Whats your fountain of youth?

Good morning all :)

I Thought I would start a thread to see if any of the lovely OW here would like to share any personal secrets/tips to staying young-looking.

I think most of us dread the thought of looking old and goodness knows the billion dollar beauty industry backs that theory up.

Genetics are a big thing I know....as is diet and exercise..but do you have any products or techniques you have found to be helpful in keeping the wrinkles at bay?

For me...I have very dry skin and am more prone to wrinkling than my oily skinned counterparts..so I moisturize like crazy...

My favorite thing to use on my face (around the eyes, lips, and smile line area especially) is good ol A&D ointment. Its loaded with lanolin and it keeps my skin so smooth and soft. I have used it since my 20's and I have very few wrinkles, especially around the eyes, no crows feet...yet anyway :)

anyone else? please share!

ugh, i'm a slacker from the word "Go".

about twice a week, maybe, i use Biore' Deep Pore cleansing scrub.
and i use Jergens Intensive Healing hand lotion....on my face...3 maybe 4 times a week.

i rarely wear makeup.
i don't drink water.
i eat what i want.
i sleep so sporadically it's pathetic (as jody and kat can attest to)
i smoke.
i may have a glass of wine now and then, but rarely.
i wear chapstick, lipgloss, carmex....constantly, can't stand the lippy's being dry.

i would LOVE to see some dummy-proof, lazy person, she'll do it if it's easy tips from the other gals. i don't really have 'wrinkles'...but i've noticed lil laugh lines, one on either side of my kisser. which makes me go, hmmm, the perils of being happy.....Lines!!!!

no fair.

I live in CO where the air is super dry. But I have really oily skin, so I think it balances itself out. But I sleep with a humidifier in my bedroom and I absolutely swear by the Natural Advantage by Jane Seymour skin care line. It's expensive, but I have seen amazing results. I also drink water like crazy and exercise outdoors in the CO fresh air. I am addicted to Burt's Bee's Wax lip balm for my lips.... Hope this helps.

I'm anxiously waiting for someone to provide some great advice about the sagging neck skin (sob). I hate it!

Other than that, I hardly have any wrinkles. I think it's due to not smoking and always moisturing every day, and drinking as much water as possible.

For moisturizer, I use L'oreal Age Perfect day creme. I love the feel of it. It's non-greasy and really lasts through most of the day. But, I am always open to trying new products. Might have to check out that Jane Seymour stuff.

I love the L'oreal Age Perfect line. I use the Day and the Night creams. I think their eye cream is the best I've ever found. My secret to applying the creams is this... first I mist my face with Evian water, then I gently "press" the water mist into my skin with the flats of my fingers. Next, I press and pat the cream into my skin the same way. Never rub. The gentle pressing and patting brings up the blood circulation for a nice glow.

Every 3 days, I exfoliate with Clinique Exfoliating Scrub. Next comes the Evian mist and Age Perfect eye cream. Finally I press and pat in Olay Touch of Sun sunless face tanner. Using the face tanner every 3 days maintains a light "tan" which evens out my skin tone and helps visibly diminish little flaws and lines.

I think I probably have a young look from genentics. I remember when my grandmother was in her 80's, and she hardly had any wrinkles. But she also was a heavy smoker and had quit when she was in her 40's or 50's. She also exercised a lot on her exercise bike.

My mom looked great well into her 50's, until my brother was murdered, and then I think the stress of all that changed her forever. Also, she's a heavy smoker, used to go out in the sun a lot, and drinks alcohol. From my own experience, I think all of those things make your skin look older.

I used to smoke, drink alcohol, and when I was younger was out in the sun quite a bit. But I quit drinking and smoking and that made a big difference. As soon as I quit that stuff, my skin improved. Most of the time, I look better now in my later 40's than I did in my 20's and 30's.

Also, when I quit having sugary things, wheat things, or anything with caffeine in it, my skin gets less of a red tone to it - very nice and even complexion then. When I drink coffee or anything caffeinated, my skin gets a slightly more rough texture.

Lately, I've noticed that by increasing the amount of water I drink every day, some of the few wrinkles I WAS getting have gone away.

Also, I use these very simple things:

Olive oil/Shea Butter/Nigella Sativa L. Oil mixture. I make it into a balm. I use that as a moisturizer sort of skin conditioner.

Sometimes I mix honey and olive oil and leave it on my face for a while, then wash it off. That makes the skin super soft and clears up some of my blemishes.

I get breakouts sometimes, but I clear them up in less than a day with the Nigella Sativa oil. That oil also works really well to make wrinkles disappear and keep lips smooth and supple (I use a black seed oil lip balm when my lips are getting really dry). Sometimes I just massage a bit of that oil into the skin all over my face. Then it takes out redness, any puffiness, takes away wrinkles, clears up blemishes, and makes my skin soft - all in one go.

