is going bald...
have an appointment with the vet next month...but anyone have any ideas whats going on? i see no parasites, but i have also read perhaps kidney failure which she has other signs of. i won't do the blood work to confirm as i see no point to it as there is nothing that can be done.
just really odd to have a somewhat bald cat...looks very odd! amazed that she has made it this long being strictly an outdoor cat.

There are some skin diseases caused by some microscopic insects (Sarcoptes scabiei) that cause baldness. It is very contagious to humans so be careful.

Good luck for baldy.

thanks for the links...
sheila, that was pretty gross reading first thing in the morning ;)

patricia and trueheart...informative links

i think kitty's loss is due to her age. i had used a topical flea treatment, and now stopped that, but the hair just keeps falling out in clumps. it does not bother her at all. there is no irratation, no redness, no excessive grooming(heck she doesn't do anything but eat a little and sleep). she appears fine...just old! i should post a picture... she is one "ugly" cat! only thing still alive that has seen dinosaurs.

So sorry to hear about your kitty, christina. My cat was 18 when she died, she had started to bald around her face and her hair got very thin. However, she appeared to be happy to the very end, eating well, but did sleep alot. So glad she did not have any serious ailments. Just keep her brushed, my kitty loved to be brushed!:)

ok... back from the vet. she is going to be treated with prednisone for 2 weeks...the vet thinks its allergies that have developed due to age, or internal disease that is causing her body to shut down. also doing a culture to make sure it is not ring worm.

she has lost a pound though...that she can not afford to lose...down to 4.7 :(

That is so impressive your kitty has been around for so long!! AND outside only??? WOW!!! She must be a street smart kitty! :p
Is she itching a lot?? Ringworm tends to make cats itch......both my cats had it awhile ago...it's not actually any kind of worm, just a skin infection. The hair usually comes out on the face/head or under belly.

no bella... she does not itch, the vet doubts its ringworm, but i wanted it ruled out given i have 2 dogs also.

yes, she learned to look both ways before crossing the street ;) she used to walk my daughters to school

peaches is now in kitty heaven...
her fur grew back, but yesterday she was having a hard time with her balance and walking...today it just got worse...so i decided to have her put down. amazes me, 20 years as an outside cat. she was a good kitty...

20 years is a darn good run for any cat, but way to short for the human that loves the cat. Sorry you had to lose her, Christina.
