eponavet 08-11-2007, 03:53 PM OMG...here in north Florida, we have had these oppressive, humid days and I have to work outside in this s**t! The heat index has been above 115 degrees since Weds. I am whipped. No energy......stick a fork in me. I'm done! (pretty close to literally. Weds afternonon, I seriously thought I was having a heat stroke. Both me and the client had to go inside for 15 minute breaks every 30 -45 minutes. I am quite sure that after working in this heat the past 4 days, including today, that I do have heat exhaustion of some sort.)
Yes, I'm drinking plenty of water. Also, increasing my salt intake to replenish what is lost in my sweat. Oh yea, and carrying deoderant and extra shirts to each appointment. woohoo.....:p
Amina 08-11-2007, 03:57 PM Yea, that stinks big time. I remember once my farrier almost passed out...
However, a 115 index sounds LOVELY...it's been about 140-150 (real degrees, not index) here in Riyadh for the last month. I go out only at night and still I end up getting sick.
Anyway, hang in there...it will be fall soon enough.

Yea, but it's a dry heat! :p hehe
PinkPanther_04 08-11-2007, 04:06 PM I know exactly what you're talking about. I'm doing fieldwork this week, so I'm out in it for about four hours every day, hauling equipment around, sieving sand, battling giant spiders and insects of all sorts, and trying not to let the five million mosquitoes that swarm around me every minute drive me crazy. And that's with 100% DEET bug goop. I have six days left and then I'm finished for another month. Let's hope September is slightly better.
I think I'm through with Florida. One more year and I'm going somewhere reasonable. The winters here are what I'd like spring and fall to be like. And I'd like some snow occasionally. And waaaay less humidity. I'm pretty sure about that.
scott2075 08-11-2007, 04:16 PM OH! Here is miserable too! I'm in SC and I feel like dying! I deliver parts for a living and getting in and out of the a/c all day makes me sick! Then to make it worse, the a/c in my personal car quit working! HE YA!!! Come on fall!!!! I seriously don't do much of anything after work b/c of the heat! I feel ya girlie!
Angel 08-11-2007, 05:16 PM Do you ladies need me to come visit and wallow in Florida or South Carolina with you?
My area got flooded pretty bad by the thunderstorms we had and I found out the changes in pressure mess with my Meniere's. So I'd be glad to sit an the beach and sympathize whilst you are all out busting a tailbone in that heat. :bgrin2:
greeneyedgirl 08-11-2007, 05:24 PM .....and i'd love to contribute intelligently to this thread, discussing our 106 humid heat or how the heat is slapping my MS like a 'working girl' gets slapped when she doesn't hand over her money to "Big Daddy" but.....
i'm incredibly busy trying to scoop my melting body into this handy bucket i now carry with me everywhere.
think imma be shorter come fall.
i can't quite scoop fast enough.
stoopid weather. -.-
tinydancer 08-11-2007, 05:48 PM We FINALLY have a break from the miserable heat that has plagued us here in the DC area for a few weeks now.......thank God!
Still hot but at least I can't SEE the air today. It's been a killer.
Blessings, TD
whiterose 08-11-2007, 05:54 PM I think the whole US has been going through this massive heat wave, hasn't it? I know here in the Midwest we've been having the same temperatures as you all are describing.
*makes note of one more thing to be thankful for -- AIR CONDITIONING*
legallyblonde 08-11-2007, 06:04 PM Here in the Valley the last two days the heat index was 106 wet sloppy degrees! I'm still at 80 degrees in my home. I wonder when Emily is dealing with 140 and 150 of dry heat in Riyadh, how cool her air conditioner can keep her home?
I don't know that I want to deal with much more of this, thankfully fall is around the corner!
Ali
Gypsyheart 08-11-2007, 06:04 PM Baton Rouge saw 110+ heat index today, I think 102 high.
Humidity isn't too bad today (thank god), but I can't motivate myself to doing much. I hate to see next month's electricity bill!
jellybean400 08-11-2007, 06:06 PM Well, epona, we've had the same thing here in JERSEY, and that's just wrong!! The heat indeces have been around the same as your's. My glasses steam up outside from the humidity. Just today it's finally better.
I hate summer, and i have for years. Another reason that i want to move to Maine. Within 10 years... God willing!
yellowrose 08-11-2007, 06:32 PM Our high today is 103 degrees with "feels like" at 109!
My car AC went out at the beginning of summer. It literally wipes me out to be outside. :Thud:
Em, how hot is it in your home if it is that hot outside? I though AC's could only cool it down inside around 20 degrees from the outside temp.
You must be physically miserable. :(
kurtney64 08-11-2007, 08:44 PM My friend and I made the horrible decision to go to an outlet yesterday during the intense heat. It was HORRIBLE going from an air condition to the unbearable heat. Plus like most women, we had to ***** about the heat everytime we left a store, it almost became a game.
jesique 08-11-2007, 09:14 PM We've had the horrible heat here in NC all week also.
We hit record highs everyday it seemed with the highest being 104 with a heat index of 115. YIKES!
I don't sweat so the heat just kills me. I turn bright red and pass out. :( No fun.
What's worse is that my work has the temperature set at about 50 degrees. So I'm sitting all day in the direct blowing air freezing my buns off in a sweatshirt and then I go outside to 104 and burn my frozen buns off!!! :(
Thank goodness it seems like we got a small break today. It was only 90 degrees. :D
Nadine.
DaiTyl 08-11-2007, 09:49 PM Wow - who would have thought that Texas would have one of the lowest temperatures!? It was about 102 today I think. I just got home from the store and I had my windows down and moonroof open and was thinking how nice 90 (after dark) was feeling. o_O

