Kristin 03-20-2007, 02:22 PM OK, Bubbleee said I should combine threads so anyone interested can follow along. So here are links to other wedding related threads.
I feel like venting about this whole process and instead of dragging EVERYONE through it, I'll do my own little blog here, if that's ok? LOL! I'll probably need a lot of advice, too!!

Kristin 03-20-2007, 03:38 PM OK, I have a minister (non-denominational) and a DJ (female-owned company w/ impressive rating) available for July 21st or 22nd and we are meeting with a potential site on Thursday.
It seems like it would be perfect. It's in a suburb right in the middle of the city, just off the freeway (easy to find) on a private 15 acres. There are a few halls to choose from, including an outdoor pavillion. There's the grand ballroom, the dining room (with a fireplace) and two smaller rooms that seat up to 200. They do the catering and the bar service, so three things would be checked off my list by choosing this site.
Here is my problem & I need some feedback!! Not all things are created equal and here are the choices:
1) First of all, pros & cons about Saturday vs. Sunday.
We are a bit concerned that some of his family won't come Sunday, if they have to work on Monday. But I think people make an exception for weddings - especially family. They'll probably just leave a little earlier if they have to, right?
So, how heavily should I let theat weigh on my day decision? It's more important about the day because this banquet hall gives serious discounts for a Sunday event:$400 hall rental charge WAIVED, no minimum of 100 guests (although it looks like we may be over 100 anyhow) and a free champagne toast.
2) Marry inside or out?
Pro: If we use the outdoor pavillion, we get to use it for the ceremony (and the wedding gazebo) and basically get it all to ourselves. If it rains, we have a place outside to fit everyone.
Con: They only provide a picnic style menu out there. It's a really nice picnic with a variety of choices, but picnic food nonetheless. It'd have to be Sunday because they already have a private party there Saturday.
3) Saturday wedding INSIDE.
We'd get a smaller hall (seats 200), have a $400 hall charge, 100 guest minimum. Meals run $17 per person & up. Varied food choices suited to weddings.
Pros: More guests should be able to come. Hall should be big enough.
Cons: Have to get married outside in park & gazebo not guaranteed. So we're screwed if it rains. Less choice of halls. No freebees or discounts.
4) Sunday wedding
Pros: Larger hall is available INSIDE. Big enough to have the ceremony if it rains. Outside gazebo available for ceremony. Free champagne toast, no $400 hall charge, no minimum (probably not a pro because we have 100+). More choices of other halls if we prefer.
Cons: Less people show up on Sunday??
Ladies, what would you do?????
Kristin 03-20-2007, 03:40 PM Reminder to myself - still need photographer, flowers and cake!
Anyone have good ideas for cakes? What do they serve these days? I'm not a big cake eater! Anyone see anything cool recently?
christina923 03-20-2007, 03:53 PM sunday... earlier in the day to accomodate family...
you're good to go!
ask the reception people...they propably "do" cake
eponavet 03-20-2007, 03:56 PM Sunday.....
I would just let people know there is already a wedding/party on that Saturday and leave it at that. You save money, have options based on the weather but it doesn't really come off as the primary reason for asking people to come on Sunday instead of Saturday. If people don't think they have a choice, then they don't get upset at something that couldn't really be controlled. And in some ways, they don't have a choice....there are way to many pros about Sunday and the only con is that fewer people might be able to make it. To be honest, if people want to be there, they will find a way to make it work.
marcy 03-20-2007, 04:05 PM Agreed... I'd also go with Sunday. Are you totally in love with the idea of an evening wedding/reception? If not, why not make it earlier in the day?
I had the big wedding the 2nd time around (was married as a 17 yr old the first time around so don't even ask) and we did it on a Sunday around 11 am and had a lovely lunch served. We had a traditional Jewish wedding and so Sunday was a must.
freespirit 03-20-2007, 05:53 PM lunch sunday with the outdoor wedding and options for indoors if it rains....lunch is better because everyone is able to be there.....the young, the old, the infirm lol....and then you get to chill out in the evening.....
Kristin 03-20-2007, 08:22 PM Thanks ladies. I think we are going to go for Sunday - earlier in the day.
However, what would be a good time? His family are BIG partiers. I don't want to make it so early as to be weird & then when do you serve a meal? We can do lunch or brunch menus, too.
What's done these days?? Ack!! LOL!
Maybe get married around 2 and have an early dinner - like 4:30 or 5pm? Then there would be 5-7 hours of party time after for folks, right?
How does that sound??
kindanice 03-20-2007, 08:59 PM Sunday early in the day sounds good to me. Early dinner-then party! Sounds like you have a great plan. Wow! How exciting!:yay:
waterfall 03-20-2007, 09:01 PM you could even go with a 4pm dinner, then those who need to leave earlier still have some party time?
wow, only $400 for a hall, and $17/person for a meal?! Here I'm looking at the cheapest venue (just for vows) at $500 and the catering looks to be 45-70/person!!!! Even with 40 guests (if we're lucky, prob. less) that's expensive!
One of the most fun weddings I've been to was in Fairmount Park, here, and it was proper for the ceremony, then lots of people changed around and there was volleyball, baseball, a magician for kids, music, and just an all around really good time, all before sundown. Great idea!
freespirit 03-20-2007, 09:09 PM That ....
volleyball, baseball, a magician for kids, music, and just an all around really good time
is a great idea!!!
You could start proceedings at 1pm and then have the party straight after.....people could go home in the afternoon and those that wanted could party on.....
wow waterfall that would have been a wedding to remember!!! My friends got married in a big park here in the city overlooking the harbour...it was a sunday afternoon affair, bride and groom were Goths, bridesmaids wore black LOL, and all the kids were running down to the water edge and feeding the birds...it was fun....
just make it YOUR day Kristin...its all about YOU...oh yeah and Jeremy...be a bride
Faith47 03-20-2007, 09:47 PM I would go for saturday. As you said on monday most people work so it might makes you feel and others like to rush things through. Its YOUR day. So enjoy it. Dont rush through it
I like the outdoor idea. Only thing is if it rains. So, maybe you can have your wedding outdoor if your prefer but have a tent or a place to go inside to eat and dance just in case.
I'm very happy for you. Way to go Kristin :jiggy:
jesique 03-20-2007, 10:16 PM I'd go with Sunday...the people who love you and who really count are going to make every best effort to be there...regardless of if you have it on Sunday or Sat.
You're definietly going to get a better deal if you go on Sunday.
I know I've spent a lot of time on www.theknot.com looking at pics of cakes and decorations and dresses and such...I'm sure there are other wedding related websites also if that one doesn't works. :D That will give you a good idea on what other people are doing for ideas.
But I say take what you want and leave the rest....it's your wedding!!! :D
Nadine.
Faith47 03-20-2007, 10:20 PM I still believe saturday is better  :tongue2:
christina923 03-21-2007, 04:01 AM kristin... i think you can have it even earlier then that. ceremony at 11, meal at 12/1 or whenever pictures/introductions are done, then party.
i think your meal at 5, then 5 hours of partying is bringing it to late in the evening for the monday morning workers.
its not, or wasn't, uncommon to have a late morning wedding...
Kristin 03-21-2007, 11:20 AM I think I'm leaning towards that, too, Christina.
I think Sunday is the winner - like a few said, there's just more pro's than cons for Sunday and more cons for Saturday. But we'll see after getting more info tomorrow!
Kristin 03-21-2007, 11:43 AM wow, only $400 for a hall, and $17/person for a meal?! Here I'm looking at the cheapest venue (just for vows) at $500 and the catering looks to be 45-70/person!!!! Even with 40 guests (if we're lucky, prob. less) that's expensive!
Wow, $45-70? The most expensive on this caterer's menu was Pesto Crusted Salmon & Steer Napoleon, Served with Mediterranean pasta and sautéed zucchini for $28.95.
I'm sure if we went to some fancy hotel it'd be more. Maybe they can be cheaper because they are also a restaurant and own all the facilities?
I don't know.
Kristin 03-22-2007, 04:27 PM The wedding day, place and time is set!!! OMG!!! It's so exciting and REAL now, LOL!
As of 3:30 on Sunday, July 22nd, I'll be Mrs. Kristin Marsh! :D
We decided on Sunday. The wedding will be at 3:30pm. Photo ops from 4 -5pm. Dinner at 5pm. Dinner will be a semi-sit down. Salad & bread will be table service, then people go up to the buffet. That way people have something to do while waiting their turn at the buffet.
We're thinking chicken with cranberry stuffing, chef carved angus beef, pasta primavera (for vegetarians), rice pilaf, garlic mashed potatoes, green bean almondine and 2 pasta salads. The staff will serve coffee and tea, cut and serve the wedding cake. (I still need to find that and a florist.)
We decided on the "semi sit down" because Jeremy was concerned about long buffet lines. The manager was so helpful to suggest these things we never thought of!
After that, music & dancing. Open bar until the money runs out. (Cool option - they let us set a maximum amount that covers all drinks. When it runs out, it just goes to cash bar.) About 8/8:30pm hors d'oeuvres/snack trays will be served. More dancing & partying until midnight!
We think we are going to block off some hotel rooms (luckily, 4 hotels are only blocks away) for our out-of town guests.
When we were there today, they had long streams of sheer, white fabric draped from the ceiling that had white lights in them. And the chandeliers were draped with fabric as well. It looked lovely and was only $40 more so we are doing that too.
I called and booked the minister & the DJ and I are playing phone tag - but things are moving along so quickly!!
Oh, and our guest list has balooned to 125!
Here is the ballroom:

