The British Invasion

Ageism seems to be alive and well in my mind.

I caught most of a PBS special this afternoon, The British Invasion. The 60s British bands singing their biggest hits now.

Glorious music that made the preteen, teeny bopper in my brain surface.

But--I had to close my eyes on the really sappy love songs that used to make my heart thump, because it was very disorienting to me, to see that OLD person sounding like the cute British boy I had in my head for those songs.

Besides Lulu, who wasn't ever a cute British boy, but sure has always been cute, the only one who was still pretty good looking was the Doo Wah Diddy Diddy guy, and he never turned me on much anyway.

Peter and Gordon, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Moody Blues, you get the picture.

And I know mentally, that those people really are that age, but man, was I not prepared.

I saw Gary Puckett a few years ago. That was a mind bender too. Oh, and the Monkees. Cute little Davy? After a certain age, a spandex yellow jumpsuit is NOT a good option. Trust me.

The Grassroots, however, the lead singer Rob Grill, he looks very good.

Sometimes your age just smacks you upside the head, y'know?

I think Peter Noone (Herman's Hermits) is still very good looking. I have seen him a number of times in concert, but got to see him up close at a private concert a couple years ago and thought he looked amazing. I guess that could just be my attraction to older men :-) I have seen both Davy Jones and Gary Puckett in concert as well, and for me when they were up on stage I didn't even notice their age. Although I have to agree, anything with spandex would have snapped me back to the realization these men are in their 60s.

To me though... Paul McCartney will always be amazingly handsome!!! I have always thought he was very sexy and is just getting better with age. Once again that could just be my appeal for older men paired with my almost scary obsession with The Beatles.

Yeah, Peter Noone is still pretty. I missed them, they were on in the first part of the program.

I was sitting too close to Gary Puckett. He looked like a Vegas lounge act. Shiny suit and all. Maybe it's shiny stuff that bothers me huh?

Ok, I'll give you Paul, imho he's cuter now, than when he was cute. I was always a John freak myself, though.

During and after Beatles.

One of my oldest and dearest friends is "Mike Smith" of the Dave Clark Five. His real name is Michael Hanley Woodbridge and he is an engineer for Boeing now, living in cocoa beach Florida. I met him on my first engineering job out of college.
'Bits and pieces, bits and pieces...." LOL

"Michael George" is a misnomer. Doesn't exist....

I loved the Dave Clark Five!! "Glad all over, yes, I'm glad all over...." lol!

I loved most of the British bands....but not the Rolling Stones....

And I adored Paul Revere and the Raiders.....Mark Lindsay! I wanted to marry that guy. He's 10 years older than me so that makes him 64 now.
I saw Davy Jones quite a few years ago playing the role of Fagan in Oliver. He started his career before the Monkees in the role of the Artful Dodger.

Yes, it's always sort of bizarre to realize just how old these guys really are. Where did those years go??!! :( :D

Oh yeah, I had the total crush on Michael Nesmith of the Monkees. Oh and did you know that Charles Manson actually tried out for the Monkees???
