I'm not even sure where to begin with how impressive that was. Sadly I'm sure that talent came at a big price for him.

But his mind is fantastically beautiful without a doubt.

Thanks for sharing it Kat!

Nice, Kat.

Autistic people "think in pictures", about everything. He's obviously a savant, and has a photographic memory as well.

Those of us have non-neurotypical people in our families know how talented they can be, even though they struggle with being overloaded sensory wise.

I enjoyed watching this video and thanks for sharing.

You're welcome. And I love the descriptor "non-neurotypical."

I have a schizophrenic brother. I'm going to employ that expression in the future! :)

Unbelievable. That is almost frightening, how accurate the drawing is.

I don't know a lot about autistic savants, but he seemed a lot more emotionally expressive than those I've seen before... in a documentary, and at a special school.

i'm proud if i don't burn the bread (i'm notorious in my home for doing so) :o

I'm trying to figure out how he could even SEE from the air the details that he drew.

I have see this guy before and it is quite amazing what he does... however I have been thought that doing things like this most sertanly is because some autistic people (often called savants) manage to lock out of their brain everything but what interests them. Imagine if you manage to totally managed not to hear the buzzing of the computer, the TV in the the livingroom, your kids walking over the floor, the birds singing outside, the buzzing from the fridge...etc and then imagine that you manage to put all the energy of that into one spesific thing... and I'm pretty sure that you would be able to do things you never thought you could do.

That was cool, and I also found this:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4913196365903075662

It's about Savants. The guy this documentary is about is not autistic. He remembered Pi to 22'000+ decimal places, can do complicated multiplications in his head and learnt Icelandic in 7 days!

If you find this kind of thing interesting then you should watch it, he describes how he manages to do it (near to the end) and it really is amazing.

From the documentary I posted, savants are not autistic, or not always. There's only about 50 in the world, and the guy in it has social skills as good as most people.

You are right, Rob . . . but most people do associate savants with autistics. Have you read any of Marilyn vos Savant? She has an amazing mind and is not at all autistic. I find it really weird that her name is "Savant" too.

I don't really know an awful lot, but I watched a 45ish minute documentary (the links somewhere earlier on this thread) and I thought it was amazing how this guy 'saw' numbers. He was tested for autism and he 'passed' all of the tests for it except that he has social skills, basically.

PS. Anything I've said is what I learnt from that documentary. It's worth watching, IMO.
