Star Trek: Nemesis

Went to see this over the weekend. Surprisingly good, given that just about every review had panned it. OK, so as a movie on its own it's not much good - the cast are not as young and beautiful as they used to be, and the plot is trying desperately to be The Wrath Of Khan.

HOWEVER I'm a fan of ST: TNG, and I didn't find the age thing a problem. None of the cast looked incapable of doing anything they were doing, and I'm very pleased that the original cast are still there, rather than some token young folks being thrown in for the sake of it. The Next Generation always had a good thing going with a strong ensemble, and to break it up would be a pity. Having the bad guy, Tom Hardy, who is I guess in his twenties was a pretty nice gesture. The scenes between Hardy and Patrick Stewart were very well done.

Complaints? Hardy's character Shinzon does deteriorate into token bad guy halfway through; the Romulans are no where near as threatening as they used to be; and the end is a bit of mush. But if you're a Trekkie you'll love it. If not, er, go for the sheer exuberant fun.

Have a better one!

Was dragged to see this against my wishes. I didn't want to see it since I slept for 2 hours during the new Star Wars but I really liked Star Trek:Nemesis. Kinda ended sad but I see a new one eventually.

I think probably the next movie will be a mish-mash of TNG / DS9 and Voyager characters. Nemesis didn't do well enough at the box office for them to stick with the same lot, and I don't think Patrick Stewart or Brent Spiner really want to do it anymore. I'd personally really like a DS9 movie, but I don't think it'll happen.

Have a better one!

I liked Nemesis better when they called it The Wrath of Kahn.

Go watch the second movie and just count how many plot threads and situations were lifted right from the greatest of all the ST movies. You'll run out of fingers.

Never mind the fact that they missed the perfect chance to explaine how the Romulans got Piccards DNA in the first place while tying it into the regular tv series.

OK... Im going to shut up now because I saound waaaay to much like someone who still lives in their parents basement. ;)

I thought that Nemesis played more like a tv show than a movie. Yes there was a lot more action in this one than any other previous movies... But it was ok for my taste and I am a die hard trekkie.. ok not a die hard but somewhat of a trekkie and my favorite characters are Picard, Data and Q. I think they should make a movie around Q now....
