Kristin 03-19-2007, 11:40 AM OK, they've contacted me to tape a show on Wednesday about age gap relationships. His assistant says it's to be a positive show about "how age truly is just a number in these relationships. We are bringing couples on who have age differences, and how that isn't a factor in love. I read about your
stories on the forums, how you are planning an upcoming wedding. We are
interested in having you speak out about your relationship and plans
for your future. We feel like this is an important topic to address
from a lot of the misconceptions that age matters in relationships."
I think Montel is kind of a male Oprah - concerned about issues and not tabloid. Is that everyone else's impressions of his show, too?
What do you think? Should we do it?
ohiosweetheart 03-19-2007, 11:50 AM This is JMO, but I absolutely think you should do it - YES!
Montel is a very straighforward, honest, down-to-earth, caring individual. He truly cares about the people that he interviews. For the ones who come on the show in trouble, or in need, he bends over backwards to give or find them the help they need. I've seen it time and time again. He helped a cousin of mine.
This does not surprise me and I say GO FOR IT!
Kristin 03-19-2007, 11:52 AM Ugh! Unfortunately, it's in 2 days and we just can't make it, so had to decline. I hope they get some good people on there, though.
Like I told her, Jeremy said, "I just don't get why it's a big deal!"
I said, that's the point - it SHOULDN'T be a big deal!
I think I would have done it, though!
tinydancer 03-19-2007, 11:56 AM Kristen,
I don't know if you remember when my husband and I went on the Oprah show a few years ago.
Anyway, it was fun but, had we not been "solid" with who we are, it could have very easily turned ugly b/c of a few comments from the audience.
Oprah was great and we also got to know Uma Thurman and she was very supportive and kind........gave us some tips in travelling to Tibet etc...
I think that it needs to be well thought out and you need to KNOW that you and your man can handle the situation regardless of the content.
Blessings, Tinydancer
tinydancer 03-19-2007, 11:57 AM OK then.........nevermind lol.
I just got a pm too, from J.C. Cueva Associate Producer. Even if it wasn't in two days from now I don't think I could do this. I'd be so nervous. And we don't have the money, nor could Dereck get time off from work. But I always did like Montel.
What's worse is we don't have tv anymore so I'm going to miss the whole episode!
Kristin 03-19-2007, 12:10 PM OK then.........nevermind lol.
LOL...I know, going to be a short thread!
But I think she's probably contacting other people here. We should recommend some people!
Our 13 year gap seems so small that most people probably wouldn't mind - plus we don't look like we have much of a gap.
How about Catlover (22 years), Marcy (18), Bubbleee (can't remember, but I think 30+) Rob (18).
She can check out this thread:

She just told me they pay lost wages and travel.
I just have other issues that I don't want to get into, too. Double whammy.
It would have been fun, though. And I would have loved to break some stereotypes!!
Alawiy 03-19-2007, 12:16 PM Too bad you couldn't make it!
I don't get that TV channel either (and can't pay for cable right now), so I'll miss seeing it, too. I wonder if we can see it somewhere on the internet after it's aired.
I always liked Montel, too.
wvdreamer 03-19-2007, 12:16 PM I could have brought Stephy with me (22 year age gap)...Little John would have stolen the show!
Kristin 03-19-2007, 12:23 PM wvdreamer - you should do it! They'll get you in and out of New york quickly, pay for travel and lost wages.
Anyone interested, she asked that I pass on her contact info. PM me right away and I'll give your her email! Otherwise, PM her user name: munchimoo

After I posted that I thought that maybe they did take care of the expense part. But it is awful short notice.
Dereck would never do it. He's not one for the public eye, so to speak.
I hope some people from here can make it though. I'm going over to my Mom's for the day to watch this.
Kristin 03-19-2007, 12:32 PM I asked her to let us know when the show airs!
Kristin 03-19-2007, 12:34 PM Dereck would never do it. He's not one for the public eye, so to speak.
Jeremy said he had absolutely no interest, too. Plus he didn't want them digging into private issues.