kindanice 03-22-2007, 04:43 PM Oh my gosh!!!! How exciting!!! The ballroom looks elegant. Ya'll are going to have a wonderful wedding.:D
freespirit 03-22-2007, 05:29 PM Gawd its quite an industry the bridal one isn't it....
now Kristin soon you will have to have a tantrum or two just so everyone knows who is the bride ok.....its one of those times you can legitimately lose it or be a nutter and people will understand.....
anyway it all sounds like fun and is working smoothly so is obviously meant to be!!!! way to go.....
christina923 03-22-2007, 07:07 PM all coming together beautifully!!!
Charisme 03-23-2007, 08:06 PM This is great! You did wonders is such a short time. Your hard work paid up.:bgrin2:
Kristin 03-23-2007, 11:39 PM OK, I'm thinking about going to David's Bridal tomorrow to get my dress order started. But I have a problem.
I would like to lose some weight before the wedding. Right now I wear anywhere between a 14 and 18, depending on the clothing. So I guess that averages to a 16, LOL.
Should I order a smaller size, say 12-14 and hope I make it in time? Or do I order what fits now and have it altered just before the wedding (if I manage to lose anything)? And then pray it gets back in time?
What should I do???
Faith 03-24-2007, 12:11 AM Order the size that fits and looks good on you as you are right NOW. And go ahead now and make a firm appointment for alterations two weeks before the wedding.
joelstrouble 03-24-2007, 03:41 AM The wedding day, place and time is set!!! OMG!!! It's so exciting and REAL now, LOL!
As of 3:30 on Sunday, July 22nd, I'll be Mrs. Kristin Marsh! :D
WOW... Kristin Not only do we have the same agegap but we will have the same anniversary :D Joel and I got married the 22th of July 2005 and I think it was around the same time as you guys :p
The ballroom looked very nice Kristin! You are a woman with great taste
whiterose 03-24-2007, 09:03 AM OK, I'm thinking about going to David's Bridal tomorrow to get my dress order started. But I have a problem.

