Remember me?

I'm not sure anyone will remember me. I used to lurk a lot and post in spurts. I haven't been on in awhile.
I'm 35 now, started dating my ym when I was 32 and he was 23. We have had a lot of ups and downs over the last three years. Let's see-- ups-- we were long distance, and after 18 mos, he moved here and moved in with me and my 2 children. He's WONDERFUL with them, and my ex husband and his girlfriend and my bf and I all hang out together and spend holidays together with the kids. We've developed a great working relationship together. He has gotten a great job here, and enrolled back in school to finish his bachelors degree. He graduates this summer. I'm so proud of him. Then we are both going to start on Masters degrees. His parents love me and my dad has come to "accept" our relationship. I won't so far as to say he loves my bf, but he wants me to be happy.

Downs- my mom passed away in 05, very very suddenly and it totally rocked my world. I had no idea how much i loved her and depended on her until she was gone. I miss her so much, every single day. Through it all, my ym has been a rock. He lets me cry whenever I need to and makes me feel better.

We also had a terrible terrible car accident last May that easily could have killed us both. The car was totalled, and he had a bad head injury, but all in all, we were ok.

I think we are at a pivotal point in our relationship. We have talked about getting married for the last 2 years, but I think we are finally at a point where we are both ready. If I had to guess, I'd guess he'll buy me a ring before summer.

His family loves me very much, but I still think they are dealing with the idea that I've been married before, have 2 kids, am older than him, "took" him away from them when he moved from their town to mine, and the fact that he and I do not want more children. It's a lot for them to deal with.

Just wanted to say hello. I hope to be here more often now!

I don't know you, so can't remember you :) But it's nice to see someone come back and say how things are going. I can identify with the parents/in-laws who don't like that you "took" him away from them by his moving.

Good luck to you both on everything!!!

Hey Suzie! Of course I remember you! Glad to hear things are going so well with your ym, but very sorry for the loss of your mom. I lost my dad a few years ago and it just isn't something you ever get completely over.

Good to have you back here. :D

I forgot one more thing we've been struggling with. When he left his town, he left not only his mom, dad, 2 brothers, and niece, but also his 2 closest friends and his 3 roommates. He was so used to always having a guy to hang out with, play xbox with, or just go grab a beer with. Here, of course, he really only knows MY friends and their significant others. He likes them but says it's just not the same as having his friends independent of me. I can't imagine how hard that must be for him b/c I can't imagine leaving my best girlfriend and moving away. With him having school 3 nights a week, it leaves little time to just be "social". I've encouraged him to join an athletic team, and he'd love to, but there just never seems to be time.

I'd love for him to have a close guy friend to hang out with. It seems the older you get the harder it is to meet people like that.

Good to see you again, SuzieQ!

Maybe you'll soon be posting on the "Who here is engaged?" thread!

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. I lost my dad in September - before his granddaughter was born. We were very close. So I know how you feel. :(

sorry about your mom...it is very hard when a parent dies.

your relationship is going good! great news! in time he will have friends independent of you. sounds like you all have "settled in" nicely...

Hi! Welcome back. So sorry about your mother. My mom left at a young age and suddenly a few years back. It was very traumatic. Also sorry about the car accident too.
Glad to see you back. Thanks for bringing us up to date. Best wishes to you.:)
