Ageless upgraded - concerns, requests, suggestions welcome!Jo-Admin 03-06-2007, 04:31 PM Tell me one thing you really like about Ageless, that keeps you coming by, and one thing you wish we could work on to make it even better! :) Don't be too harsh!!! special K 03-06-2007, 05:14 PM What I LOVE: The people here and the collective wisdom!!!! What could be better: The amount of space allowed in those pm boxes for text!!! Drives me crazy to have to send 3-4 installments to someone just to fit all my thoughts in:mad: :) Jo-Admin 03-06-2007, 05:50 PM OMG..me too! Especially since I don't seem to be able to figure how many characters are too many until I have written some long detailed PM, and then have to figure out how to cut it up to fit into several. GoldDust 03-06-2007, 08:52 PM What I LOVE: The people here and the collective wisdom!!!! What could be better: The amount of space allowed in those pm boxes for text!!! Drives me crazy to have to send 3-4 installments to someone just to fit all my thoughts in:mad: :) I agree with special K - The people and the collective wisdom here are amazing! As helpful as my counsellor is, she hasn't had the experience of an age-gap relationship. As a result, the support and advice I receive here is invaluable to help me get over the breakup. I also agree that the limited number of characters allowed in the pm boxes is annoying. jesique 03-06-2007, 09:46 PM I love the people. I wish there was a little more drama. I loves the drama!!! :D Plus I don't like that I'm only allowed three :D's in a post. More images allowed in a post would be great!!! :D Nadine. whiterose 03-06-2007, 09:50 PM Nadine, honey, just wait around... there'll be more drama eventually. There always is. :p I am still here because I care about the people and because I still gain a lot of insight about AGRs. I agree about the PM space limitation, the smiley limitation AANNDDDD wish that we could talk Rob into changing the colors of the site. :D No offense, Rob, but it's time for a facelift. Jo-Admin 03-07-2007, 12:32 AM What?!!??!! You don't like the baby blue and baby pink??? You know, after we have this thread up a while...I'll send some ideas to Rob and we'll talk. More characters in PMs More smilies in posts More people participating on the yw/om side A facelift (still can't believe you aren't in love with the pink and blue Kat..cmon!) lol Lynn 03-07-2007, 12:52 AM Tell me one thing you really like about Ageless, that keeps you coming by, and one thing you wish we could work on to make it even better! :) Don't be too harsh!!! Well one thing I like about Ageless is knowing that the agegap couples here are good decent folk (even if only one of you visit). Talking about visiting, I lurk more than post. But I'm around, just very very busy. LADave 03-07-2007, 03:06 AM What I love about Ageless: Feeling like I know a lot of the other regulars here, even though we haven't met IRL. Meeting other members IRL. Last summer I met Dmjoy, Raven Magdalene, and Science Goddess. 2-3 years ago I met Hot Caramel (no longer here). Learning from the often in-depth knowledge that members share, particularly in Discussion. For example, I've learned quite a bit about Islam from our wonderful Amina and Naznoor. The banter and flirtation that goes on. What I'd like to change: Eliminate the restrictions on language (as distinct from the prohibition on personal attacks). Off-color language has its place, for use to humorous or emphatic effect. The "four-letter words" are to the language's full vocabulary what hot pepper is to food. Editing out coarse terms makes the language on the boards artificially "squeaky clean," IMHO. Also, the automatic screening leads to silly results. For example, there is nothing wrong with ****-a-doodle-doo (rooster call), ****-roach (icky bug), ****-tail (alcoholic mixed drink), or ****-er spaniel (small friendly dog).:) As a writer and speaker, I use vulgar terms sparingly, to particular ends. I avoid the "seven dirty words" and their relations as far as everyday use goes, but I like having them available in my linguistic toolbox. joelstrouble 03-07-2007, 05:24 AM Love: All the people that are here. Even though I haven't been here for a while, I feel that I'm always welcome back. I feel that I have gotten to know a lot of the people here well and I often think about people from Ageless when I'm not even at the computer and I always feel that I have to update Joel on whats going on with you all like you are irl friends. Could Be Better