Jeremy loves you just as you are. Order the size you wear now.
Kristin 03-24-2007, 01:23 PM OK, so I'll order it as I am now and get it altered if I have to.
Well, yesterday I made the deposit on the trip and bought the plane tickets - no turning back now! :)
I also ordered the wedding rings!!!:D
I'm trying to decide on jewelry. I found a gold tennis necklace (I've always wanted one) online - one on eBay and one on Jewelers Direct:
Jewelers Direct (http://www.czjewels.com/itemdetails.cfm?itemid=697&CFID=3862598&CFTOKEN=afbaf42e19d37395-97B0FD20-F37A-90C2-02BC0AB04F1B889E)
EBay Necklace (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300091557224&ssPageName=MERC_VI_RSCC_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT&refitem=300092659657&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=active_view_item&usedrule1=StoreCatToStoreCat&refwidgettype=cross_promot_widget)
The one on Jewelers Direct is real gold (not plated) and it's smaller carat weight (which I think is less obvious) but the most expensive of all of them. They are both CZ of course. If I got one of these, I'd probably wear it again. But it may just get lost or be too plain?
But then I found these two on Glitz and Eve's Addiction:
Eve's Addiction (http://www.evesaddiction.com/nlz10204.html)
Glitz (http://www.glitzs.com/detail-200ct_sapphire_diamond_necklace_engagement_holiday _gift-49.htm)
They are like tennis necklaces (only a little more over the top) and both have a pear-shaped sapphire pendant. As you remember, my engagement ring is a pear-shaped sapphire. I'm not sure if I'd wear it again after the wedding - it's really dressy and I don't dress up that much. But I love the one from Eve's Addiction. It's in sterling silver, no plating. It looks a little less gaudy than the other sapphire one.
Also, it seems that my color scheme will be light blue and lavendar or light purple. I could add touches of sapphire blue to the mix - like in the flower ribbons. My flowers are going to incorporate purple or blue irises somehow, because they are my favorite flower. I'd like Irises and white flowers like this, with blue and purple or royal blue ribbons:
http://www.flora2000.com/common/images/ProdImg300/5128.jpg
Anyhow, I need opinions on which necklace would look best with my dress!
Kristin 03-24-2007, 01:28 PM Oooo...maybe royal purple iris with roses. Instead of the little pink flowers, little baby blue flowers.
Baby blue is Jeremy's favorite color and I think his tie will be that color. I was thinking of adding a baby blue ribbon sash to my dress, too.
http://bouquetgarden.com/bgbouquetlaurabridesiris.jpg
Kristin 03-24-2007, 01:32 PM I found one with my colors! (It's meant to be for a new baby boy, but oh well, LOL!)
http://www.beyondblossoms.com/images/NewBaby%20wo%20Rest_zoom%20copy.jpg
Kristin 03-24-2007, 01:55 PM Here's a couple of pretty ones. Obviously, the hot pink freesia would be changed to baby blue:
http://www.blumen.com/images/bouquet%20with%20iris%20and%20roses.jpg
http://www.blumen.com/images/bouquet%202%20with%20iris%20and%20roses.JPG
christina923 03-24-2007, 05:50 PM i love!!!! the eve's necklace...BUT, for some reason i think the sapphire will distract, let your rings make the statement of the day...i would go safe and get the tennis style
and the baby boys bouquet!
freespirit 03-24-2007, 07:22 PM Kristin I agree with Christina, those necklaces will be too much with yr dress...the dress is lovely and lacey so you really need something very simple to balance the neckline on the dress....a lovely silver chain or a strand of small pearls....can you borrow something from a grandma or mum that could be your something borrowed.....
your rings are lovely and the ceremony is about their exchange.....so I would focus on them....and you as the bride of course!!!
the bouquet I like is the last one you posted with the roses and the blue flowers...very old world but discreet.....
kindanice 03-24-2007, 08:51 PM I like the last bouquet choice. And if you are choosing between the 4 necklaces, I like either of the first two. But, I think a simple necklace will be great so it won't distract from your beautiful gown and your wedding set.
Kristin 03-24-2007, 11:18 PM Heehee...kindred souls ya'll are. After talking to Jeremy, I'd decided on the tennis necklace, LOL!
My mom liked the simpler one with the sapphire until she saw me in the dress and also decided something more simple was in order. But that price tag, yikes! Well, I look at a good tennis necklace like good pearls - it's classic enough that I'll wear it again. And real gold will hold up. I doubt I'd get any more use out of the sapphire one.
OMG you guys!! The dress is EVERYTHING I'd hoped for!! My mom took pictures of me trying it on - I'll have to post them as soon as I can upload them. Other brides there were actually commenting on how beautiful it was. I was definitely the oldest bride-to-be, but not the chubbiest - which made me feel a lot less self-conscious, LOL! I'm a lot thicker than the last time I walked down the aisle, but this dress actually made me look like I have a waist again, LOL! At least it turned out I only needed a 14w, LOL! :p
Kristin 03-24-2007, 11:21 PM Oh, and once I saw the beautiful train, I was sunk - it was gorgeous! So, I'm keeping the train on it, too. :D
christina923 03-25-2007, 08:10 AM i can't wait to see the pictures!!!
and don't even worry about the weight...come join us down in health chat, and whatever the name of the thread is, give it your best shot with the rest of us who have "a few to lose."
you will be stunning on your wedding day!!!
whiterose 03-25-2007, 09:20 AM I found one with my colors! (It's meant to be for a new baby boy, but oh well, LOL!)
http://www.beyondblossoms.com/images/NewBaby%20wo%20Rest_zoom%20copy.jpg
I like this one the best of all the bouquets you've posted. I like the slight touch of green in it with the purple.
Kristin 03-26-2007, 01:41 AM OK, please don't pay attention to my hair! It was soooo windy that day, it's a mess! And the dress obviously needs to be pressed yet.
They also need to move the front fastener up a little bit. I'm shorter than the dress model, LOL! That's why it is more open at the top (not to mention my big bust, LOL!) I think I'll have them put in a double fastener - just add another one higher up under the bust. And it needs to be hemmed and the upper arms let out a smidge.

