Lovaholic 08-23-2007, 07:33 PM I thought it would be fun & nice to know something "different" about each other. We all are somewhat familiar with our relationships and families, but I'm sure there is something unique about all of us that we don't know.
Care to share?;)
Lovaholic 08-23-2007, 07:34 PM I'll start:
I have been a cheerleading coach since 1980. Rah! Rah! (shakes pom poms & booty)
BellaLove 08-23-2007, 07:48 PM I have played the piano since I was 8 years old. Yippee skippee!
scott2075 08-23-2007, 07:49 PM I play Golf.
Angel 08-23-2007, 07:56 PM This one time at band camp...
I was that chick!
I play 4 instruments and can play a tune by ear.
My instruments are the clarinet, xylophone, saxophone, and guitar. I am well-versed in all 4 and proficient enough with the clarinet to give lessons (which I did).
I still own a clarinet (my main instrument) and acoustic electric guitar and play them both on occasion.
I'm a full-blown music geek.
grumpysgirl 08-23-2007, 08:06 PM I can bellydance :) and I play keyboard:)

I have been a cheerleading coach since 1980. Rah! Rah! (shakes pom poms & booty)
I'm the cheerleading coach at the high school I teach at as well. I love it, but it's hard work and can you say, drama queens?:p

junglelion 08-23-2007, 10:07 PM I have been flirting since god knows when.
whiterose 08-23-2007, 10:25 PM I've lived in my house for 21 years now.

Nadine.
zoliepup 08-23-2007, 10:50 PM I qualified for nationals in Boardercross snowboarding in 2003. I didn't go because I was told its either medicine or snowboarding. I chose medicine... I tore my LCL the next year, and probably won't be able to compete on that level again.
The good news is that I can start competing in the "older" age groups soon and should kick some serious butt there!!!
PinkPanther_04 08-23-2007, 11:11 PM I'm pretty good with an acetylene torch.
LADave 08-24-2007, 12:54 AM I'm pretty much an expert on the history of California.
I woke up in a cabin in Baja after some heavy tequila action the night before, saw the trash can next to my bed, and didn't have a clue how it got there.
I'm neither a "cat person" nor a "dog person"--I love both species!:D
I like escargot and calamari, but bananas and Jell-O make me gag.

Amina 08-24-2007, 05:22 AM I was the only female ever in my high school's history to be on the golf team.
My mom and I were in a bocce league for the Sons of Italy before I got married.
I'm six months pregnant and still not really showing.
kindanice 08-24-2007, 05:56 AM I handcraft jewelry from found objects and recycled things.
cindee 08-24-2007, 06:17 AM Back in the 70's, I wrote a fan letter to Bobby Sherman expressing my undying love for him. :D
And speaking of the 70's . . . I was on the drill team in high school (pom poms, majorette boots - half time show). In my 30's I took line dancing lessons. When I was 40, I took tap lessons. And this past June I strutted my stuff (complete with hot pink boa) to "Don' cha" in front of 100 faculty and staff in a spoof of Dancing With the Stars.

This happened to me once, too! And in my own house! I was hosting a party and mixed rum & coke with rattlesnakes (I forget the contents but it's a chocolate flavored alcoholic drink). Word of advice -- they taste delicious, but oh boy will they bite you.
Before midnight I apparently made a huge fool of myself. The last thing I remember was chasing one of my guests around the house, trying to flick him with a towel. Next thing I know, it is 5:30 a.m., and I'm in bed with my clothes on and a trash can beside the bed. I still have no recollection of what took place between the towel flicking and the time I was put to bed, but I was told later that they had a hard time getting me out of the bathtub after I fell in. :D

