in the mirror after the perm....all frizzy with the split ends. I literally cried!
At least your not alone, Aline. Seems like it's happened to quite a few of us at one time or another. ((hugs))

Frizz Ease-wonderful stuff!!!

This post here looks like the first post on the thread and that it was posted in 2003, but that is an error. The site clock malfunctioned a few moments ago, so this post date/time is incorrect.
kittylane 07-24-2006, 07:16 PM funny how we want what we dont have, i use hot rollers on mine to make it look like i have waves, my hair is heavy and straight naturally, but i screw with mine also, i have highligted it and taken all the natural moisture out of it, it takes time for the the hair folicle to heal itself, for now they are fryed. use a great conditioner, dont wash every day, try to wait as long as possible and your hair will eventually soak up enough moisture that it will start to heal.
i did a perm years ago only to look like bozo, it was so sad, i had a new boyfriend at the time, i cant remember anything about him, only the dread i had to be around him with my bozo head.
we always want what we dont have. :)
Science Goddess 07-24-2006, 07:30 PM I'll NEVER mess around with my hair again !
Yeah, I've learned my lesson. I've given myself green hair, purple hair, orange hair, and really bad root touch-ups. I don't EVER color- not even to touch up the world's worst roots when I have 'em. I don't trim either. I certainly wouldn't dare perm or put any type of chemical treatment on my hair! I let the pros do it. I do environmental work - they do hair. It's a law of the universe.
I have naturally wavy hair. Not straight, not curly. I tried to keep it straight for YEARS, and finally made friends with the wave. Now I can throw product in, scrunch, and go if I want to. I color my hair on a regular basis and because the pros do it for me, I haven't had fried hair in years and years. I also don't blow dry and/or straighten on a daily basis...sometimes not even once a week. EDIT: I'm just sayin'...it's worth the money to have a talented pro do your hair.
Never thought I'd post this quote in a burnt hair thread but here goes:
Always fall in with what you're asked to accept.
My aim in life has always been to hold my own with whatever's going.
Not against; with."
--- Robert Frost
Heh...go with your hair...not against it! *laugh*
Hope it gets better soon. Mayo, olive oil, Queen Helene's Cholesterol treatment...and quit blow drying it for a while! You're going to fry it more!
