Plastic Surgery: yay or nay

Would you have plastic surgery?
I ask this, because I read through the "old body" post, and saw a *little* dissing about PS.
I had a tummy tuck in January, after losing 50+ lbs. I also had, what turned out to be, a major hernia, which was repaired. I am totally thrilled with my results. They are not perfect, but I look a damn sight better than I did.
Will I have more ps? maybe, down road....I adore my doc, and he is dead honest with me....
I was just wondering, as we deal with our aging bodies....I explained my surgery to my ym (originally me him BEFORE my surgery), and was a little shy about the very long scar, but now it's no big deal....
Anyways, i was just wondering....

I've thought about a boob job, but I'd rather spend that money on something else and the idea of having foreign objects implanted in my body just to make my chest stick out further seems kind of...I don't know, icky? And that's beside the fact that they don't last forever and I'd have to get them redone 20 years down the road. Nah, I'll stick with what little I've got and be glad I won't have the same gravity-related problems that most women do.

When I was younger, I would have flat out said "NO." But, now that I'm older and can see what time and gravity can do to the body, I'd have to say yes, but it depends on the kind of surgery. Like Pink, I wouldn't do anything that involves implants. But, I would definitely say yes to having my neck area tightened if I could afford it. And, possibly even my tummy area, too.

i'm with whiterose... just some tightening of some areas... no extreme makeover ;)

I posed this question to my YM as I thought about the aging process. The idea of it somehow made me feel weird or "icky" as PP said. My YM said that if PS was something I would want to do, then I wasn't the right person for him. I'm sure it works for some, but I'm glad that he and I are on the same page

PS hells ya! I am planning on a tummy tuck and a boob job for sure. I am down 90 pounds now and I'd like to loose another 80 (for me, surgeon would be happy if I lost another 40 pounds). After that, I'm definately doing plastics.

Yes, for sure. I don't feel like I have a lot of extra cash these days as I'm trying to finish my professional designation ($$$ courses) but I will definitely be getting stuff done.

I have had a tummy tuck and I'm going to have a breast reduction as soon as I lose the required pounds... I want a regular C :bgrin2:
Can't wait to be able to buy cloths that actually fits over the chest and doesn't make me look like I'm wearing a tent or like the buttons are about to pop... LOL

I wouldn't do any other PS though... not now.. but I'm pretty sure I will change my mind in maybe 10 years ;)

I HOPE I will be able to find a way to get rid of these horrible saddlebags I have carried around since I was 12 and have NEVER been able to get rid of through any amount of diet or exercise! And now that I 'm older, I also would love to fix the bags under my eyes that make me look constantly tired, and the frown between the eyes that makes me look constantly angry, and the beginning of the saggy neck.

I still diet, and I still exercise...but there are some things that it just won't fix.

I have had it done twice and am very happy with the results. So I am all for it. I am not for changing facial features. But enhancing what you already have works great for me!

I had a breast reduction last fall...from a DDD to a D. Now that it's been 6 months...healing is mostly done....swelling gone, (fading of scars takes 1 to 1-1/2yrs I'm told) I could have gone for a C. I did this for me. There are scars...and the struggle I had before making my final decision was....Scars are forever, are they worth it? 6 months later...let me tell you...for me...they most definitely are. The thought did flash through my mind.."Will a man ever accept me with scars?"....well, according to my PS (who was amazing), "If he's the right one...then it won't matter". I did this not having met my ym yet, but, knowing I was going to, and it wasn't going to stop me, cause I was doing this for me.

We do live in a very superficial society, especially for women. Everywhere we turn...t.v., billboards, magazines, movies, even radio...all telling us what we should look like...what "beauty" is. Men don't have this...but, many expect it of us (please note, I did not say ALL).

I have a cousin who I think is COMPLETELY adorable. She is in great shape...looks GREAT in her work out clothes...total athlete look (which I always dreamed of, but you can't have with a huge chest), and she wants implants. She has never been happy with her chest. So there we sat one day talking about why I never wanted mine, and why she always wanted some. It is such a personal decision. We can look at someone and think: "but, they are sooo cute, they don't need x, y, or z....but, we aren't living in their bodies or mind.

Would I have other work done? I would like to think most of us on this side of the board are old enough and have experienced enough to "never say never". I know I don't anymore.