And ur cowboy is a HOTTIE! And I mean...smokin':wink2:...hehe
You are such a great looking couple.
thesedays 03-27-2007, 10:51 AM Kristin - everything is just beautiful.
I have a question about your wedding rings. Did you find those on line? I have a friend that is looking for celtic / irish but every website she's looked at doesn't have near the beauty / elegance as the rings you posted here.
Mind if I tell her where to look?
Charisme 03-29-2007, 09:22 AM Kristin you look like a princess. The dress looks even bettter on you. You make a cute couple. The funniest thing is that if I didn't know there is 13 years difference between you and your guy I wouldn't have never noticed it.

You look great in the pics!!! I think you shouldn't wear any necklace :D I love a bare neck in wedding dresses.. Just my opinion
kittylane 03-29-2007, 07:48 PM I am not being polite but I must tell you that the dress is just gorgeous.
You say you are a 14? You look like an 8! with the hair and your face, I must tell you sincerely you will be a princess bride.
Enjoy your day, you are a beautiful lady.
Kristin 03-30-2007, 12:29 AM Awww...you ladies are so good for my ego!! :p That is very sweet of you Kitty. (But I didn't post the side shot of me in that dress. That really shows my size, LOL!)
Mer - I may be going bare-necked after all. After searching and searching and thinking and thinking, I finally ordered a beautiful, understated yet elegant, CZ tennis necklace and got an email today saying that it's backordered!! Ugh!!
Kristin 04-05-2007, 09:02 AM OK, the flowers are ordered! I decided to add three table arrangements for the head table. We are getting married in front of the head table, so I have one center & two side arrangements.
The side ones have tapers and the center one a pillar candle for us to light together. It should look pretty during the ceremony & dress things up a bit and they'll make nice table arrangements during the reception!
Our accent color is periwinkle/cornflower blue. My mom's dress, Jersey's dress (or accent ribbons) and the vests & ties will all be that color. It should look really nice with the florals of irises, ivory roses and those little baby blue flowers!
Now, I still have to get the invitations ordered and the guest list finalized, so we can get the final head count to the caterer. Still so much to do!!
Kristin 04-29-2007, 12:30 PM OK,
I used invitationsbydawn.com and designed it myself. We used a claddagh image at the top and the words Mo Anam Cara, which is Gaelic for "My Soul Mate"
http://FileLibrary.MYAASite.Com/Content/0/34/22098856.jpg
Kristin 04-29-2007, 12:36 PM We are meeting with the baker on Wednesday, but here is our idea.
We ordered this Irish Belleek figurine, with the claddagh on the base, for the cake top:
http://FileLibrary.MYAASite.Com/Content/0/34/22098879.jpg
And the cake will have a rolled fondant icing colored to match the top and a celtic knot pattern around each layer like the cake below, but with our flowers - irises & baby blue flowers:
http://FileLibrary.MYAASite.Com/Content/0/34/22098889.jpg
Kristin 04-29-2007, 12:40 PM Well, we got the rings and I HATED my ring. It was small and flat and narrow. You could barely see the knotwork and it just disappeared next to my engagement ring.
Jeremy's, on the other hand, was perfect.
http://FileLibrary.MYAASite.Com/Content/0/34/22098903.jpg
So I returned mine and ordered an exact copy of Jeremy's - men's version and all - but sized to my 5.5 size. It should look solid enough to hold it's own against the engagement ring. Which, by the way, we finally had customized. (See next post.) I like that they match now and the three diamonds now have meaning - his, mine & ours - the blending of our families! :)
christina923 04-29-2007, 12:47 PM ok...since ya posted the invitation here, its open right?? ;)
lovely kristin! everything is beautiful!!
Kristin 04-29-2007, 12:50 PM The Engagement Ring Story
OK, when we first were engaged, we went to Zales and they said to come back in 3 weeks, to their remount show, and we could pick out our setting & stone.
We said we wanted a 2 carat, blue, pear-shaped sapphire and one 4mm, trillian-shaped white sapphire on either side. They said no problem.
We get there 3 weeks later, all excited to walk away with the ring (especially me, LOL) and they had NOTHING. No pear-shaped sapphires, no white sapphires AT ALL. I was so disappointed that we ended up going home with a channel set band, with the only pear-shaped stone they had - a lab-created stone from a cheap ring. We figured we would eventually upgrade the stone.
Well, about a month later, I got a real 2ct pear sapphire on eBay for about $50. It was OK, but people always asked if it was an onyx, because it was so dark unless in sunlight.
So, we budgeted in fixing my ring for the wedding. I got it on Friday and it is GORGEOUS now and more than I ever wanted! I went to several jewelers and a few said my ring couldn't be altered the way I wanted it (add the trillion white sapphires to the band with the channel set diamonds) and a few never returned calls with estimates.
Finally, I went to a little jewelry shop a few blocks from my house. This little Russian man owns it. He said, "No problem!" It took a few sapphire orders to find a beautiful blue pear in the 2 ct range, but we finally found one. He did a lovely job and I have a dream ring! Even my 14 year old son said, "Mommy, that ring is BEAUTIFUL, OMG!!" LOL!
Just goes to show that a beautiful engagement ring doesn't have to be an expensive diamond - it just takes perseverence!
It is soooo hard to photograph, so this is the best picture I could get. The trillion looks like a shiny blob next to the main stone:

