Science Goddess 08-23-2007, 06:25 PM I'm about 5' 3 1/2" tall, fairly small but not teeny but I have some frontal growth (boobs). The best size bra for me seems to be a 34D. This, after wearing a 36C for years and not being quite comfortable - so I'm in the right bra size.
I need an underwire (haven't yet found one without an underwire that works that well) and light lining (so I still look presentable in a cold conference room).
However...being that I'm not a large person yet have slightly large boobs, when I buy a D-cup, the underwire almost always is jamming me way up high on the outside of my ribcage - not quite in my armpit but way up there.
Does anyone else have the same problem or did you have this problem? And what brand of bra will eliminate this? Here I finally get into the right size for fit and the underwire is too long!
P.S. - This is a totally serious post. :o
Belisama 08-23-2007, 07:46 PM One of my favourites is the Body By Victoria hidden wire bra - much comfier than the traditional underwire bras! But the best bra? Bar none, Le Mystere... they're pricey but if you've got the spare change, they're worth it!!!

NOW I have never been able to wear the V secrets..they don't make a 42d!!!!!!
NOW i do like fredericks of hollywood angela demi bras the harlow brands so comfy yet sexy!

YES!!! I've got one and only one because they are pricey, but I wear it almost every day and plan to buy more...eventually. Mind you, I'm 5'5 and I'm a bigger girl with way too much boobage, but this bra is awesome. I've never had one make my breasts look so nice. Great lift and relatively comfortable.

Belisama 08-23-2007, 08:07 PM Hey, this thread reminds me - if anyone is in the market for a red bra, they have Le Mystere bras (the really comfy dream tisha ones!!) on a big sale at the Bare Necessities website. $39.99 for red, rose and pink; $49.99 for brown. Black and nude are at the regular price ($68.00) though...
Sdoah1972 08-23-2007, 08:12 PM Oooh! *runs to site* I've been wanting the red one!:D
Shan
CabinFever 08-23-2007, 08:27 PM SG, I have the EXACT same problem (and same bra size). I found a bra that works for me - it's one made by La Senza (and it's only one style they have that works for me), but it still pokes me in the side, pretty much on the side of my armpit. It's irritating and leaves a red mark. It's been worth it though, since it's nice to have a bra that I don't fall out of.
I'm gonna check out this bar being suggested. Thanks girls!
manofmisteree 08-23-2007, 08:32 PM I am enjoying this thread immensely.

 :tongue2:
theREALTrish 08-23-2007, 09:18 PM I buy Bali's but now I really want to check out the one Kelly mentioned.
A few years ago I went to a lingerie shop here to be measured and she said I was a H cup.... I spent a fortune on a bra that was the most uncomfortable thing after I wore it a few times.
My Bali's are DDD.....
I have two sisters....it became my sole responsibility to carry on my maternal grandmother's and great-grandmother's genes. :o :( :p
A long time ago, Oprah did a great show on bras. I think the best thing to do is go to a good department store like Nordstroms and have the lingerie staff measure and fit you for a bra properly. Then try on the bras they suggest. The expert on Oprah really seemed to know what she was talking about in terms of proper fitment.
Angel 08-23-2007, 09:23 PM $ 60 bucks...on a bra! Wow, next you all will be telling me you wear gold plated undies! No way would I spend that much!
30-40 bucks is my limit and even that's pushing it!

I wish I could buy little, inexpensive bras.....
For fit and comfort I'd spend $100 for the perfect bra.
As far as undies, I love Hanes Her Way for every day and lots of different kinds for special occasions.....but none of them are gold plated.... :p ;) :D

I have a C cup verging on D cup and I'm plus sized. I don't think they make cheap bras for me! But 60 bucks even pushes my financial limits. I'd have to take a loan to cover my cha'cha's if prices go up to that for normal!
I use Breezies when going for comfort only. QVC sells them and they range in price from 25 up. They've got a couple cute ones (that I have from their Barely collection) but I usually get the "ooooo, do me baby ones" from Fredericks which is forgiving to my size.
Darn...no gold plated ones eh? Ah...one could dream. I'm sure one will fulfill my dream. Or at least Manos! :p