Yeah but yall just finished up with all that rain not too long ago! My parents are still feeling a bit waterlogged!
Nadine.
Amina 08-11-2007, 11:02 PM For those who asked:
The AC here is not too bad, I can sleep at night and sit comfortably - if I don't move. As soon as I start cleaning or cooking or moving too much it gets very, very hot. I think things are bearable also because all homes are built out of thick cement. Our walls are almost 2 feet deep, solid cement. I think this keeps things cooler than the thin, hollow dry wall typically used in American homes.
But, when we go out shopping it's terrible. I only go out at night and even then I am always feeling like I'll throw up/pass out at any moment.
DaiTyl 08-12-2007, 12:54 AM Yeah but yall just finished up with all that rain not too long ago! My parents are still feeling a bit waterlogged!

True, but I took for granted that it hasn't been raining as much lately. I looked out at my lime tree today and it was screaming "I NEED WATER". I guess I should have heard it. :p
thesultanswoman 08-12-2007, 01:23 AM Feel for you Amina in SA.
Remember being pregnant and giving birth in a real heat wave. Grabbed a jug of ice water and poured it over my head during the final phase. Bliss! Temporary relief at least.
I used to find that keeping my hair wet helped, especially when going out.
It's always boiling hot here (Thailand) with very high humidity. We're moving to the Alps next week --- cant wait!
PS Yes Whiterose, incredibly thankful for air conditioning.
kittylane 08-12-2007, 04:28 AM I was in northern florida all last week, it was very hot, its not so bad towards the south, i live in southern fla, more ocean breeze, but humidity is outrageous.
where ever you go it seems that all of us are having our issues with the weather.

The cold water sounds lovely...you know here during the day we don't even have cold water b/c the water tanks that supply the water to all homes and businesses get so HOT from the sun blasting on them all day that if you turn on the cold water at like 2PM it will literally be hot enough to cause a serious burn on your skin! Usually we turn off our hot water and let the tank fill with water and cool down b/c those tanks are inside, away from the sun...so then if we want coldish water we turn on the hot tap and if we want hot water we turn on the cold one!!!
BTW: Which Alps are you moving to?
coloradogrrrl 08-13-2007, 12:14 AM Oh great. I'm on my way down to Florida now. I'm gonna DIE!