Jo-Admin 05-01-2007, 04:55 AM I LOVE the ring..it's beautiful!
It's not wedding related, but Kristin, what do you use to care for your skin? You always look so "glowy" and young! I honestly cannot tell you all have an age gap at all....
Everything looks absolutely wonderful..it's going to be a fantastic wedding, and I can't wait to see the video!
jellybean400 05-01-2007, 07:19 AM Very exciting!! :D
kindanice 05-01-2007, 11:15 AM The ring is beautiful. Everything is coming together well it seems:D

Thanks Jo.
My skin? Geez, I'm HORRIBLE about taking care of it. I only recently started using Oil of Olay wet clothes to clean my makeup off at night. I'm horrible about removing makeup. I sleep in it all of the time & they say that's the worst. I've used Oil of Olay Daily Regenerating Serum for about 2 years.
I think the big thing is that I wear full makeup, but I try to make it look natural. I use a base makeup, coverup for spots, a good powder and bronzing blush. I blush my cheeks, top of my forehead and the bridge of my nose - all where the sun would normally color. I think that's what makes my skin look smooth and glowy?
I also stay out of the sun. My friends always had gorgeous tans and I was mostly white all of the time, LOL! But, it really shows a difference now. Being a little pudgy helps fill out the wrinkles, too, LOL.

Ok, so the cake didn't go exactly as planned.
To do the celtic knot was very difficult and they didn't think it would turn out as I hoped.
So, Jeremy saw this cake - actually, the pic we saw had peach roses & swag - and thought it was really cool. So we picked this one, with periwinkle swag and roses (no grapes or whatever those things are). The roses look just like the ones the bride is holding on the cake top. We are thinking we might get a little periwinkle ceramic paint and add the color the roses on the cake top to match!
Of course, Jeremy's taste is getting more sophisticated, so this cake was an extra $150 just because of the fondant flowers and swag!
Kristin 05-06-2007, 11:32 AM This is a swatch of periwinkle fabric we are using from David's Bridal as the color basis:

Did I show you guys the tux? Click the link and then just choose the cornflower color for the vest. The picture to the right will change the vest color.
That is basically the tux, except we are using ivory shirts because my dress is ivory.

zoliepup 05-06-2007, 11:40 AM Love the cake and that tux is hot!
Kristin 05-17-2007, 11:37 AM WooHoo! My new wedding band came and it looks AWESOME with my engagement ring now.
It definitely needed to be more substantial to hold it's own against the engagement ring. And I really like how our rings match exactly now.
Wow, it's getting so close now and I still have so much to do!!
coloradogrrrl 05-17-2007, 02:00 PM I would go for saturday. As you said on monday most people work so it might makes you feel and others like to rush things through. Its YOUR day. So enjoy it. Dont rush through it
:jiggy:
I totally agree that Saturday would be best. Sundays are a day of rest for most people, the only day of the week they can "chill" before starting yet another work week. When I married my ex husband we also had a Sunday, late afternoon wedding and I totally regret it. We head a higher than normal decline rate, and it seemed like we had more people dropping in for an hour because of other stuff to do. It just didn't have the celebratory feel that it should have.
My 2 cents.
Kristin 05-17-2007, 03:38 PM Geez all this wedding stuff makes me so excited. Everything is coming together Kristen and it all looks fabulous. I hope everything works out as you plan! Great idea creating this thread; sort of a virtual wedding diary!:D
Thanks Ally - it's been a lot of fun - thanks for reading my ramblings!:D