Inahnia 08-24-2007, 09:14 AM For about 12 years in my 30's and early 40's I used to own and ride everywhere a Yamaha Fazer 700 motorcycle.
Wish I still had it. :(
If I knew how I would post a picture of it.
Oh, I also bellydance, oil paint a bit, used to play piano, and still mess around with the bass guitar and Irish pennywhistle.
lencarol 08-24-2007, 09:33 AM In high school, I went to URL for shorthand, and came in third in the state! My teacher I think was disappointed, she was sure I would come in first, and put her on the map!!
tinydancer 08-24-2007, 09:37 AM Ina.........I love it. I had no idea LOL!
Can't think of a thing that you guys don't already know about me lol.
Oh, like JT, I was a big fan of "The Who" and Roger Daltrey gave me his Harmonica after the concert to remember him by:o:o
BellaLove 08-24-2007, 12:35 PM I live in the Danish capital of America. :D
Rozie 08-24-2007, 12:41 PM I'm getting ready for my first Cosplay at Comicon 2008. I'm going as Mystique!
Lovaholic 08-24-2007, 12:48 PM This is fabulous!!! So many interesting stories. Thanks & keep it coming!
As a cheerleading coach my teams have always placed 1st or 2nd. (wiggles spirit fingers)
I was a 2 miler in high school and beat a girl who went on to the Olympics.
My son was recently scouted by Calvin Klein & Abercrombie to do modeling.
Oh God I loved Bobby Sherman!
First time I smoked pot I was listening to the Who.
And that damn trash can was next to my bed last Sunday morning!!
bijou 08-24-2007, 01:13 PM Many years ago, I took a course teaching women non-traditional skills, like carpentry, plumbing and electrical work. I almost became an electrician and can still do the electrical work around the house.
When I was 12, I was madly in love with Michael Nesmith of the Monkees. I wore a bobble hat like his and made my friends refer to me Mrs. Nesmith. That still embarrasses me.
I lost my virginity while listening to the Stones Let It Bleed and still think that's kind of cool.
Strwbrries 08-24-2007, 01:37 PM Lets see as a child, danced with a Folklorico group until I decided that music was my passion and I stopped dancing to play the trombone. I still play.
I took cake decorating classes so I can do that,
I can make bagels from scratch,
Every plant that I touch dies...I have a tomato plant outside to prove it.
Im scared of dead people and I break out in a cold sweat when i go into cemetaries.
and though Im an Atheist now, I use to want to be a nun.

LMAO! These wild nights with booze! Very funny once the hangover wears off. Just a tad spooky, too--I look back with relief on getting through the experience alive, well, and with no ER visits as part of the story.:)
I sold cars for six months. What a funny and unusual experience! Also, previously I had been a waitress for about four years, and my dad had always told me that I would be good in sales. So here I was about to sell my favorite cars, but when I called up my dad to tell him the good news about my career change, he said "get out now, car sales is an ugly business." lol. My dad had never said anything negative like that before or since that phone call. I didn't let the job change me. I kept my integrity, saw that the customers lied as much as they thought the dealerships lied to them, and while I only sold 80 cars, I had a couple of really nice customers.
One older couple came in with a Nissan minivan like car with only 20K miles on it. They wanted to buy a new Odyssey. I took them out for the test drive and also told them that their other option was to just keep their Nissan as in was a fine car and in good condition. They bought the Odyssey anyway. They were thinking that it would be their last car. And they also sent a letter to corporate saying what a wonderful person I was because I didn't push them to buy a new car. :D
OHLis 08-24-2007, 04:34 PM At the age of 9 I was the first girl to play baseball on the all boys team in my hometown. I had an .850 batting average and we won the league championship that year.
I was a competitive swimmer for many years and held several state records in the 80's in multiple events.
In the off season, I was a speed skater. My dad was determined to get me to the olympics, but I met a guy and got married instead.
At a KISS concert in 1984, Gene Simmons sent a roadie to me in the crowd with an invite for me to spend the night on the tour bus. Ick. I declined, and my best friend nearly killed me over it. She still reminds me of it now, 20+ yrs later.
I was a chandler for 5 yrs and owned my own business that had an international customer base. I miss it very much.
PinkPanther_04 08-24-2007, 04:54 PM According to my mom, I started walking at 8 months, was perfectly articulate as soon as I learned to talk, and taught myself to read when I was 4. I could also read on a college freshman level when I was 11, but judging by the language skills of my undergrad students, that doesn't say much.
manofmisteree 08-24-2007, 04:57 PM This one time at band camp...

