Faith 10-25-2006, 07:45 PM It's been seven years since I last had a stay-at-home Halloween, and I'm stumped about what to give out to the Trick-or-Treaters.
My guy has never done anything for Halloween... it's not a big cult holiday in Germany like it is here in the U.S.
So he wants to try it all... carving pumpkins, dressing in costume, and scaring the bejeesus out of the kids who come to our door. :D
What are y'all giving to your Trick-or-Treaters this year?
Bella 10-25-2006, 08:32 PM My son and I have a haunted house every year. He has a huge garage, and he partitions it off into walkways. He and his wife, and David and I work for 6 weeks prior to get it done.
We have a coffin with a body inside that looks like it pushes the lid open, a witch who stirs a pot of bones and laughs, a remote control spider, big, and lots of other props. We change it some every year. They've had people asking for a couple of months, in their town, if they're having it this year.
I sit outside and do crowd control, and watch the little ones who are too scared to go through. I also have a big coffee pot of hot chocolate that I pass out. I can't dress too scary, cause I do the little kid thing.
We're Halloween geeks. We've decided we'd give up Christmas before Halloween.

LOL - that's how my husband was when he first came to the states, too. In fact, he's *still* that way.
I'll never forget the year he dressed up as Harry Potter and we went to a party that one of my employees hosted in her small town. We didn't know anybody other than our host and, after an our or so, the other party-goers informed him that, while it was a nice touch, it was time to drop the fake British accent! :D
In answer to your question, we've just come home from our first fall party -- our church does a community outreach festival in which we have "trunk or treating." We all decorate our trunks (some very, VERY elaborately!) and pass out candy.
We gave away Skittles, Snickers, and M&Ms.
kittylane 10-25-2006, 11:47 PM i do want to point out that scarying the little ones is pretty traumatic, my neighbor goes all out and has no sence in his head at that, he has a huge alligator that he pushes out from the bushes when the kids come to the door, my grandson wanted to go to his house and the idiot actually did this when he came to the door, he was like 4 years old and totally freaked out, i was not there and surprized my daughter didnt realize what was about to happen, i wanted to smack the guy upside the head, apparently he has no sence.
many of the kids that come to my house are little, this year we are going around the block and getting dressed up, its fun. i prefer the tamer side to the scary side.
whiterose 10-26-2006, 04:54 AM Kelley -- I can just picture Tim as Harry Potter. I bet he did that character well. :)
We don't have many trick or treaters in my neighborhood anymore. Most of the kids have grown up and moved on. But, my daughter, who is 13 and I think getting to be too old to go door to door, has decided that she still wants to trick or treat. And she is going to be dressed as "The Queen of the Nerds." :p
She has created an outfit that she feels exemplifies a "nerd" and in order to be the "Queen of the Nerds" she is going to wear a black cape and maybe even a tiara.
I will still be going out with her as she goes on her little journey that night. Maybe this will be her last year to trick or treat.
We will then come home, pass out candy (Snickers, Skittles, Tootsie Roll Pops) and some glow bracelets to what few trick or treaters will come by. And we'll eat up loads of candy ourselves while watching a scary movie.
Outside we'll have a jack-o-lantern, a lighted tombstone, and a ghoul that will be hanging under the porch light.
Too bad Halloween is on a school night this year. :(
MerAlove23 10-26-2006, 05:22 AM Well before I used to love going to Haunted houses......
but NOW I love to take Dennis Trick or Treating.... We are going to a Halloween Party Saturday.... and Tuesday of course trick or treating... He's going to be Bob the Builder... he loves him... it was the only hat he'd wear LOL
Kitty that was cruel..... expecially when it's the KIDS who go out and trick or treat not adults... You should be able to CHOOSE if you want to go in a haunted house or not..... My son right now is afraid of anything lifesize like Elmo dressed up or Barney dressed up LOL it's funny he loves them on TV but nobody can be dressed like them he gets scared.. (not kids adults dressed up)
Poetmom 10-26-2006, 05:58 AM We always get a couple of big huge bags of mixed, wrapped candies, so the trick or treaters get their pick, and get to take a couple of different things.
Some_Girl 10-26-2006, 10:56 AM Just stay away from those fake peanut butter things in the black and orange wrappers (you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about), and you'll be ok. I give out Dum Dums and Snickers, that way if no kids show up, I can eat them.;)

*cracking up* He was the spittin' image, Kat!
kittylane 10-28-2006, 10:21 AM i know merlove, i love the little kid trick or treat'ors. they are so cute, they could really care less about what candy you put in their basket, its so cute to see the excitment in their little faces just because they have on a costume and have rung your door.
i do enjoy the older kids also, i just think its important to remember we do have the little one's coming also.
jesique 10-28-2006, 08:38 PM We plan to have a big bowl of mixed candy....something we both enjoy so if we don't get too many kids we'll have some good stuff to eat! :D
