Hormonal Imbalance

Have any of you experienced hormonal imbalances at a relatively young age? I've been trying to figure out what is going on with my body lately, and it is the only thing I have come up with.
Symptoms: -unwanted hair..in places (facial, other, etc. ..I get rid of it but Im getting sick of it)
-oily skin (have had this since the onset of puberty but it still leads me to think)
- painful and fairly heavy menstrual cycles
I also have a fairly...feminine, figure, not obese, but just curvy. I hear this can take effect on your menstrual cycle etc.
I dunno what is going on, but Im thinking I may need a check up. Also, have any of you ever been prescribed birth control pills for such symptoms? Any other advice would be appreciated. I am frightened to get blood work done, but it may have to happen.
Thanks,
SG

Sounds like some symptoms of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, usually occurring in young overweight females. Yes, it needs to be checked out thoroughly, as it can lead to diabetes and cholesterol problems as well. Would be wise to get it done now, so that chronic or long term problems don't ensue. Best of luck.:)

Put your fear aside, take yourself by the hand, and bring yourself to get a physical! You are lucky to live in a time when "women's problems" are taken seriously and treatments are available. And if there IS something really wrong, the quicker you catch it, the better!
