I thought it would be good to start a thread to celebrate a negative part of your life that you have conquered. Mine would be quitting smoking.

I have been quit for 2 Years, 6 Months, 4 Days, 2 hours, 21 minutes and 58 seconds (915 days). I have saved $2,882.55 by not smoking 27,452 cigarettes. I have saved 3 Months, 6 Days, 7 hours and 40 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 2/14/2005 5:30 PM

How about you guys? Have you celebrated quitting smoking? How about drinking? or....whatever else you are proud of?

I quit cold turkey. That is the only way to do it. When it is time for you to quit, you must do it for yourself not anyone else. This site helped me alot with my quit. Whyquit.com. Life is so much easier being able to breathe! :bgrin2:

That is AWESOME - anyone who overcomes a nicotine addiction should be REALLY proud of him or herself! My husband tried to quit once and, gads, I felt like I was watching the stage version of "Trainspotting" in my own home! The sweaty shakes, big circles under his eyes, practically in tears at everything. It was really hard on all of us and, ultimately, he wasn't able to quit but watching the experience gave me a new admiration for anyone who's been able to kick the habit.

As for me, okay, this might sound dumb but until I went through my divorce, I never bought a car before in my entire life. On my own, I mean. My parents bought me my first, second and third cars. Then when I was married to my exhusband, he husband did all of that. He also did all of the work for our first home purchase. I just signed on the dotted line.

So my big milestone was that, at the age of 39, I bought my first car. Ever! And I bought my first house at 40. LOL - lame, I know!

Yayyyy for all those who quit smoking. I quit over 15 years ago...and i know how hard it is.

I love the month of October anyway...and at the end of the month, i do sit and remember how proud i am of myself, because the closing date when i bought my own home was October 31. :bgrin2:

I had had a great love, which resulted in marriage - at first good, but then crappy - and worse; a bad divorce, where i left the house we had lived in together and moved into an apartment to save my money. Had to get a new job so i could make enough money to support myself...and when i finally moved out and bought my own home, it was a huge accomplishment in so many ways...so i still celebrate that every year.

Woohoo JB!!! :monkeydance: It does feel good being an independant woman! (Now if we could only be truly "independant" ;) I think you catch my drift lol)

I can't wait until I buy my own house!
Fall is a good time of year, it is my favorite time of year.

Keep them coming! I love hearing people's success stories!

I quite smoking 4 years and 2 months ago! I didn't go cold turkey though, I started using snuff instead but got rid of that almost exactly one year after giving up the sigarettes. To me it was easier to do it this way because I had two addictions from smoking, the nicotine and the addiction of having something in my hand...

Now I can't stand the smell of sigarettes!

I quit being a member of the U.S. Armed Forces five years and five months ago. It's an honorable thing for all young men to serve, but if you stay too long, it's definitely a negative thing. LOL Proud I served; damned glad I got out. It was six months after 9/11 when I bailed out.

Perfect timing, because I was just starting to see how awful President Bush was. Up til then I'd been saying "Aw, give him a chance.... let's see..." It's good to have that freedom back, Scott! :)