You're right Kristin, it shouldn't be a big deal. But sadly enough, it is. Which is why he, and Oprah and others, are working so hard to help break the stereotyping.
They've done the same thing with BBW's. Sure, no woman should be labeled no matter what her size. But rather than always being called fat, or chubby, or whatever, some nice person gave us the BBW label. IF there has to be a label, that's the one I prefer, lol.
Jo-Admin 03-19-2007, 01:27 PM Montel is actually one of the few talk shows I like..so if anyone could go on there it would be awesome.
I don't think it will be a repeat experience like we have seen in the past with Jenny Jones or Dr. Phil.
I would expect a more positive show, like the Oprah show Tiny participated in (she looked beautiful btw!), or when Joe and Peachy went on Oprah.
How about Catlover (22 years), Marcy (18), Bubbleee (can't remember, but I think 30+) Rob (18).
Actually, sometimes I think I would like to do a show like that. I think I'd handle it well. But then I'm not sure I like being the centre of attention either.
I couldn't anyway, not right now. In a few weeks it would have been possible. :p
sheila4pd 03-19-2007, 01:57 PM I do not mind being the center of attention. :runnningaround: . My issue is that I do not think that AGRs have any age-specific advantages. (The show will talk about advantages) Why would any gap be an advantage wether cultural, racial, geographical or age?
Alawiy 03-19-2007, 02:15 PM I would have loved to go! Unfortunately, it's just bad timing and I can't get out of a commitment I have on Wednesday. I wouldn't be able to leave my kids out here by themselves anyway while I was 3,000 + miles away. Well maybe I could, but I haven't ever done that and don't feel comfortable with it.
Hmm.. "advantages" of having a YM/OW relationship.... wonder how that will be told on the show. Kristin, let us know when the show airs. I may have to go stand in a department store TV and appliance center to watch it :)
Man, I could've gotten to see Nazi!!! arrrggghhhhh.... the anguish!:faint:
Jo-Admin 03-19-2007, 02:27 PM Kristin, are you sure you can't go? I think you and Jeremy would be perfect. And it's even better than you just had your beautiful daughter, and your planning a wedding!
They said it's all expenses paid... I wish you could go.
marcy 03-19-2007, 03:03 PM We definatley can't do it. I spent all last week off work and recovering from the plague. Even if I could get the time off, which I can't, Dev would never do something like this. :(
sheila4pd 03-19-2007, 03:07 PM I got a second message from the show and I just talked to my bf and he reminded me that with his temporary residence status in Panama he needs to fill some exit request. I am glad all this has not made him mad because I would be like... "Why the heck to I need a permit to go back to my own country?".
SoraNoYume 03-19-2007, 06:17 PM I received a private email from the producer too......
If it weren't for the timing, Jerm said he'd definitely go for it. I asked him, "why?" and he said, "To educate people and let them see that we're not abnormal and that we're in love and there's nothing wrong with it."
He never ceases to amaze me........I figured, he'd say, "oh hell no"......lol
I think, that they should have a special show with all of us from Ageless.......now that show would definitely rock!
love,
sora