I have played Soccer for 8 years and I used to be a golie!
I used to be a tomboy when I was a kid... come to think of it I still am :D
I didn't learn how to tell the time untll I was 12

PinkPanther_04 08-24-2007, 06:02 PM I startle easily. And a lot of the time I have to hold up my right hand like I'm writing in order to remember which way is right and which is left. And I run into things a lot. One time last year, when I was trying to make it to class on time, I almost ran into the side of a moving bus...on foot.
RobsGirl 08-24-2007, 06:14 PM Didn't we already do this once before? lol
I got my CNA when I was 15.
I graduated when I was 17 after skipping a couple of grades.
I wrote my first book in the 5th grade.
I've written and published over 20 or so books under three different names in several different genres. My last book came out in 2005...as the old timers around here already know...
I majored in Criminal Psychology and Nursing...both of which my ex-husband put the total kibosh on once we were married so I sat there with degrees I wasn't allowed to use.

Belisama 08-24-2007, 08:24 PM It's still good as a refresher course and for new members! :bgrin2:
My early years were much link PinkPanther's I started walking at 8 months; my mother, worried because she had read about a link between crawling and language development, used to play games and make me crawl even though I could walk.
I also taught myself how to read - again, completely freaked my mother out when she walked into the room. I'd gotten out the Scrabble board and one of my books and was matching the letters in the book to make words out of the tiles. I still remember the first book I ever read, at age 3: Go Dog, Go! (heehee)
p.s. Evidently the "crawling" thing worked - I'm a book nerd and proud of it!
Jo-Admin 08-24-2007, 09:28 PM I'll just repeat myself from the past threads! I think these threads are always fun.
Like Pink, my mother said the first time I talked, I spoke a full sentence.
Ummm...I feel for you cheerleading coaches. Im currently in the process of raising my third cheerleader (I have two in the house right now). They cheer for the high school team who holds the record in Kansas for losing the most games in a row...it's something insane like 80 games in row. I think if they EVER win one I will literally cry.
Ummm...We drag race in our spare time...not very well lately though.
Jo-Admin 08-24-2007, 09:30 PM Oh, and I'm the black sheep in my family. My brother, his wife and my sister-in-law are all police officers, while I am a medical transcriptionist. When we all get together and they tell exciting stories from work, I get to say things like "yesterday my index finger cramped up something awful!". lol
Dan_Shues 08-24-2007, 09:35 PM I have a rather unhealthy obsession with zombies...

Rozie 08-24-2007, 09:45 PM Lol Dan. My boyfriend has trained me on how to survive a RL zombie attack and I want you all to know I beat Resident Evil4! Did you all know "picodillo" means hamburger? (That's what the zombies yell at you in the game.)
KaptainKaos 08-24-2007, 10:28 PM I have a rather unhealthy obsession with zombies...
Dan,
I too have an unhealthy appetite for BRAINS!!!
A buddy of mine get together every Saturday night to watch mostly horror flicks. The more gore the better. :bgrin2:

grumpysgirl 08-25-2007, 12:13 AM I love ghost vampires witch's GOTHIC things vikings and reinactments..Im a sucker for it!
tigerlilly5 08-25-2007, 01:56 AM Hmmm, something unknown about me...
I started school at 4 and, like Molly, graduated at 17. I have a 158 IQ, which tends to scare a LOT of men. People always ask me why I work at a nonprofit instead of... idk what... but what better way to use the gift God gave me than to help others? I don't publicize the fact (oof just did huh?), so people ALSO tend to underestimate me at times, assuming because I work at a nonprofit I don't have brains. Go figure. Member of MENSA - which I actually find funny - guess you have to know my sense of humor.
I'm an artist, which I guess makes an interesting combination - I use both sides of my brain. Also ambidextrous though I usually just use my right hand.
I read fast... VERY fast... Tend to read somewhat obscure books at times. Can't keep up with my book habit lol.
I can play almost any instrument, although I won't promise I do so well. Can't sing worth a lick though.
greeneyedgirl 08-25-2007, 11:31 AM i love blood n guts shooting games with monsters.
i have recently gotten alot of satisfaction from Resurection: Fall of Man
so much so, that imma invest in a cooling fan for our ps3
sometimes, when i turn my char around, one of those THINGS is sneaking up and is right on me and i jump a lil :o
i may also squeal but we're not gonna talk about that.

zoliepup 08-25-2007, 02:35 PM Just cuz we can't compete against each other doesn't mean I can't kick your a$s all over the snow when we ride together as friends!!!
J/K Remember, Zolie is old and somewhat tired!