LOL!
I m going to check out the red..I have some but I am also looking for some corsets as well:(
Chatterbox 08-23-2007, 10:09 PM I need two strong, strong, strong, little, little, little people to hold mine up.
Belisama 08-23-2007, 10:10 PM LOL! Oh, Mano...
Anyway! Girls, the bra I suggested is the one that Oprah went on and on about during that show miu mentioned.
And I'll tell you what - being on the other side of 40, I can honestly say that the smartest thing I've done for "the girls" was to invest in a *really* good bra in order to minimize saggage and maximize comfort! I'm a 42DDD (was a 36DD but I gained weight. Blek!) and as someone else mentioned, when you're larger than a C or a small D, you really can't get away with those inexpensive cute, little bras and the inexpensive not-so-cute bras aren't worth a darn after a couple of months. In the long run, it just makes sense to spend some extra money for a good bra that's going to last a long time!
VeronicaW 08-23-2007, 11:10 PM I wear a 34DD. It's not an easy size to find (and don't get me started on VS, I think their stuff is overpriced and poorly made) but the one place I do have luck is Target. They make these really basic underwire bras that fit me perfectly and come in my size... and they're like 17.99 or something. :D
tinydancer 08-23-2007, 11:19 PM Not since my days as a little "bunhead" (ballet dancer) have I been so happy to be a 32-34 A LOL.
Way too much trouble for me to have to go through:p
And, they still stand up all by their itty, bitty, selves too!
jellybean400 08-24-2007, 12:20 AM I need a 44/46D and its very hard to find anything sexy in that size. GG, does Fredericks carry that size in sexy bras??
grumpysgirl 08-24-2007, 12:39 AM My sister Bj took after our great grams My sister is a 46 DDD growing up my daughter was FRIGHTENED of those gals LOL

They have a personal shopper that will find sizes for you. I put in 44 in (the limit) and didn't find anything. I don't know if they carry the size ever or just randomly.

you're almost me....lol
imma 32DD and i can't find JACK to fit me.
so, i settle. for D cups because i can find them easier.
If your cups runneth over, it's time to go up a cup size.
it's freakin' infuriating about the 20th time i have to tuck em back inside the cup because I BENT OVER!!!
i procrastinate on going to JCPenney's and getting fitted by those lil grandmotherly women tho because, i'm sorry, i don't want white cotton. :o
CabinFever 08-24-2007, 02:33 AM Good grief, I went to that site a 34D and after following their measuring instructions, came out a 32E!! It doesn't seem possible, but I'll see.
I've ordered the red one! SG, you better get on it if you want one at the sale price. There's only red left, and I think it said there were 25 available when I ordered.
I've been wearing the same two boring bras for something like 4 years (yes, really), so I can't WAIT to get this one. Let's just hope it fits.
christina923 08-24-2007, 03:27 AM ummm...how can you gals order from a web site/catalog??? there is such a variance in cup size to say nothing of comfort!
i HATE trying to find a bra...i'm not really off the rack size, so i've been struggling here, never thought to go to nordstroms. i'm willing to pay the price!
hey jodey!!! you and your itty bitty naturally perky...SHUT UP!!!!
kindanice 08-24-2007, 04:35 AM I can relate SG.:( Bras have been a problem for me too. Underwires are the only kind that I like at all. And yes, they are pokey. I have worn the same Bali style for quite sometime now. They are not super comfortable but way better than all the others I have found. Lord knows how much $ I have wasted trying to find a bra that fits well and is comfortable.

I probably wouldn't order just any bra online but le mystere is *really* that good. If you're not comfortable shopping for one online, yes, I'd highly recommend going to one of your higher-end department stores and "investing." It's well worth it and, like I said earlier, the bra you get usually outlasts others by a long shot so, even though you pay more up front, you're buying a garment that lasts. I bought two bustiers 10 years ago at $60 each  but they're still in 'like-new' condition!
Inahnia 08-24-2007, 08:31 AM Just let me go on record as saying I hate all you D cup people! :p
Secondly, there is a website called "zafu" that will help you find a bra that fits. You answer a bunch of questions and then they make reccomendations for you and tell you where to find them. They started out fitting jeans, and it works great! I got my last two pairs from their reccomendations and I didn't have to go shopping and subject myself to trying on stuff in those terrible dressing rooms!
lencarol 08-24-2007, 08:38 AM I just bought some Sassybax bras, about $58/each. They are very supportive and comfortable, supposed to eliminate bra line as well.
www.sassybax.com
tinydancer 08-24-2007, 08:45 AM LOL Chris!
I've had my up's and down's with the issue!
Hey try finding a sexy bra when you are a AA......at least now, if I wear one, I can go to Walmart and find a nice A.
I like the kind with the soft wire and even those bug me after a while.
Sexy for me is a color that's not nude lol. And G-strings? Hell no! I wear boy cut briefs that don't ride up.
Comfort or nothing for this girl!
Strwbrries 08-24-2007, 11:18 AM wow we have some boobs with power on this site.
Im currently a 38F but that is because Im nursing. When Im not Nursing Im a 38 E. Im going to go check out the site for the power bras all of you are suggesting..my girls have a tendency to weaken the straps of ordinary bras.

Are you talking about the "La Mystere" bra? That happened to at a website for that bra, but I couldn't bring myself to order a totally different size, but it seemed stupid not to think they knew how to size their own bras, so I didn't order any. :( Let us know how it fits, please.

NO, SILLY! The straps go over the shoulder - not the boulders! :giggle:
But that reminds me of a 42 year old joke that ends with "One bounce, two bounce, three bounce, kick! One bounce, two bounce, three bounce, kick!" :D
joelstrouble 08-24-2007, 01:08 PM I'm an E or F .. but they are very hard to get a hold of to a price I can afford... and if I do they generally come in boring colors like black and white... (please no comment on those not being colors :p).
Anyways I'm planning on having a boob reduction as soon as I manage to take off the required weight... grrr... but it is so danm hard!