Well, similarly, if I was to enter the US to do it I would have to apply and pay for a form (advance parole) to allow me to leave and re-enter again.
whiterose 03-19-2007, 07:36 PM If anyone from here does go, please be sure and let us know the air date.
Belisama 03-19-2007, 07:56 PM What a shame they didn't contact us - we could have made it for a change! We're not newlyweds anymore though (isn't the two year mark when that stage supposedly ends?) so we're old news! :tongue2:
Angel 03-19-2007, 08:05 PM Marcy, just wanted to let you know I love the new avatar pic of you. Pink is your color and the hair looks great. Keep it up.
Returning hijacked thread...
:offtopic:
marcy 03-19-2007, 08:27 PM hehe thanks!!!!
Bob's babydoll 03-19-2007, 09:04 PM If anyone from here does go, please be sure and let us know the air date.
Oh yes, please do! That would be so cool! :thumbsup_still:
bubbleee 03-19-2007, 09:16 PM I may be slightly off topic here, but I get PM's from different people that are "new" here and they want to know how Phil and I met because they "admire our relationship". I received the third PM just like this today and two others over the past month or so. The person has no previous posts, either.
I get the sense that someone is looking for a story for free for lack of a better term. Anybody else have this experience?
And I think you ALL should go on Montel Williams and I'll just DVR it, lol.
Angel 03-19-2007, 09:21 PM And I think you ALL should go on Montel Williams and I'll just DVR it, lol.
Pass the popcorn and I'm staying at home watching it too. My life is reminiscence already of :jerry: that I don't need to add Montel, even if he's a great guy, to the mix. :bgrin2:
MerAlove23 03-19-2007, 10:32 PM That would be so cool if someone from here went!!!! i'd love to watch... I will hope to Tivo it when it's on!
jellybean400 03-19-2007, 11:02 PM That would be so cool if someone from here went!!!! i'd love to watch...
I agree!! I want people from here TO GO! The couples are so wonderful.
Of course, all of the people are, but i would just love to see some of the couples telling their stories. I wish some of you could go. Very exciting :wiggle:
special K 03-20-2007, 12:03 AM I got a pm from the producer too. Seriously...If we'd been given more notice (like, say, a week???) and Jake and I were already married, I'd do it. I even told him about the offer today on the phone, and he would be up for it too (if it included a trip to NYC...my favorite US city!!!!!).
I know this may seem odd to some, but I KNOW they are going to ask the typical "sex" questions they always do for op/yp relationships. I would not feel comfortable talking about that to America.... I'd have to get over that and come up with some predetermined fun-witty retort that proved the point that "YA!!! IT'S GREAT...duh....":tongue2:
Sora....I love your idea of having ALL of us who wanted to to be on the same show. That would be a PAR-TAY!!:monkeydance:
tinydancer 03-20-2007, 12:56 AM Ty Jo :)
It was a tough call for us, I do know that.
My husband was in no way thrilled about being on Oprah lol. It was getting to be on with Uma Thurman that pushed him over to the other side lol.
It was an intense thing to do but I, personally, couldn't turn my back on the experience. On a side note: One can get themselves into an awful lotta  adopting that attitude.
Any-hoo, they came here to our little burg and filmed me, NO make-up, up close and personal. Followed me on my daily dog walk, followed hubby and I on a walk through town.........ACK!!!
Flew us to Chicago, put us up in the Omni Hotel with a MASSIVE food voucher (totally awsome), went to the show and had make-up done by her team of really wonderful and talented people (Fun)
Go on the show and see the tape of yourself, NO MAKE-UP, close enough to see every last pore, larger than life, on the screen in front of you:eek:   (ours was a segment about how us women seeing our aging, possibly, more intensely b/c of a younger bf /husband)
Tried not to become too irritated with one, kind of off the wall, audience member's ideas
Got to say (mostly) what I wanted to share about our relationship, my husband actually trying to participate, and neither of us coming off as total a****.........it was kinda cool.
Six of one, etc...
Blessings, Tiny
KeLs 37 03-20-2007, 10:57 AM They are looking on both sides of the spectrum? ow/ym & om/yw? LOL- i think it would be interesting to do..me and brian have 19 years between us..and we live in Philly, which is only a hop skip and jump away..and i've always liked Montell..
Kristin 03-20-2007, 02:02 PM What a shame they didn't contact us - we could have made it for a change! We're not newlyweds anymore though (isn't the two year mark when that stage supposedly ends?) so we're old news! :tongue2:
Silly girl!! Why didn't you just PM her?? YOU should definitely have gone!! Why not contact her?
Lovaholic 03-20-2007, 02:43 PM I would just love to see anyone form here go. We need the positive exposure. Nick & I were asked to go on MTV a few months ago, but we declined. There's no way it would have been to our benefit & God knows what other couples they would have on. Montel is different. Oh please someone go!
Lovaholic
KeLs 37 03-20-2007, 02:56 PM well i ran this by Brian and he said "sure why not?" so I pm'ed munchimoo and said that we were interested if they were still looking..:D

Did I miss a thread somewhere? I didn't even see anything until this thread started! :tongue2:
Nibbles 03-21-2007, 10:54 AM Sorry guys but there is no way I would do it. I can't imagine putting myself out there on a talk show to be ridiculed. I know they SAY they are trying to promote the concept of Ageless relationships but with the stigmas out there already you are setting yourself up. JMO.
