I ended up taking on a second job evenings, since I've had eye surgery and can finally SEE! :) I'm now a bartender three nights a week at a watering hole I used to frequent in my younger days. It hasn't changed much. It's a nieghborhood place, a place where you can bring your kids for some burgers and fries, or meet up with some buds for happy hour. It opened in the 1920's during prohibition, during which it was a speakeasy, then became a bar/restaurant. It's called the "Budna Grill" on Galbraith Road in Cincinnati, OH, and it's named for original owners "Bud" and "Edna", who passed it on to son Kenny Schlewinsky, current owner (approaching his 80's!)
I spent many an evening here, playing pool with my friends, playing the juke box, meeting a blind date, telling the barmaid my latest life crisis, or bringing my kids in for a quick bite. People I haven't seen for 20 years are stopping in and bringing back fond memories. I don't like the late hours, but I do like the relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere and a chance to socialize. I LOVE to talk, and I LOVE people, so this is a perfect part-time job for me! I'm also very customer service-oriented. So far, I'm making great tips!
I'm a bit rusty on making specialty drinks...and some new ones have cropped up. I'll have to spring for a bar guide. Some comfortable shoes too.
Anyway, wish me luck! I'd actually like to buy this bar someday. The owner has no one to pass it on to, and wants someone who will keep it just the way it is, to take it over.
