Hello all, hope your New Years is going well thus far.
For those of you who don't know, I'm Canadian, and I've lived here since November of 97. I got my green card, and a while ago started the process towards getting my citizenship. Any immigrant or landed alien can tell you what joy there is in the bureaucracy of the INS, and my experience was no exception. I had my interview and civic exam in August, and they said that if 120 days had passed with no word, to contact them again. I realized last week that it had, at that point, been 152 days. Due to my daughter's green card status we were kind of under a time crunch to have everything done, so I started getting worried, and made an appointment to speak with someone at my local INS office for today.
Long story short (I know, I know too late!), I found out today that my FBI check had cleared just before xmas, and I have my swearing in ceremony next Thursday. I am really excited about this. I'm also excited about being able to retain my citizenship to Canada as well, which wasn't something that could be done when I first moved here. So I'm gonna tell everyone I'm a Canadian American. I like that:)
Anyway, this is very exciting news for me, so I just wanted to share it. Thanks for reading :)