Not for me, I avoid pain, now if I HAD to have surgery and they could lift my boobs up to where they used to be while I was under .... oh yeah!!! LOL

I had a face lift and I was thrilled. I plan to do it again in a few years.

I do not think that I will be having a tummy tuck, and my boobs are small and perky and I love them as they are.

I will try to get laser lyposuction which is not invasive, but the doctor is booked solid for months and he has not given me an apointment yet.

I think that my man should love me as I am and not different. I am old woman, he must love me as old woman.

I looked tired all the time, so I had my eyes done a couple of years ago. The surgery was great. Even people who thought that I did not need it were very surprised at how much it improved my looks.

I am moving into a smaller place this year so that I can afford to save money for a tummy tuck & MAYBE a face lift.

My Mom looks good at 80 and I intend to still look good at 60. :p

:( Newest plastic surgery "craze"....

Labial reductions!!! Yep....apparently due to ideals in the porn industry and such, smaller down there is better (possibly looks younger??? )

I seriously doubt any guy is thinking about the size of our labia when having sex....

Some things are just going WAY too far these days! :(

Bigger boobs...smaller p***ies...will we ever (collectively) just be ok with physical appearances and differences?

I am all for it. That being said, I have had a face lift (life has been hard on my poor looks) and I am really wanting a tummy tuck...but geeze the price$$$$....maybe down the road. I do botox for my lines between my eyes ( I LOVE it) but other than that, well, we will just have to wait and see...hum:bgrin2:

That is really sad. I do think i remember hearing about that before. Of all things for someone to have to worry about.

Maybe guys need to start getting ball lifts :bgrin2:

WOW:bgrin2: I have to say that I am thrilled with the responses on this thread! It was as soon as two years ago that I posted about my facial laser surgery, and the general attitude on the board back then was, "Plastic surgery is all about vanity and is wrong!!" I felt I had to defend myself over and over again...and sheesh, it was only LASER (nothing implanted or cut off).

My laser results and experience was SOOOOOO freakin positive, that I am happy to report (now that I don't think I'll be attacked any more here) that I've since had a tummy tuck AND a neck lift:yes: . Yep... some people buy a new car, I saved for PS...and the results are AMAZING, I couldn't be happier driving a new convertible:no:

I met Jake 12 days after my laser surgery in 2004...he thought I was about 34 (I was 47 then)...that was a good start. It completely obliterated my age spots, sun damage, precancerous areas (that I'd had to have burned off previously 3 times in the dermo's office), 100% of my fine lines around my eyes, etc. and 75% of my deep wrinkles !! It is literally miraculous, and I would do it again...in a second. There is more discomfort than pain afterwards for about 5 days, and then peeling for about 7 more...I went out to lunch on day 12, and met my fiance !!!:D

Tummy tuck...longer recovery period...but I teach dance for a living, and I was back in the studio in 6 weeks doing crunches:yes: . Went from a size 14 with belly sag ("front butt" some call it) that could never be exercised away because, as my surgeon told me, my rectus abdominus was separated down the middle from pregnancies (common in most women). He sewed up my abdominals and removed the excess skin...I have my tight pre-pregnancy, hour glass tummy back!! I don't have to have the lights out when I'm intimate with Jake any more (I've ALWAYS hated my saggy stomach). I wear a size 8-10 pants now, and I haven't dieted, it's just the improved body shape.

My surgeon just added on a mini neck lift during the tummy tuck (tightened my neck muscles underneath my chin...no skin removal), and the dif is day and night. My 25 year old profile is back.

I'm not a fanatic...I have a healthy self esteem....I've never gone in debt over PS .... but technology, board certified surgical teams that are excellent, the new generation of subtle surgical techniques that do not make you look "pulled" or like a freak, and other factors just make PS an option thats viable and relatively safe for those who want it.

I gotta say....to anyone considering PS... don't let anyone shame you into feeling like it's all vanity or selfishness. We get braces, we die our gray hair, we get acrylic nails, we wear makeup to cover the signs of aging....PS is another option to correct what you want to correct.

Obviously, PS obsession or going with someone who's not certified to save money is inviting tragedy....but moderated corrective PS is totally fine...and, ask anyone who's had it and most if not all will tell you they are thrilled with the results and feel it was worth every penny. I know I am! Wanna see pictures of my new tummy:tongue2: :bunny_4: jk
