the Valentine's wish

Here's a thought.

Given that it'll be Valentine's Day in, oh, a half-hour or so local time; and given that we men, collectively, start so few topics on the board; I figured I'd start a new thread.

So here it is.

Cards are nice, and flowers are nice, but...words seem to be the way to a woman's heart, more than anything else.

So, the challenge (for the guys to come up with, and the women to enjoy) is:

How would you tell the love of your life just what she means to you on the day of the year set aside for just such a thing?

(Or, if you're like me and not dating anyone at all, what would you say to her if you met such a woman on Valentine's Day?)

Yep, that's right. You get to write a Valentine, in your own words, right here, and the women here get to read 'em.

So, let's get started. Tug on the heartstrings and pour out those words.

C'mon, guys...the women are counting on us...

YOU CANT REALLY WRITE DOWN WHAT YOU WOULD SAY TO A WOMAN TO MAKE HER FEEL SPECIAL. FOR ME SHE WOULD HAVE TO BE RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. I WOULD HAVE TO LOOK INTO HER EYES AND HOLD HER HAND. I THINK OF WHAT I WOULD WANT TO SAY TO A WOMAN ALL THE TIME, AND I WOULD TRY TO MEMORIZE THOSE WORDS BUT WHEN I TELL HER IT WOULD COME OUT WRONG OR IT WOULDNT COME OUT AT ALL. I FEEL THAT SPONTANEATY(??) IS THE BEST WAY TO TELL A WOMAN HOW YOU FEEL. AT LEAST I MYSELF KNOW THAT IM NOT JUST SAYING WORDS THAT I ALREADY CAME UP WITH, BUT THOSE WORDS CAME STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART AND NOT A PIECE OF PAPER.

HOW WAS THAT LADIES?

Te amo mi amor de mi vida,

I know that I don't often tell in words how much you really mean to me, but I do try to show in actions by treating you like your the queen of my world, being their to calm all your fears by holding you in my arms and listening to you not only with my ears but with my heart. By always being their by your side through the good times and the bad and that knowing we will get thru it together. Before you came to my life I didn't know how to love ,but since then you have taught me the true meaning of love which is seeing not only the physical beauty of person but seeing that inner beauty were all true love start from. So on this special day I just wanted to say I LOVE YOU and thank you for making me a bettter person

Mark

OK If I touched your heart let me know LOL

Fate has brought us together to experience life to the fullest. You are my soulmate and the more I spend time with you, the more I feel like I known you forever. You are my shining star and my best friend! It is through your caring heart that gives me strength to move on when things get rough. You can count on me when you need a helping hand. Let my kisses on your cheek wipe away worry and concern. Receive my love through action and consistency so you know my love is true.

(Note: Since I fall in the "ain't dating anyone at all" category, the following love letter is highly fictionalized. Wish it were true, though.)

My love,

I spend my time thinking of you, often.

I've been watching the days on the calendar flip past like pages in a book...eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth...all the way to Valentine's Day and then past.

You would think that, having suggested the idea for a Valentine's wish, I would have written something for you on that day. Yet it's almost a weekend later and I'm still tangled up in the words.

So here we are -- or rather, here we aren't. You're there and I'm here, with half a country in between us, and the distance seems insurmountable just now.

Being apart, I close my eyes and imagine the two of us together -- anywhere -- and I want so badly to put into words the things imagined:

Pick a romantic spot. A beach, maybe. White sand. Skin-warm tropical water. Moonlight. Stars. Flowers. Soft words and even softer kisses.

I think of these things, and more, and I could write the fantasy out easily enough...

...yet, without you here, it just feels empty. Fake. Impersonal. As if I'm simply turning you into a character in a story, when I know that there's so very much more to you. So much more to us.

So I close my eyes again, and think of you again, and let the thoughts come out:

I think of your voice on the other end of the phone. Of someone who listens. Of someone who speaks of herself -- not with false humility, not with arrogance, but with the kind of quiet self-confidence that comes from accepting who she is.

About the way a conversation between us starts in one place and winds up in unexplored territory...about how the words and ideas come out when talking with you, so effortlessly and so wide-ranging, that sometimes it has us both wondering "how'd we wind up talking about this?"

About honesty, and openness, and acceptance. About forgiveness, for the big things and even the little things -- like the time when I compared the sound of your voice to that actress you didn't particularly like, and yet you didn't immediately compare me to a braying jackass in return. (I get that last comparison a lot.)

But most of all? I think about the simple joy of knowing you. The sheer delight of your company. Sharing. The opportunity every day, with you, to laugh and talk and think and write, and...and...

...and just be.

And then I think of you, again...your face and voice and the sheer electricity of your presence, and suddenly the distance between us doesn't seem so great anymore.

But I still miss you.

Happy Valentine's Day, dear.

I love you.

And then does it ever stop? I mean, what happened to writing your loved one a peom or two from time to time. Then on Valentine's Day, you could make a special dedication or present it to her in a special way.

Just back on the site after a weekend away - my goodness, my eyes filled up just reading this thread. Don't know how I would react if someone actually said anything like that directly to me - probably cry my eyes out for a week! (out of happiness!).

A far cry from "Hey Cheeky, I got you flowers!!".... but they were much appreciated.

Hope you all had a Happy Day
Ari

I think I'll make Robin a Valentine's card.

It will read:

"My Love:

Words simply cannot express what my heart feels.
You are my deep ocean, my highest mountain.
You are my sun and moon.
You have my heart.
You own my soul.
When we lay together, I can't get close enough to you.
Every time I look into your eyes, I get blown away.
When you hold me in your strong arms, I feel so secure.
When you listen to my problems, and dry my tears,
You make me feel like I'm worth something.
I matter, because you love me so much.
This incredible person loves me.
You remain the love of my life.
Thank you.

And what a lucky lady indeed I am!

redandwhitehusk is my husband. He couldn't fit the y on the end of his name. I asked him later why didn't you just use the & symbol? His reply, "I never thought of that." ~lol~

You know, he is still like this 4 1/2 years later, he uses words so well and he shows his appreciation of me, who I am, and of us everyday. What we have together is so very special. I will love this man till the day I die!! And that is not happening for a long time!