I don't wear make up most of the time. Although, it's dry here, so I do use the above moisturizers, alternating between them.

I stay out of the sun for the most part. On me, even a little sun causes my skin to look older/drier/more leathery. It's a tradeoff. I look hot (I think..lol) with a tan and I can get really tanned, then it looks cool with my dark brunette hair and bright blue eyes, and I think I look so much worse with just pale skin, but for ME... I'd rather have a pale skin than the wrinkles/dryness/leatheriness.

I also try to sweat somehow at least a little every day. That seems to make my skin glow and look "healthy".

My dad used to get on me for the way I would wash my face when i was a teen... I would really scrub it with the wash cloth. He said it would damage my skin, but it seems only to have served as an exfoliator and keeps the circulation good, so it's been a good thing... as far as I can tell. I also like to use that Swiss Formula Apricot Scrub - cheapo stuff from practically any drug store. I LOVE that stuff! I'll use that maybe once a week.

Hm... I also make my own face soap from a vegetable base (instead of lard or some other animal fat), that also has shea butter and Nigella Sativa oil, and a few other things. It's the best skin wash I've ever used, bar none. It's glycerine soap (glycerine is usually removed during the soap making process, and this is a base that USES the glycerine). Glycerin is a humectant - draws moisture to itself.

Now, when it comes to make up... I found the mineral powders are nice, especially if it has Vitamin C in it. As a matter of fact, if a moisturizer has Vitamin C in it, and avacado oil, that REALLY makes my skin look good.

I would like to know what to do about the sagging neck (under the chin), too, if anyone has tips about that.. and how to get rid of this darn 5:00 shadow :(

i hate it too and i think surgery, or thermage, or threading are the only options...nothing else works it seems
if it wasn't so damn expensive... *sigh*

Bumping up this thread in order to rave about a new product from Clinique - Turnaround Concentrate Visible Skin Renewer. I've been using it for 2 weeks, once a day under my regular moisturizer. Instantly smooth skin, diminished pores, and enhanced radiance - and it lasts all day. My skin still looks good in the morning. This is good stuff!

Hmm...maybe I should start using on my hands too.

This is pretty much me. I never wear make-up, eat what I want, don't sleep (I'm a freaking resident--they think sleep is unnecessary for us). I use AloeGator medicated lip balm (love it, it's so yummy)... I do drink water. And I don't smoke, but I drink like a fish:D

I went this week to get a mineral type base for a big gala I'm going to tomorrow night, but the lady at the counter was like, "Your skin is so dry-- You definitely need a moisturizer... You'd better be careful, or you are going to look older than your age, like you're 30 or something."

Tee hee, I thought, boy if I don't look like 30 yet, I'm probably doing ok. And I loved her so much, I bought the stinking moisturizer anyway. It feels really nice (Laura Mercier) under my eyes.

Well, I guess I'm not very good at beauty tips, since I don't really use any!

I don't think I have fountain! Wheres MY fountain?

I'm not too worried about aging yet, except for a few changes that are indicating how gravity is going to affect my face. I'm going to get jowls, I know it. I've briefly considered standing on my head for some amount of time each day to slow the process. Do you think that could work?

Seriously though, I've been ugly, I've been pretty. I'm not scared of looking old; only of acting old.

Me too, Bella!

In that respect my kids keep me young. It's funny because I was looking in the mirror this morning while getting ready for work, and I was smiling. I do have crow's feet when I smile, but I like them. I never thought I would but I really do. That's NOT to say that I don't moisturize like a mad fool, though...I've used Oil of Olay since I was 16, I NEVER use soap on my face (or anywhere else, for that matter except the smelly bits), and after the O of O I use calendula cream on my forehead, and around my eyes and mouth. I also take omega fish oils, vitamin A and E, and flax seed oil. I have an oily T-zone and I'm extremely dry everywhere else, and that seems to help even things out.

Oh. Another trick is really white teeth. Seriously. I drink coffee and tea, and I'm just naturally obsessed with my teeth anyway, so I go nuts with the white strips about twice a year. Surprisingly, it doesn't seem to matter how old you look, if you smile and your teeth look white and healthy, people instantly think you're younger than you are.

Oh yes Celtish! I take vitamin E and fish oil capsules most nights before bed too. They seem to have even more effect than moisturiser. If I'm in a motivated mood, I use vitamin E capsules on my skin, which is something I should do more regularly.

I like crows feet too. I've always thought they are sexy on men, and when i see women with them I instanly know I'm looking at someone who smiles a lot and I warm to them.

Hmm, if any one ask me "Whats your fountain of youth?" then my answer will be a good charming life is the real fountain of youth. I am not very sure, but many of you may refer a good healthy life is the fountain of youth. and spend 90% of their time in managing them selfs. But I believe a healthy life is totally west without the charm of fun.
