whiterose 08-04-2007, 07:15 PM Exactly why I said that WW was a much better plan and one I'll be returning to in the near future. I said that kimkins was only an interim plan I wanted to try. Sort of like a jumpstart. I'm feeling good. No electrolyte problems. Just had labwork drawn earlier this week in fact. Everyone needs to stop worrying. I'm not even following the plan like I'm supposed to. :tongue2:
freespirit 08-04-2007, 10:07 PM Im not worried WR.....just pointing out some health related things...the thread is called journey to a healthier lifestyle after all....I suspect it comes down to personal philosophy about these things....if you kickstart and are happy doing it that way thats all good.....for me I would rather kickstart the way I think about weight loss, which is slow and steady achieves more sustainable results. I also think it is well worth going internally and pondering some of the emotional causes of over eating and the responses we initiate when we are seek our emotional sustenance from food....health is after all emotional physical and spiritual well being
Donovan 08-05-2007, 12:27 AM It's good to get the REAL word out on diets like kimkins cause many people get caught up in the rapid weight loss only to regret the thyroid and other problems they have later as a result of crazy diets like this. Information is power.
dealsme 08-08-2007, 12:21 AM i need to lose 25kg immediately!:( My bf want to experience something with a skinny girl and i'm overweight!:( with 25kg lost, my bmi would be 19.0 just one point below normal.... i'm currently using xenical that i bought from [mod edit - URL removed] it seems great! it is said to block fat absorption in the body! if that is really true, then i'm blessed!! :):) i would be having a healthier weight + keeping bf by my side:D
freespirit 08-08-2007, 02:27 AM wow there are so many issues in that post that I am almost afraid to go there....such as why he cant accept you the way you are, why he is wanting to see someone else, why you have such low self esteem.....xenical only stops fat absorption it doesnt address any other issues
jellybean400 08-08-2007, 01:33 PM I agree with freespirit.
Losing weight should be something that you do for yourself...for your health and well-being. I am sorry that someone is making you feel so bad about yourself. It's very wrong :(
whiterose 09-01-2007, 08:46 AM My journey has been completely waylaid by my arthritis. My symptoms and lab results are worsening. So much so, that my doctor is starting me on methotrexate. I'm going to try to start a new thread on that if I can (keep getting stupid gateway errors).
At the moment, I am just feel really weak, especially in my legs. I can't even walk without my cane. It takes me several moments just to get my legs going. I am extremely limited at the moment. Maybe after the methotrexate does its job, I'll be able to get back to where I was at the beginning of the year.
My thyroid labs are better, however, in the past two weeks, I am having increasing difficulty swallowing, so I go back to my family doc on Tuesday and will ask her for a thyroid ultrasound.
So, my thread about my journey to a healthier lifestyle is now just a thread to whine about my health problems. :(
Oh, and for those of you who were so worried about the Kimkins diet, I stopped that a few weeks ago and that has nothing to do with my arthritis symptoms. I was already feeling the leg weakness long before I started kimkins. I only stopped it because I got lazy and depressed about my physical problems.
freespirit 09-01-2007, 08:49 PM WR you are allowed to feel bad about whats happening to your body. As someone who had their first back injury recently, I have never known debillitation....wow did that give me an insight into reduced mobility, depressed headspace etc......I wasnt worried BTW about the kimkim diet, only that those diets that dont address the emotional issues associated with eating and over eating seem not to be effective long term....but anyway you have other things on your mind and maybe you can just make sure you eat healthy and not worry about the diet stuff.....are you having any counselling about the feelings associated with your rheumatoid arthritis and its impact on your life?
whiterose 09-01-2007, 10:46 PM No, I really don't feel like I need counseling. Trust me, I've gone to counseling in the past during times when I felt I needed it. I just don't need it right now.
I've got good support from my family and friends. And, have the ability to work from home whenever I need to, which makes it nice because if I am feeling crappy and don't want to get moving in the morning, I could decide to just work from home since all my work is done on the computer or over the phone anyway.
But, thank you for that suggestion. If I ever need to, I'll pursue that option.
What I really need is just relief from the overwhelming fatigue and leg pain. Hopefully, this new treatment will work.
freespirit 09-02-2007, 05:17 AM Have you tried massage....not remedial, just something beautiful like a two hour aromatherapy, or a lymphatic drainage with a facial....I have one evry two weeks to rejuvenate my spirit and ward off tiredness
whiterose 09-02-2007, 07:44 AM No, but that's an excellent suggestion. Something I'll have to look into.
christina923 09-02-2007, 04:13 PM katrina.... hugs

Has your b/f expressed any discontent with your figure or weight? If you're looking to improve your health for your own benefit, then by all means, do so. But don't lose weight to keep a guy happy. If you need to lose weight to keep him on your side, then maybe he's not the guy you want on your side.