I would love it if we could have more emos and that we could use more that 3 of them in a text. I always have to go in and edit myself for using too many and it is alsways difficult to find out which one to take out and which one to leave... :o I know that a lot of images can make the pages load slowly for some people but I do think that there is an option to turn Images off for the few people that might happen to ;) whiterose 03-07-2007, 06:14 AM What?!!??!! You don't like the baby blue and baby pink??? LOL... maybe it's just me, but after working in OB/GYN for 15 years, I saw ENOUGH pink and blue. :p MerAlove23 03-07-2007, 06:27 AM Wellll lets see I love the people.. I love the support... I love what we stand for....I just love it here... What could be better? IMO I agree with the characters in emails... I don't like that I'm limited with smileys... :D jellybean400 03-07-2007, 09:20 PM As someone else said, i like the collective wisdom, and the fact that so many people will really stop and think about someone's problem before posting their answer. I like that people are so diverse, and from so many different places around the world. Other Forums i'm on dont have many people outside the US or Canada. As for what i dont like...hmmmm...maybe i'll answer that another time... But regarding something that ChiGrkGuy said, on another board i go on, every now and then an email goes out to all the members, reminding them that we exist lol. I dont know if its automatic or not...IF its not, i'm sure it would be tons of work for someone to do, but it always brings back lots of members. kittylane 03-08-2007, 06:30 AM I like the people, it became a big part of my life when Adam was gone the four years in the military, I posted so many big parts of my life and struggles. Now, he is home, when I check my email, I like to stop by, I remember many lonely nights that hours would slip by because of being wrapped up in the posts, I owe a debt to ageless for being a circle of companionship when I was lonely at night. Life is good, we both (Adam and I) get so wrapped up in getting on with life, sometimes, like this morning before he left for class, I have to remember how happy I really am and that for the first time in my life, I utterly love a man. He is such a sweet soul, currently has three job interviews for law enforcement, imagine, I am going to be married to a cop. Anyway, someone said that there is wisdom on ageless, I agree with this 100%. waterfall 03-08-2007, 06:58 AM Wonderful, well-grounded advise, and the collective wealth of experience from the members here. I like that we're from so many different places. I like learning about everyone's corner of the world. (that said I suppose I should talk about philly on that other thread down there, lol) What don't I like? I don't know!! Maybe a change of color to the background would be good. Can't think of anything else really. scott2075 03-08-2007, 08:09 PM Well, everyone pretty much covered everything! Maybe you should add a feature where you can click on a pic to enlarge it? Like the avatars. Chessaere 03-11-2007, 10:04 AM DISLIKES: it needs more cowbell, busted chat feature, that we have over 23k members and only maybe a few hundred are active (aka, purge accounts that have been inactive with 0 posts for over six months) Anyhow, this post idea above would be bad since there are many of us who read posts to keep up but we rarely post. We're here, we're just quiet people. Chessa~ yellowrose 03-11-2007, 10:38 AM Ageless gives me a sense of belonging to a community. I love the different people, from different countries even! I wish the archive, kept all the posts always. I think right now it only keeps 500. It is nice when someone posts a problem, to be able to go back and get more history. That way you can try to give them the best suggestions. :) whiterose 03-12-2007, 08:07 PM In case you haven't noticed, our site has undergone an upgrade. Thanks to the magic of our new techical administrator, Ohiosweetheart, we have lots of new features. We may also still have some kinks to iron out. If you have any suggestions, comments, or concerns, please post them here on this thread. LADave 03-12-2007, 08:23 PM What is the multi-quote feature for? I haven't tried it yet. ohiosweetheart 03-12-2007, 08:25 PM I'll be posting a thread detailing each new feature along with instructions in the next day or two. But in short, this is how it works - Say you're reading a thread and want to reply to several different