Too late, unfortunately. The hall, pastor, DJ, floral & cake are already booked and the invites are already printed, waiting to be mailed.
We've had some people complain - mostly people who live about 3 hours away and say they have to work.
Personally, I would and I HAVE taken off of work the next day if I had a family obligation to attend. I think, if they really care, they'll be there. If not, less we have to pay for and screw them.
I don't see any reason why, with 2 months notice, someone can't at least commit to coming to a 3 o'clock wedding and dinner after. If you have to bow out at 9pm, so be it. No excuse to miss the whole thing, though.
The day is about Jeremy and me, not them.
From my understanding, Jewish people often are married on Sunday because they cannot get married during the Sabbath. So Sunday is a common wedding day.
Do all their friends and family whimp out?
(My ire is not directed at you, coloradogrrrl - but my family has been fine about this and his family is squawking. Like they've never partied too late on a Sunday before for absolutely no reason and this is a supposedly important day!)
Kristin 05-23-2007, 12:16 PM Jeremy's passport came yeaterday - woohoo! :yay:
We were mor ethan a bit nervous because we found out they could hold it because of any owed back child support (he's always paid, just extra birth expenses, etc). So it was a HUGE relief, because his took a week longer for some reason!!
Oooo...and my cake top arrived, too. It's really pretty!
LadyBaseball 05-23-2007, 01:21 PM
you could even go with a 4pm dinner, then those who need to leave earlier still have some party time?
wow, only $400 for a hall, and $17/person for a meal?!
Great idea![\QUOTE]
Wow that does sound fun! I want to get married either on the beach or a baseball field. :bgrin2: Then we'd take the whole wedding party to a baseball game and leave from there after the game to our honeymoon. Wherever that maybe. :bgrin2:
Kristin 06-22-2007, 12:05 PM Final dress fitting is today!!
I'm also picking up the girl's dresses and I'm bringing everything along so I can see how it all looks - dress, jewelry, headpiece, hair & veil.
Yesterday, I ordered a sample of freeze dried flower petals for wedding confetti. Seems this is really popular in the UK, as most of the websites selling it were there.
My problem is that my colors are ivory and periwinkle. I found an ivory rose and blue hydrangea petal mix at flyboynaturals.com:
http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/flyboynaturals_1952_894691
If it looks good, I'm getting enough to sprinkle around the votive candles on the tables and putting the rest in little cones (they have cones embedded with seeds, which guests can plant at home and get perinnial wildflowers), or sachets, for people to toss as we come back down the isle in the hall!
The tables should look like this:

whiterose 06-22-2007, 08:15 PM Love the petal idea, Kristin. It's going to be lovely.
Kristin 06-24-2007, 12:04 PM Thanks all. I can't wait to see it all together.
Hey, I'm not planning on stopping drinking just cause I'm getting married, LOL!
Kristin 06-24-2007, 12:09 PM OK, the RSVPs were due back on Friday.
Out of almost 80 cards I sent out, we've received about 20 back!! Only 3 were "cannot attend". I have to have the guest count to the caterer by July 12th. Should I start calling people??? Or assume they aren't coming? I KNOW some of the people who haven't replied said they were coming when I asked for their address.
Jeremy says give it a couple days and then start calling or emailing people.
Do people think that if they aren't going that they should just not reply? Would I be rude to call and ask if they are coming or not? What the hell did I spend all of that money on nice invites for when 60% of the people have to be emailed or called anyhow, LOL???
Jeremy says we sent them out too late, but we had a 10 day RSVP time. If you go too long, people lose the invite and/or forget to answer. With a prestamped return card, I figured 10 days would be OK (we were shooting for 2 weeks, but ran into some delays on addresses.)
Help??
Angel 06-24-2007, 02:18 PM Give it until you receive the mail on 6/30. By 7/1 you should be calling.
That gives everyone a bit more time and still leaves you enough time to make the calls.
People can be pains in the **** when it comes to RSVP's!
christina923 06-24-2007, 06:07 PM people are extremely rude, dumb, and clueless...
10 days was plenty of time. what i have found, most do not even know what RSVP stands for, and if they do know, you didn't mean them!
call, email... unfortunately it wastes your time though
Kristin 07-14-2007, 10:05 PM Well, we had the rehearsal dinner tonight. It was the first time his parents met my mom, my brother and his family.
The rehearsal went about 40 minutes. The photographer came, as well, so we were able to block out plans for photos. We set up the hall seating and one table centerpiece to see how they would look and did a quick run-through. Now I have to type up a "schedule" of sorts for everyone's reference and a seating chart for my sons - the ushers.
We ate dinner at the restaurant in the Inn at which we are getting married. It's called The Bavarian Inn and the menu was VERY German oriented with authentic German cuisine. I think it threw all of us a bit for a loop (my fault, I thought it would be more American/German), but we decided to be adventurous and try things. Overall, everyone enjoyed their meals. Luckily, there was an American-style kiddie menu for the children.
Mom sat at the opposite end from Jeremy and me -with his parents. In the end, his mother came up to me and said I have a very nice mother and I should be proud or something such. Mom told Jeremy she liked his parents, too. Overall there was some story-telling and a lot of laughter, so I think it went pretty well.
Mom was great, at the rehearsal she could see Jeremy's mom sitting a bit left out, so she called her over to get her "opinion" on a few things. Then his mom loosened up a bit and started being more involved - telling us how to "give away the bride" and tips on pacing ourselves down the aisle.
So, I think it was a success! :D
Whew! Only 8 days to go!!!
I don't know now if we'll have video anymore, but I will definitely post a lot of pictures! The photographer is coming early in the day to even photogragh the "getting ready" activities.
I'm starting to get nervous. Not about getting married, it's more like a director with her first production! LOL! :D
bubbleee 07-14-2007, 10:17 PM I love good news~~~~
How terrific that it all went "swimingly". I hope this makes you feel more relaxed about the family dynamic.
Angel 07-14-2007, 11:45 PM Awwww Kristin, I'm so happy to hear this update. You've been under such stress with the wedding that this was a blessing!
Thrilled to hear that it went well and I'm wishing your wedding day blows this memory out the water!
You're going to be such a beautiful bride and I hope you shed a lot of tears of happiness that day (But not so many to smudge your make-up. We gals have our limits!).
Oh and how I hope Jeremy cries when you come down that aisle!
K...I have to calm down, I'm getting way too excited for you, lol! But I want to do this: :runnningaround: :yay:
Chamaeleon 07-14-2007, 11:51 PM Kristin,
You have no idea how excited I am. I took and wrote down some of the ideas you had if you don't mind. It is helping us make some of our own up.
I hope it goes beautiful for you and your sweetie! You both so deserve it!
BIG hugs cowgirl!