Well the only one in my size for $ 39.99 was the red one (the ballet pink was beautiful).
39.99 is at the high end of my price range but my fiance insisted that the girls deserved the very best and made me order one.
So it's ordered and on it's way....and neither of us can wait! :p
Jo-Admin 08-24-2007, 08:44 PM Wow...All these ladies with DDD's and Es and Fs. I'm just a C, and I buy mine at Victoria's Secret. I can't even help out with this thread. :(
jellybean400 08-24-2007, 09:11 PM ummm...how can you gals order from a web site/catalog??? there is such a variance in cup size to say nothing of comfort!
Well, we all know that i dont go to stores or go shopping :) So i order everything. I return it and get a better size if it doesnt fit. I have a post office/UPS box about 3 minutes away, and the closest large store is over 30 minutes away. And most orders offer free returns.
Rozie 08-24-2007, 10:05 PM SG, we wear the same bra size and while in general I have never done well with Victoria's Secret bras, their Ipex bra is one of the best I've ever worn. Oneof the things I love is that it gives my front a sort of youthful lift. I've been wearing these for about a year and have them in several different colors. The material is substantial enough that you don't get that poking feeling from the underwire.
Belisama 08-24-2007, 11:32 PM I always thought it was "over the shoulder boulder holder"?
ROFL - glad to know I'm not the only one who thought about this!! The first time I saw thread I thought, "wow, they just must phrase it a little differently in different parts of the country." Huh! Who knew? Now I just do a mental observation each time I see it because it's 'over the shoulder' here, too :bgrin2:
Shewolf 08-25-2007, 03:39 AM Reading this thread has caused me financial hardship :D I had been thinking my cups were running over a little recently, so I measured myself  I have grown from a 32B to a 32D in the past year!!! So now I have to revamp my extensive underwear collection :(
Anyone want a collection of unworn and very pretty 32B bras?? :(

lencarol 08-25-2007, 10:12 PM Don't feel too badly, Jo. I am a piddly size C as well. What is the largest size made I wonder?
DaiTyl 08-25-2007, 10:29 PM When I was in Chicago I made an appointment to get fitted at that place Oprah recommended...I can't remember the name....maybe Intimacy? Anyway, the lady put me in a 36D and the bra was sooooo pretty at a lovely cost of $80! I took it back to the hotel and washed it with woolite in the sink. I wore it ONCE and the underwire popped out. I took it back to exchange it and they wouldn't let me get another one. The practically flipped out when I told them I'd washed it in woolite. I was supposed to have used their speciality soap (no mention of that at purchase). I mean seriously...I've washed some of my other bras for YEARS in the washer...with regular detergent before the underwire popped out and I buy an $80 bra and it only takes one washing and wearing?! So they made me leave my extremely expensive purchase so that their seamstress could repair it and I got it back 2 weeks later. I put my fancy bra on and went out. Within 30 minutes the girls are busting out of the top of the damn bra. She should have put me in a 36DD. No returns either. So needless to say I was not very pleased with my experience there. Now I have a beautiful $80 bra that is only good for 30 minutes of use. Not that it won't come in handy sometimes though. ;)
Angel 09-01-2007, 12:16 PM Hedgie I got the red one in today.
I put it on and it was one size too small but the cup is right. Not their fault, mine. I didn't realize that having more stretchy bras probably gives more room. Not a big deal, even in the wrong size it feels fabulous I can only imagine had I got the size right!
I've been losing weight so I figure I'm hanging onto this bad boy! My boobs are going to put someone's eye out though. I came out wearing it (under my shirt of course) and my son started giggling and said mom you got some big boobs. LOL. :p
The straps seem too thin, but the underwire is comfortable (even in the small size) no cutting into my armpits. The material is so soft it's divine. I'll see if my feeling changes during my long road trip I'm going on (driving to CA). But it arrived on the perfect day, lol!
Fiance is thrilled.

Hehe, you're not the only odd one out in this thread:) I'm a B bordering on C, and feel a bit jealous of all the Ds, sort of :p
There's this clothes store chain called H&M that has a nice selection of bras, usually very affordable. Don't know if they have E and F bras though.
whiterose 09-01-2007, 02:05 PM After reading this thread, I bought one of those le mystere bras over ebay this week. I bought the exact same cup size that I usually wear. Just to be sure, I measured myself before I ordered. And I followed all the tips on that oprah site somebody linked to earlier in the thread.
But, the cups are too small. Not only that, i thought that the straps were too small, too. So, now I've got a black le mystere tornado style bra that doesn't fit. Thank goodness I didn't pay for it what the original price tag of $75.00 says. I guess I'll be putting that one right back on ebay. Might try another style to see if it was just possibly the style that didn't work out.
:(

jellybean400 09-01-2007, 09:20 PM My sister told me about a site called Amplebosom that has bras for larger ladies, if anyone is interested. They're in England, so if youre not, the shipping and customs will be higher.