posts in said thread. In the past, you'd have to quote them one at a time, thus having several different replies. NOW, however, you can multiquote - reply to several different posts in the same thread - in ONE nice, neat, tidy little post Here's how - In each post that you want to quote and reply to, click on the multi-quote button (which I'll be re-designing, btw) in each of the posts. This marks each of those posts for quoting. THEN, after you've clicked on the MQ button on every post that you want to reply to, on the last one, click the Quote button. This activates the multiquote feature. You'll then be taken to the text editor as usual, however now, you will see ALL of those quote, in one place. HERE, you can type your reply after each of the posts. I'll demonstrate this in the other thread that y'all were spamming (J/K !!). If you have any questions about this, feel free to ask. That's what I'm here for yellowrose 03-14-2007, 06:45 PM Can one still delete their own post? I don't see where that is possible anymore? ohiosweetheart 03-14-2007, 11:41 PM Can one still delete their own post? I don't see where that is possible anymore? No that is not possible anymore, unfortunately. You now have to contact a moderator to delete your post Kristin 03-15-2007, 12:55 AM I usually just hit the "New posts" button everytime I come on to the site. That results in a long list of treads. It would be nice if the "Forum" column in the new post results indicated which forum it was in, because the forums on the OM/YW side have the exact same names as OW/YM. So it would be nice if it said under "Forums" "OW/YM Relationship Support" instead of just "Relationship Support" Just a little thing for timesaving. :) ohiosweetheart 03-15-2007, 02:35 AM I usually just hit the "New posts" button everytime I come on to the site. Unfortunately, I can't. \ Jo-Admin 03-15-2007, 02:42 AM I think we could change that by..renaming the sections. For example..under OW/YM, instead of just having "relationship support" we could have OW/YM relationship support, and then that is how it would list in the new posts columns. Do y'all think that would look too strange? Amina 03-15-2007, 04:02 AM I like the new upgraded features but I find that the color of the site is still extremely strange...I feel like it's a "what to expect when you're expecting" forum or something, now with the new tan added to the mix the color choice is even more of a mystery to me... Tony_al 03-15-2007, 07:58 AM I love to chat with lie minded people what ahppened to the chat room? ohiosweetheart 03-15-2007, 08:27 AM I like the new upgraded features but I find that the color of the site is still extremely strange...I feel like it's a "what to expect when you're expecting" forum or something, now with the new tan added to the mix the color choice is even more of a mystery to me...This will be changing soon - keep watching ;) I love to chat with lie minded people what ahppened to the chat room? You're getting a new one :) kat7 03-15-2007, 08:35 AM No that is not possible anymore, unfortunately. You now have to contact a moderator to delete your post I find it disturbing that you have less control over your own words now. Hmmm. Maybe this means we all have to exercise more self restraint? Seriously, is there a rationale for taking away that function? Just curious. If you can still edit your post, why not have the ability to delete it? yellowrose 03-15-2007, 02:00 PM Is the function to delete one's own post no longer available or is it simply switched off? I agree Kat... Chatterbox 03-15-2007, 02:02 PM Uh, guys, you can't erase the fact that you posted, but you can delete the words that you posted and replace them with other words or .... geeeee..... I don't know ..... maybe ...... EMOTICONS!!!!!!!!!!! :bgrin2: :runnningaround: :runnningaround: :runnningaround: :runnningaround: If I didn't have the ability to delete/erase my initial reaction, I'd have been banned YEARS ago! :Thud: Chatterbox 03-15-2007, 02:09 PM Example of a deleted post. ohiosweetheart 03-15-2007, 02:13 PM I find it disturbing that you have less control over your own words now. Hmmm. Maybe this means we all have to exercise more self restraint? Seriously, is there a rationale for taking away that function? Just curious. If you can still edit your post, why not have the ability to delete it? Truthfully, I never really knew that members had the ability to delete their own messages. I've been using vBulletin forum software for years and it was