Kristin 07-15-2007, 07:54 PM Like there WOULDN'T be rum & coke!!! The bride drinks Bacardi Limon & diet, thank you very much. Jeremy drinks Captain Morgans and my future in-laws drink Bacardi.
So, rum galore!
And, I guess if the groom can wear cowboy boots, guests can wear tank tops & jeans, LOL! We are definitely NOT formal.
So....I'm playing on Ageless right now, killing time while my PROGRAMS print out. I designed them myself, laid out on Word and now I'm printing them on a heavy parchment paper (used for printing out certificates/diplomas, etc.) They look so cool and professional!! (If I do say so myself.)
I'm trying to figure out how to get them formatted so you can see them...hold on.....
OK, if you have Adobe Acrobat you can see this PDF:
http://FileLibrary.MYAASite.Com/Content/0/34/23415845.pdf
I put a little story about the claddaugh and its meaning on the back of the program, too. Something for guests to read while they are waiting.
Man, I wish you could see it on the ivory parchment paper - it looks so much more elegant than the PDF!

If you can make it, then you are welcome to come! I think there will be extra food and there'll be plenty of booze!! :)
Cham: I designed my invitations using the custom invitation called "It's Up To You"
http://tinyurl.com/2fy6w2
You choose the ink color, the image at the top, the wording , font, etc.
Kristin 07-15-2007, 08:33 PM But you know what, Cham, if I knew then what I know now, I would have just done the same as I did with the programs, because these are turning out beautifully. I could've just designed them on my computer, too, and printed them up on card stock.
They have kits in Office Depot, which have all of the matching paper and envelopes and you just print them up.
But, now that I think about it, I was a bit more crunched for time, so I guess the Invitations by Dawn were simple and actually really reasonable (if I hadn't been stupid and ordered one for each GUEST instead of one for each HOUSEHOLD, LOL!)
Kristin 07-15-2007, 08:34 PM You know, I'd FREAK if you guys actually showed up. I won't hold my breath though! LOL! :D
MerAlove23 07-15-2007, 08:53 PM Kristin things look like they are going great!!
I can't wait to see the pics
zoliepup 07-15-2007, 08:57 PM They are lovely. Question for you... What does "son of the bride escorting" or "father of the bride escorting" mean? Hopefully someday I will be designing invitations myself ;)
jellybean400 07-15-2007, 09:07 PM Its very exciting! I remember i got my invitations from Invitations by Dawn, and that was ages ago...man, the memories.

I think that goes onto the next line...like its lisiting who exactly they are escorting.

Kristin 07-15-2007, 09:29 PM I think that goes onto the next line...like its lisiting who exactly they are escorting.
That's right - who is escorting whom down the aisle. My sons are escorting my future MIL and my daughter. The best man is escorting my mom (MOH) and my brother is escorting me.
Is ittoo confusing? I hope not - I already printed 50 so far! It takes a while because I have to print them on one side first and then flip them to the other side. I'm doing 25 a side a time, but my stupid printer broke a piece and I have to grab each one as it is ejected or it gets stuck at one corner and smudges. So its time consuming because I have to sit here.
But I have you all to keep me company!
I'm taking a break at 50 to make dinner, though. but I'll be back! :)

