freespirit 08-10-2007, 06:54 AM No its not a medical thread......last night I went down to Sydney with some friends to see The Cure....I last saw them in 1993....they are and always will be my favourite band in the world....do you have bands like that where they have been around for so long and their music is part of so many moments in your life. My friends and I talk about Robbie (lead singer) and Simon (guitarist) as if we know them LOL....we knew all the words to all the songs, and my friend Ange was crying she was so happy....so many great memories attached to the music, and people we love, and things we were doing
anyway they were awesome....they played non stop for three hours and sound so good...loud, tight, played all their old songs which was excellent...we all put our Doc Martens on, dressed in our best black and smudged our lippie in honour of the moment....and proceeded to dance for the whole gig...I have blisters on my feet LMAO and a big smile on my face still....
I am Chez and I am a 48 yo groupie LOL. Lucky the band are all my age.

eponavet 08-10-2007, 08:31 AM Now I can't get Kyoto Song out of my head......:p
The Cure was THE band for me throughout high school and beyond. I was just listening to them yesterday. :)
I saw a local woman perform several weeks ago and this coming Halloween will be my 30th anniversary of the first time I saw her band play. Last year, I took my YM to see the Dead Kennedys, another band from my college days! So many of the bands of my youth are still performing. Elvis Costello, The Pretenders, The Police, U2... :D
I am totally bummed that the current tour with the Stray Cats, The Pretenders and ZZ Top did not come to my city.
I am upset how much it costs to see a decent band play at a large venue and I am unwilling to pay the price for good seats. Also, when I was in school, and in my early 20's, I got to go backstage a lot to meet the bands.
Rozie 08-10-2007, 10:42 AM Sounds like awesome fun! I also am a Cure fan, but I've never heard them in person. One thing I love is they are so upbeat, so danceable!
BellaLove 08-10-2007, 11:04 AM Omigosh! The Cure is going to be performing at the Santa Barbara Bowl soon! So are the Stray Cats and the Pretenders.......alas I'm not going to any of them. :-(
But I am going to Diana Krall!! LOVE HER!!!

Upbeat....? :p Go get Pornography......or 17 SEconds. The Cure were the "emo"/depressive new wave band of the 80's!
I think they became more upbeat after Kiss me, Kiss me, Kiss me but it's funny b/c I never would have described them as upbeat. :p
PinkCat 08-10-2007, 11:16 AM That's great!
I was a HARD CORE Depeche Mode fan, and of course a lot of DM fans also love The Cure. I actually don't know a lot of The Cure's stuff but everythign I ever heard was really great, right up my alley!

I'm talking about rythm....hair and looks may be emo, but compared to some of today's "emo" garbage, they were definitely spirited. Just Like Heaven and Love Song....just makes me want to dance around (in the nude while I work on some freaky art project! ;)) I also dance to Souxsie Sue, the Stooges....any old school band that has passion...mmmmm!!!
freespirit 08-11-2007, 12:17 AM I wouldnt say they were all doom and gloom coz songs like hot hot hot, just like heaven, friday Im in love....are uber danceable....but yes we had our own goth/emo moment with The Cure....particularly the whole Disintegration album.....they have had so many phases though....just like me....but I still have my 14 hole Docs from those days...ya cant kill a pair of Doc Martens....I wore them the last time as well.....and to this day my eyeliner is liquid black.....I also love The Saints, Soiuxse and the banshees, Concrete Blonde, The Clash, The Jam...Depeche Mode, Psychadelic Furs, The The....
Angel 08-11-2007, 01:17 AM Friday I'm in Love!
/sighs with memories of lost youth dancing through her brain
I'm jealous. I admit!
Isn't it great when you can get all nostalgic for a minute and it leaves you feeling fantastic?
I'm glad you had that 'moment' and The Cure, like totally cool. :bgrin2:
Belisama 08-11-2007, 05:29 AM Like The Cure - LOVE The Clash!!!! THERE marked the beginning of my true, anglophile roots. Rock on my fellow punk rockers. Rock on.