never an option. I guess all of those forum owners had it turned off. I'll go and look, but as far as I know, that option is not a part of this version. yellowrose 03-15-2007, 02:21 PM I'll go and look, but as far as I know, that option is not a part of this version It would be very unusual for a product to remove a feature... hopefully you can switch it back on. Thanks for checking! :) yellowrose 03-15-2007, 02:23 PM If you have registered, you will be able to edit and delete your posts. Note that the administrator can disable this ability as he desires I just found this in the Vbult's FAQ, so it looks like it can be turned back on by an Administrator. YEA! Jo-Admin 03-15-2007, 02:48 PM Yes, the members were always able to delete their own posts before. Dont' fret y'all...even if that feature is not available, like Chatter said, you can always go and delete all the words out and make an empty post. Chatterbox 03-15-2007, 03:22 PM It would solve so many disagreements and problems if members could "hide" the sections they don't like from the main index. Is that possible? Alawiy 03-15-2007, 03:39 PM I find it disturbing that you have less control over your own words now. Hmmm. Maybe this means we all have to exercise more self restraint? Seriously, is there a rationale for taking away that function? Just curious. If you can still edit your post, why not have the ability to delete it? yeah.. I was thinking of deleting some posts, in fact.... What I love about the site is that people here seem to be really far from the usual superficial and boring that you are likely to see so much of everywhere else. I really feel I'm a part of a great loving, fun, funny, and intellectual community here. What I don't like: it logs me off too soon. I read a lot, and pop around to the different forums, and then when it comes time to post my thoughts, I realize I've been already automatically logged off. ohiosweetheart 03-15-2007, 05:22 PM It would be very unusual for a product to remove a feature... hopefully you can switch it back on. Thanks for checking! :) No - it's not unusual at all. There are several features from the 3.5 version that were removed from the new version, by request by hundreds of administrators. Any features that are added to, or removed from, an upgrade version, are done so by request. There's a forum on vbulletin.com where administrators/forum owners can request features to be added, removed, modified, etc. Only licensed vB owners can read it and/or post in it. I just found this in the Vbult's FAQ, so it looks like it can be turned back on by an Administrator. YEA!This is from the previous version. The customized FAQ for this forum didn't change with the upgrade. As far as I know, and I've installed nearly 100 of these since the latest upgrade, that feature is no longer there. But as I said, I will take a look asap, and see what I can find - I promise :) yeah.. I was thinking of deleting some posts, in fact.... The same settings that would log you out apply to all members, admins included. I've been in the Admin control panel and working on adjustments and tweaks for hours at a time, and have never been logged out. Check it out! http://www.agelesslove.com/index.php?page=home Faith 03-24-2007, 04:50 PM I see that the tech admin has upgraded the home page. Check it out! http://www.agelesslove.com/index.php?page=home Very nice!! Now a question about a faulty link... when I click on "Privacy Statement" way down at the bottom of any page, I don't get there. What's up with that? Faith 03-24-2007, 05:07 PM And another faulty link... On the new home page, at the lower right, there's a "Weather" link for your local weather if you enter your zip code. So I clicked on that link, scrolled down to the zip code box, entered my zip code, and then got an error message stating: "You have entered an invalid birthday." Huh...?? EDIT: Nevermind. I figured it out. You have to enter your birthdate in order to get the weather. Weird programming, but that's the way it is. :badpc: aemale05 03-24-2007, 07:45 PM [COLOR="Navy"]I really like to hear peoples views on issues, its a great place to express yourself. whiterose 03-24-2007, 08:11 PM And another faulty link... This is a great idea, but instead of posts I would make it people who have not visited the site in a year, or something. After all, there are members who come often but will not post for whatever reason. ohiosweetheart 04-06-2007, 03:12 PM Is it possible? not on a member by member basis, no it's not.