Kristin this is beautiful. How many days (I know but I love seeing the excitement in your post!)? ;) :D
Kristin 07-15-2007, 09:36 PM If you can make it, then you are welcome to come! I think there will be extra food and there'll be plenty of booze!! :)
Cham: I designed my invitations using the custom invitation called "It's Up To You"
http://tinyurl.com/2fy6w2
You choose the ink color, the image at the top, the wording , font, etc.
I'm thinking of just ordering the Thank you notes to match, now!
Cham, did you see the actual invites? I posted it earlier in the thread. The gold is actually a "sparkly" gold - very pretty! The cool thing is that you can create it on the site and then preview exactly how it will look. That is how I got this image:

Kristin 07-15-2007, 09:40 PM Kristin this is beautiful. How many days (I know but I love seeing the excitement in your post!)? ;) :D
Thanks Angel.
ONE WEEK!!!! :eek::eek::eek:
zoliepup 07-15-2007, 09:42 PM That's right - who is escorting whom down the aisle.
I just don't know the protocol... I figured that made the most sense. I hadn't see it before, and wanted to learn about it.
Kristin 07-15-2007, 09:42 PM Wow, by this time next week I'll be married to the most wonderful man I know!!
Kristin 07-15-2007, 09:44 PM I just don't know the protocol... I figured that made the most sense. I hadn't see it before, and wanted to learn about it.
Don't use me for example then, Zolie...I'm making crap up as I go along! LOL!
Speaking of protocol...anyone know when the aisle runner gets put down? Just before the wedding party or just before the bride? And who usually does it?
JennyJen 07-15-2007, 09:46 PM Wow, by this time next week I'll be married to the most wonderful man I know!!
You're not gonna get all emotional and sappy on me now!!!! Let's drink!!!!!:bgrin2:
Angel 07-15-2007, 09:50 PM Wow, by this time next week I'll be married to the most wonderful man I know!!
Will you be taking his last name? And if so have you been practicing writing it? :bgrin2:
I don't think I could contain myself. I'd go insane. I've been finding reasons not to get married because I'm terrible at stuff like this.
Kristin 07-15-2007, 09:50 PM Sappy first, then drinking. Sorry, ya gotta keep it straight - them there's protocols! :p
JennyJen 07-15-2007, 09:51 PM Sappy first, then drinking. Sorry, ya gotta keep it straight - them there's protocols! :p
Alright I got it now, as long as there's drinking I don't care what way you put it!!!!!
Kristin 07-15-2007, 09:55 PM Will you be taking his last name? And if so have you been practicing writing it? :bgrin2:

Yep. And keeping my late husband's name, too, for my boys. No hyphen, though.
Oh, guess what I found out? A lot of women take the opportunity to change their middle name to their maiden name ie Mary Jane Smith uses the form to change her name to Mary Smith Johnson.
Well, I found out that her name would really be Mary Jane Johnson, because you can only legally change your LASt name with marriage. You need a court order to LEGALLY change your first or middle names.
I found this out when applying for our license. I've dropped my middle name and was using my maiden name as my middle name. It was on my driver's license, social security card, taxes...everything.
But when the clerk saw my birth certificate had my original middle name, she said it HAD to match my social security card. So we had to run down to the federal building and get a new card with my original middle name!!
What a pain. She said it's a common mistake and women do it all of the time. She couldn't believe social security lets you put any name on the card. It screws up a lot of women getting married for the second time.

The wedding I was in that used an aisle runner....they had set it out before the actual ceremony...like when they were setting up the chairs and what not.
I think it'd be too difficult/would take too long to set out right before the bride. :D
How exciting!!! Soooo close. We're a little over a month but it's getting so close that I'm getting a little nervous...so I can imagine what you're feeling!
Nadine.
jellybean400 07-15-2007, 10:34 PM I think the best man did our's after everyone was seated. But i never knew protocol and wouldnt have gone by it anyway LOL! I'm sure you dont have to worry.
And your invites and beautiful, and not confusing.
It really is exciting.
zoliepup 07-15-2007, 10:36 PM Well, it sounded really official and like you did your research! If I relied on my friends IRL for protocol then I'd really be in trouble!
Kristin 07-15-2007, 11:34 PM OK, I found this:
An aisle runner may be used to accentuate the entrance of a bride. For this reason I believe the aisle runner should not be deployed before the ceremony, when everyone will walk on it, or even before the entrance of the bridal party.
The only people who should walk on an aisle runner before a bride are the the ring bearer and flower girl. If these children are not used in the ceremony then the deploying of the aisle runner should be immediately before the bride’s entrance.
The aisle runner is usually deployed by one or two ushers at the invitation of the minister. Used in this way the aisle runner contributes a sense of anticipation for the brides’ entrance. It says in effect ‘someone very special is about to enter.’ If the aisle runner is deployed before the wedding begins this effect is lost.
Aisle Runners are usually made of paper or cloth and are an inexpensive accessory to your wedding. Industry vendors like florists or bridal shops are typical places to purchase your aisle runner.
Please keep in mind, those of you having an outdoor wedding ceremony on grass may find your aisle runner uncooperative. Aisle runners are known to pick up and flap in the breeze and are easily punctures by the ladies with their heals. Aisle runners can also bunch up, especially as when being pulled along by a bride's long train. Aisle runners are best when used indoors.
jellybean400 07-16-2007, 12:11 PM I was just coming back to tell ya...
I got sent a link to sites with pics of a friend's wedding. They didnt bring the runner down until right before the bride walked out. But you already knew! lol