whiterose 01-17-2008, 11:53 PM Wow. I am way overdue to update my thread. I've posted updates on other threads, so I won't get into a lot of detail about what happened last fall. But, the short story is that from Sept through December, I could barely walk. I thought I was going to end up being wheelchair bound.
I was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy, but they aren't completely sure why I have it. My rheumatologist suspects it is due to my rheumatoid arthritis. His nurse practitioner thinks that when I had the torn cartilage last March, it set off a chain reaction of events in my body.
She said that rheumatoid arthritis seeks out areas of inflammation and likes to focus its attention there. So, when I tore the cartilage, of course, I had major inflammation in that leg. I ended up having to use my left leg more, which caused stress on the other knee. And they think that the RA sought out that inflammation and took advantage of it and settled right in. And while all this was going on, my rheumatoid arthritis was attacking my thyroid. So, I guess it figured, why not attack my nerves, too.
Thanks to the suggestion of the nurse practitioner to take Metanx for the neuropathy, I have seen significant improvement in the past month. Actually, in the past week or two since I increased the dose from once a day to twice.
For the first time since early last March, I can actually walk without a cane or crutches. And for the first time since last July or August, my legs don't feel quite as heavy and numb as they once did. YAY!
So, two weeks ago I started back on weight watchers and have lost 8lbs so far. I bought a recumbent bike and as soon as I assemble it, I'm going to slowly start exercising my legs to make them stronger.
I still can't believe how much all my physical ailments derailed my journey to a healthier lifestyle and I hope and pray to God that I don't experience anything like this again.
The diet is going very well. I keep loads of fresh fruits and vegetables handy. I've been cooking lots of chicken or fish. I make sure I have something to snack on every 2-3 hours so I don't get overly hungry. I'm back to drinking more water.
I'm turning 50 in April and I figure I'm way past time to drop some of this weight.
christina923 01-18-2008, 03:42 AM all good news katrina!! so glad you are feeling better...what a scare and so diplitating!
i'm ready with you to "do something" as my weight has creeped up even higher... so "lets go girls" !
whiterose 02-02-2008, 02:03 PM I am so proud of how much better I am eating lately. I am back to eating baked or grilled chicken or fish and loads of fresh veggies every day. I make sure that if I treat myself, it's something like sugar free pudding and that I only indulge once a week at most. Weight is coming off. So far so good!
christina923 02-02-2008, 03:23 PM :wtg:
great job! i'm sure it will improve the other issues going on too!
tinydancer 02-02-2008, 09:55 PM Kat, forget to look down here very often but WOW....I am so happy for you.
I've got to start cooking more often, I have Salmon in the freezer that I think I will make tomorrow for supper!
Wonder if that medication would help Shewolf too????
Blessings, TD
whiterose 02-02-2008, 11:17 PM Yes, I think it would probably help her. I sent her a PM about it a while back. I don't know, however, if it's available in the UK, but it's something she should check into.
Speaking of salmon, I made the most delicious salmon the other day. I just put some salt and pepper on it, and then a very thin layer of light mayo and drizzled it with yellow mustard. I covered it in foil and baked it. It was soooo moist and delicious. I ate it for lunch and dinner 2 days straight. :D
special K 02-05-2008, 12:28 AM Katrina!
I'm so happy to read your update and to know you are doing so much better. *HAPPY DANCE * :monkeydance::monkeydance:
And congrats on losing the weight so far and eating so healthfully!! That's wonderful. Once you get going, it's easier to keep going with it, and it sounds like you are going to reach all your goals before you hit 50.
And, girl, 50 ain't bad:bgrin2:
Hugs for great success,
Karen
whiterose 03-02-2008, 12:50 PM I'm pleased to state that I've lost 20lbs. While my intention was, and still is, to follow weightwatchers points as closely as possible, the fact is, I have mostly done this by making healthier food choices, watching portion sizes and by eating nutritious snacks between meals.
Since my wisdom teeth were removed, I've gotten a little off track. I was drinking shakes or eating soups for most of the last week, and now I'm STARVING. :D
But, I made a commitment to myself that this year I will finally reach a certain goal. And I intend to keep that promise to myself. So, back on track tomorrow.
I love weightwatchers zero points soup, by the way.
Blue Skies 03-02-2008, 01:25 PM Whiterose - Congratulations on losing 20 pounds!!! :w00t:
I love soup, too. I keep bags of frozen organic vegetables on hand to add to canned soups - such as spinach, peas, or corn. And sometimes I stir in a dollop of lowfat sour cream - it's only about 30 calories, but it adds so much flavor.
joelstrouble 03-02-2008, 01:40 PM What can I say... I'm jealous!!!
Congrats, Katrina!!!
whiterose 03-02-2008, 02:49 PM Thank you. :D
christina923 03-02-2008, 04:01 PM great job katrina!!!!
whiterose 03-02-2008, 04:38 PM Thanks Chris!
