Gout anyone??!!

Here's an awesome story!

My father has suffered from a condition called 'gout', (arthritis in his big toe) for the longest time, (5+ years). It got so bad that at times he couldn't even walk for very long without sitting down to rest his foot. The doctor gave him a medication to take when it would flare-up but it never really helped much. After his heart surgery in the beginning of the year I decided that my pop needed to have a total health make-over. I threw away his 'gout' pills, (much to his objections) and told him to start eating a handful of cherries EVERY DAY...and to take Black Cherry Concentrate on the days that he can't get cherries from the market; as well as drinking TONS of water. Well, since then he's literally had a 100% recovery! He says that his toe feels like nothing was EVER wrong and he now has a new found respect for natural healing! I am so happy and wanted to spread the work about this. I've always heard that cherries and blueberries are the #1 way to reverse this type of arthritis and my dad has proved to be the perfect example! I have to give credit to the internet for all this information that I've learned....it's amazing how much good stuff you can find out about any kind of health problem.

Cheers!:D

Wow! that's AWESOME!

Hmmm..... well black cherries are my all time favorite fruit, and I just love it when summer comes around then I get to eat some. I do have less arthritis trouble in the summer, too! Never attributed it to the cherries, but maybe that's it!

Strangely though, the last batch of cherries I had was about 2 weeks ago, and this week, I've got more arthritis than before (I can see changes in the shapes of my knuckle bones even). I've been eating Chinese food all week. There must be something in that which is not good for me. But the foods have been so varied, I couldn't begin to guess which one or two things is the culprit. Maybe the corn starch thickener they use in the sauces? Maybe it has MSG?

But then one night I just had a plain garden salad with olive oil and lemon juice. Normally that should be really good for me, but the next day I was swollen up like a BALLOON!

I wish I could count on one thing to work all the time :(

Happy for your dad though! :)

That's great news, BellaLove! :) And more good news, I was talking to a man who has gout the other day and his medical doctor suggested that, in addition to his medication, he eat cherries when available or substitute with cherry juice! :yay:

I would like to add one word of caution: please make sure your Dad follows the doctor's advice for regular testing and/or testing when he experiences other pain. I may be explaining this wrong ... but gout can get into the bloodstream .... and people can feel what they think are muscle aches and pains, but it is actually a very serious and life-threatening condition. I post this because the symptoms are different than the pain in the joint or joints that is the customary symptom for gout, so many people don't know that it's serious and to revisit their doctor.

Yes, cherries have been proven to reduce inflammation, such as in arthritis or gout:

Alawiy, MSG absolutely wreaks havoc on my arthritis. I try to look for chinese restaurants that claim their food contains no MSG.
