Felix 02-12-2003, 05:25 AM Good ol' Valentine's Day isn't going to apply to me much, as my bf will be a few thousand miles away at his son's wedding, but I was wondering... It's a given that the guy is supposed to get his girl flowers or chocolates or at the very least a card. But what do girls give guys? The age-old idea of "socks" doesn't seem very romantic...
((I asked my boyfriend this... his answer is X-rated)) ;-)
Have a better one!

mbsnbcr 02-12-2003, 10:36 AM I have the same problem! Last night I approached the subject by saying how we shouldn't get eachother anything but cards. He is hurting in the money department and I couldn't think of anything for him, so I thought that woudl be easiest. BUT, he said he's getting me a card and "something small". Oh, no!! What will I get him now?? Something small.....hmmmm....
If anyone has any good ideas please share them here!
:D

ragtimegirl 02-12-2003, 02:09 PM ME AND MY B/F ARE GOING TO EXCHANGE CARDS THE WE ARE GOING TO A MOVIE THEN DINNER.
mbsnbcr 02-12-2003, 02:12 PM That's what *I* wanted to do....but he doesn't want to go out for dinner ("less expensive if he makes it") and doesn't like going to the movies! Darn it!
I will probably make him a card, and ......
:( I DON'T KNOW!!
acekay 02-12-2003, 02:36 PM hey ladies,
i know that valentine's day can be one filled with pressure to get one another the right gift to demonstrate true love for one another. it does not always have to be that way. sometimes the simplest things are always the best.
while considering what i would get for my man, my ears perked up a but in the last month, just to see the things he might want or need. i decided to get him a few cards (one sweet one, one "pour my heart out to you", and one hilarious card....... because all of those encapsulate my feelings toward him. next, i know that he loves a particular type of old candy (from boyhood), and i thought i would get it and wrap it up for him. finally, i noticed that he needed more bedsheets and some other nice touches around the house (just by observing), so i am getting him some of those items as well. i think he will appreciate and love things that are applicable...... i have noticed that men seem to be extremely practical in terms of a lot of needs and wants.
one of my girlfriends sent me this great e-mail about making March 20th "Steak and Blowjob Day" for men universally. I think many of them do not even care about what gift they receive...... but how many men would refuse steak and the other thing i mentioned....... food for thought (no pun intended).
have a good one!

sweetheart 02-12-2003, 06:17 PM I don't have a lot of money so I am going to make a giant heart shaped chocolate chip cookie for my boy. It is easy, practical and edible, all things I have found that he likes. :D
GreeneyedWoman 02-13-2003, 07:35 AM My husband is working on restoring an old Ford. So I picked up a couple of things for that. Not romantic, but he will love it! And that's what counts.
Now for the romantic part. I always buy him flowers, a card(romantic and sentimental), and chocolate. He loves chocolate!
I know I will receive a card, flowers, and jewelry. He's predictable. I always know what to expect! Sometimes though he really does surprise me. Must be why I adore him so much. :)
I would suggest something you know he wants or needs. It doesn't have to be romantic. A gift is a gift. It is the thought that counts. That is so true.
Felix 02-13-2003, 07:38 AM An update on my Valentine's situation...
My bf, as I said, is off at his kid's wedding. *But* he promises to take me out to dinner when he gets back. Still don't know what I should get him. If anything. The man has a moral objection to commercialism (i.e. cards).
Y'know, that "steak & blowjob day" doesn't sound like a bad idea.
Have a better one!

mbsnbcr 02-13-2003, 09:03 AM I too am all for steak and bj day! It would make things so much easier...
Anyway, I finally decided on a Dewalt cordless drill 14.4 amp adjustable clutch. It cost too much, but I know he wants one and I couldn't think of anything else. When in a bind, splurge!
Now I just need to get a card. I made one last year and he loved it, but I'm at a loss for inspiration today. Maybe something will come to me :)
EMCAD80 02-13-2003, 10:18 AM Felix-
the thing you've got goin' for you is time...sounds like you have a few extra days to sit down and think. Here's something I did for my ex-
I bought 365 envelopes, fun shaped scissors, construction paper, stickers and gel pens. I sat down (took a few days) and took the construction paper cut a rectangle w/ one of the shapes, put the date on the constuction paper with a gel pen and decorated the out side with stickers. Inside each envelope I put a reason why I love him, what I loved about him, or something special reguarding that day. I won't lie...I found it hard after the first 3-4 months. DON'T seal them...incase you have to go back to check for duplicates! But each day of the year he had an envelope to open! It was great!
Also, one V-Day (with my ex) I made a "love is" scrapbook:
http://www.comicspage.com/loveis/index.html (http://)
They are found in the LA times and NY times...anyway when my parents were in High School, my dad would cut them out of the paper for my mom every morning. She started a collection, then I started when I was in about Jr. High. I made copies (at work) of the ones I liked most and best described our relationship, put them in cronological order and put together a scrapbook for him.
Just a few ideas that aren't expensive and fun to make!
Oh! BTW...I also put him on a man hunt for his gift. He liked to golf, so I bought him practice wiffle balls, opened the bag and placed them through out the house. I started him at the front door and gave him a clue. He went around the house and found 12 wiffle balls and the last clue led him to his gift. It was fun!
All the best

What a great idea! 365 reasons why I love him. I think I will do that for his birthday. I have almost a month.
Love the steak and bj day too.
Lots of great ideas.......;)

This is true <cogs turning as we speak>. You have some great ideas. Hmmm... Guess I'll hit on something... I suppose since I'm a student I should write him an essay on "Why I Love You", but he'd probably send it back with queries and grammar checks ;-)
Have a better one!
