Wow - what a hoot.

This is our last opportunity to get away before the store opens - my son leaves for the summer on Thursday and so there is a small window for a trip for the two of us.

I was rather hoping for a romantic spa getaway but this is Rocco's idea of heaven and truth be told, I'm now a hockey freak too so am kind of looking forward to it. Aren't you going?

We're staying in the German Village - is it as nice as it sounds or a tourist trap?

And yeah, it would be big fun to see you.

German Village is nice. You should like it. Are you staying at a B&B? The tickets are free, but even still I wasn't planning on going. You guys following the Leafs? Dev says his Canucks own you...

That's right, I forget you're married to a Canadian. He's from Vancouver then.

And, the Canucks own the Leafs? Tell Devon to get in line. They may have to fight out that title with the rest of the NHL. For a while now, the Leafs have - what's the word? oh yeah - sucked.

This year they celebrated the 40th anniversary of their last Stanley Cup win. I'm a fan, but it was pretty embarrassing that this was the closest we could get to actually winning the damn thing in four decades - we didn't even make the playoffs this year.

I've always liked watching hockey and rooted for the home town team. But Rocco loves it and it's a lot more fun to watch with someone who is really passionate and who doesn't mind explaining for the 100th time what icing is.

We're staying at the German Village Guesthouse, which looks like a spiffy B&B.

The world is very small eh?

I'm about 1 and 1/2 hours from Marcy, outside of Cincinnati, OH...GO BENGALS...GO REDS!!!

I live in a rural, wooded area, with conservation parks around me so it'll never be developed. :) I work in a small town called New Baltimore, Ohio at a restaurant called Les Flick's Homelike Inn. It's like the Twilight Zone...I feel like I'm back in the '50's or something. There's a small corner store (Sam's Corner Store and Carryout) with a bench outside of it that is mostly occupied by old men smoking cigars and talking about the weather. There's a river (The East Miami River) that eventually meets the Ohio River, on which the little town sits. At the restaurant, we have little sitting areas along the river so our customers can take their drinks or food outside and eat watching the river, if they like. The restaurant itself was built in 1845 and has a ton of history behind it. Due to the mysterious nooks and crannies in the basement, I'm inclined to think it may have been part of the Underground Railroad at some point.

The restaurant itself hasn't changed much over time. Older couples still come in on a Friday or Saturday night, eat our famous fried chicken or cod log, and take a turn on the well worn wooden dance floor. People who came there as babies are now bringing their babies! :) It's a timeless, freindly, romantic place, although it was also the location of a great tragedy in July of 2000. I won't go into that, but I am amazed at the resiliency and strong sense of community that little bitty town displays, and how people continuously and without fail take care of eachother. I can leave my purse in my car unlocked in the parking lot and not give it a second thought!

If you're ever near Cincinnati, OH, give me a shout! :) Marcy, you and Devon should come have lunch there on Mondays when I'm working day shift, you'd like the place! :) Whiterose, you're not even 2 hours away, it would be a nice day trip for you too!

It's not just the snow, it's the fact that Indy is such a flat area of land. The winds there in the winter are bone chilling.

My son lives in Greenwood and is living in an apartment complex that is almost completely asian families. If you ever decide to move, let me know and I'll send you a PM with the name of the apartment complex.

Yes, I go to the Greenwood Mall and ocassionally see my fellow asians...lol....but rarely........

LOL! We're not all that way - I'm the midwestern anomaly who never learned the meaning of the word "stranger!" My fellow midwesterners are usually pretty baffled by me because I tend to live by that saying, "Strangers are just friends I haven't met yet" (but I think it's good for them)

Nah, Tim and Rob are still around contributing (although Rob's on much more often than Tim)

Well you are a rare exception! You have southern hospitality! :D

No, Molly, not THAT part of Santa Monica Boulevard! SM Boulevard is a very long street that cuts through much of L.A. The area that you're thinking of is called West Hollywood (a/k/a Boys Town). That's 6-7 miles to the east of me, with Beverly Hills safely in between. My neighborhood is West LOS ANGELES. My part of the Boulevard is pretty neat--art house movie theaters and all kinds of ethnic cuisine (Persian, Vietnamese, Thai etc.)

Ahhhh Dave......now I am super homesick...../sigh:(

You do, and you'll clean it up yourself!

(Just kidding - that's what my mom always says when someone says something she didn't understand - especially if they are speaking in a foreign language)

PS - I grew up in the midwest (Indiana) - I'm not so bad, am I? :)

I love the Raleigh/Durham/Chapell Hill area. Do you like it there? I have always wanted to live there myself. (I spent many years just north at the VA/NC border - just across the line from Danville.)

Hi, Nadine!!! http://bestsmileys.com/waving/5.gif I lived in Goldsboro for a while a VERY long time ago . . . I really liked it there too.

Hey girls!

I like Raleigh a whole lot...it's beautiful here yet still has the big city feel that I love...without being too big. It's even better now that I've lived here two years (WOW...two years!) and I know how to get around and where things are and such. :D

I love all the TREEEEEES there! And I don't know how.. but it seems to me somehow you can feel the "buzz" of a place as you're flying over and about to land. I always feel so much calmness when I fly into Greensboro. Raleigh was not so bad either. But boy, when I'm flying back into SFO, it feels like we're flying right into a wall of hyper energy or something. It's got a tense feel to it. I guess it could be due to actual electric "noise" in a crowded metropolitan area versus a more quiet place like Raleigh and Greensboro where there is more open space between everything. (You know... it's like the difference between when you have electric and a power outage - during the power outage, you really realize how noisy your electricity was and how quiet and still things are without it.)

Originally from Long Island NY (shouts to Jenny), then California where my heart and my boyfriend still reside (he's in LG, Science...), while I'm banished to sunny (sarcasm intended) Seattle.

The trees was one of the big things I had to get used to when I first moved here!!!

We have trees in Texas...but nothing like this!!! It's still very weird to me not to be able to see stores and such when you drive by them...it's like things are hidden! :D

But they are absolutely gorgeous in the fall...I feel very blessed to be able to see a fall out here....it's breathtaking to live here.

I know how you feel. My area is full of asians. I was born and raised in a filipino community. Not too far they also have chinese, japenese, vietnamese, etc communities as well. I remember wanting to pursue music in highschool so i went to a school outside of the neighbor hood and talk about cultural shock. I wasn't used to being around so many caucasians in the school. down where i live they're usually the minority which is ironic. for me i've gotten used to being in various settings whether it be a hispanic community, anglo community, filipino community, etc. it doesn't phase me as much anymore.

Currently I'm in Mississauga which borders Western Toronto. Often mistaken for a suburb, but has its own municipal government. But, I grew up Downtown. I have a little pictorial tour of Toronto posted at http://mywebpage.netscape.com/Exponant/ACyberTourOfDylansToronto.html
