Being I hated school when I was there and the only reason I went at all was to hang out with friends and spent most of my time getting into trouble and smoking and drinking under the bleachers I would not go back. I hated school and I was not good at it, I barely made it out of there and once I was out I never once wanted back in!!!

Never like my teachers well maybe one or two that were really good and understood me and gave me a chance, I was trouble big trouble and most of the teachers either wanted nothing to do with me or would fight there *** off to help me...so I am grateful that I did get those teachers and got there help or else I'd be with Paris in jail right now...oh wait she's home sick never mind.

My first thought on reading this thread was Paul Simon's words: When I look back on all the crap I learned in high school, it's a wonder I can think at all."

I guess my high school teachers must have done something right. One thing they did do was teach me about people:
- not to respect anyone just because they hold a certain position in life;
- that some people can seem to be really nice and actually be truly wicked;
- and that being well-intentioned but sucking at what you do is valueless, except for the pity factor, and that doesn't help the people that are relying on you to do your job.

Oh yeah, and I had a high school principal that told me I couldn't go through life telling people to go to hell. That was a very valuable lesson! :yes:

As far as the social aspects of high school. I was never fully "in" high school that way, but I wasn't "in" in grammar school either. I always felt like I was just kind of floating around seeing stuff, but not really involved in it all.

I'm a high school teacher and knowing what I know about high school I would rather be homeschooled or seek an alternative education where I could have some say-so about my education. My granddaughter is currently attending an elementary level charter school in Northern CA for budding artists and it's great. But, if later on we don't find an appropriate school for her, I will home teach her.

I'd go back in a heartbeat! I had a great time, and it got me away from my nutty family.

I hung out with a very "artsy" crowd. We were all into music, theater, and art and literature. Everyone was intensely creative. We wrote plays and performed them, performed the music, etc. I went to a really large H.S. so there were little segments of people that one could align themselves with...in your own niche.

My first profession was a costume designer as a result of my experiences in H.S. Most of my friends from H.S. ended up making a living as artists, and are still fascinating people today. I'm the only one who ended up switching to science in my 30's.

I miss mrs bruni to..she taught me to love the theatre so much!

NO way! Worst years ever. Now, if I could go back to being about 6 years old, hmmmm. But only if I didn't have to go through the growing up part again!!

LOL... my sentiments exactly.

There were some times when I was in my 20's I think that I thought I'd like to go back and show everyone how far I'd come. My high school experience was not very good at all. And then most of the people that had been such terrorists to me turned out to be you know....lumps of wood, going nowhwere, nothing special I guess.

These days, I don't care. I have no desire to even go to a class reunion. I don't like the mentality of the people in the area where I grew up.

I just want to move on with my life - no looking back.

I would definitely never want to go back. I really don't feel I learned very much. I learned more from reading things on my own. I didn't like all the cliques either.

My kids have been in public school, homeschooled, and in a charter school. My oldest chose to go through high school all the way. She is the only one who never homeschooled. She does not feel she learned much at all in high school. She felt the teachers had to take more time trying to control behavior in the classroom than actually teaching anything, plus a police offer is stationed at the school now during the day due to various problems. The school is also overcrowded. My three youngest all tried the charter school this past year but chose to come back home for school, but every person is different.

I guess my equivalent is Secindary School (11-16)?

I wouldn't mind going back... we played football at break and lunch. Also had 2 sports related classes (PE and Games) during the week, which I really enjoyed.

I was quite happy at school. Had my group of friends, didn't really get bothered by anybody. Good times!

ding ding ding ding!! We have a winner lol

I made C's and D's in school. I detested school. I was involved, cheerleader, popularity contests won for the yearbook, all that jazz. But I stunk at the academic part (cept for English and English Comp, LOVE those still) because I just didn't want to be there.

Took my college admittance exams/tests and won a full ACADEMIC scholarship lol. It was never my lack of intelligence that caused me to almost fail a few courses, it was my total lack of interest.

lol, my first year of college, my gpa was.........wait for it..............1.27!!!
for the YEAR, not the semester, TWO semesters lol on an academic scholarship. But when I started working and my company paid for me to take courses that I could use at work.....4.0's and 3.7's, go figure lol

I like soup.

Yep, I think so. I was never one of the popular or really "cool" ones in high school, but I still had a good time and loved going there. Met my best friend during the first week of high school (we're still best friends), got good grades, learnt a lot and even had a risky affair with my favorite teacher(my first OM, hehe). Also, we went to a really exciting trip to Berlin and Prague in senior year for about two weeks. Lots of neat stuff happened in high school, and both of my English teachers there were Americans btw. Very fun :)

I made something good come from my school experiences: I volunteer to present a mental health program to teach 2nd graders to. among other things, reject the negative and embrace the positive, which will, hopefully, help them minimize the damage teachers and others can do to them and increase the effects of the good teachers and others can give them. :)