J/K Remember, Zolie is old and somewhat tired!
Girl please, I'm gonna be stopping to look back like where did that girl go? You'll be sitting down somewhere resting!!! We'll just have to wait and see, I promise I'll go easy on ya!
Or we can skip the snow and I can just get you in a wrestling ring!!! The choice is up to you!
Or we can have a Jager contest, the options are endless...!!!!
zoliepup 08-25-2007, 02:53 PM I seriously doubt that you could keep up with me on my libtech!!!!
The wrestling and maybe even the Jager, I'll give you...
But on the snowboard... That's a WHOLE different story!

You're lucky I like you!!!!
Its kinda funny you mentioned liptech, I'm shopping for some new gear now!! Might have to add one to my list its only $600!!!
zoliepup 08-25-2007, 02:58 PM Likewise, my little Jager-swilling, trash-talking sistah! :)

So does my hubby! He is a self-proclaimed zombie hunter.
This one is written by him:
My Tuesday- The Musical
It started like a normal Tuesday-
What more is there to say?
With the usual fatass walking by
And me laughing, making him cry.
But this fatass had a secret you wouldn't have guessed-
He was a necromancer, and one of the best.
I, myself, was shocked when I discovered that-
I thought he was just some fool that is fat.
It just so happened that I live by a cemetery,
And that jerk raised the dead to come after me.
If there's one thing I love to kill, it's the undead,
And these zombies wanted to chew open my head.
So I pulled out my Broken Butterfly, my trusted friend.
I blasted their faces in until my ammo was at its end.
I was on them like stupid on my stepdaughter,
But without ammo I was just zombie fodder.
Distraught, I ran for my worthless life,
And the fatass just laughed at my strife.
So I ran to find quarter, but none was to be found.
With no other options, I ran for high ground.
So, I ran for my life and I ran for my home
While the fat necro chanted from his tome.
I made it halfway there, but they cut me off.
The fat man laughed at me, and gave me a scoff.
Luckily, an ammo shop just opened up nearby,
And I ran in for grenades, but the clerk asked me why.
I told him of the necro, and the zombies after me,
So he said I could get grenades and ammo for free!
So I thanked him and ran outta that place,
And ran into more zombies, face-to-face.
I made living my number one priority,
As I seemed to be the living minority.
So, I shot six times and started to run,
And I put six bullets back into my gun.
I started killing zombies to the left and to the right,
And the fatty watched in horror as I continued to fight.
I shot them, then blew them up, and shot them again.
And when I made it to the fat one, he asked to be friends.
So I punched him in the face and called him gay for fun.
Then I knocked him on his fat head with the butt of my gun.
So I packed up my gun and walked my *** home,
And I waited for my wife to come or call on the phone.
But my loving wife never believes a word I say,
So I wouldn't even bother telling her of my day.

I saw Dawn of the Dead about 11, I think and after that I had to get my hands on every zombie movie I could including some b flick called zombie hookers.
The result of all that gore, is that now I dont like dead people. :p Ill go to the funeral if I have to but I wont kiss them on the forehead like we do in our culture....
Currently playing a game called Bioshock for the xbox 360, I cant play resident evil or dead rising, I get all nervous and end up getting eaten by mobs of zombies.
ktallett 08-25-2007, 06:16 PM i can bend my elbow both ways and also i play a few instruments.
Dan_Shues 08-25-2007, 07:18 PM If you ever need some zombie movies to add to your collection....
I highly suggest:
Dead Alive (aka Brain Dead...directed by Peter Jackson)
The Dead Next Door
Dellamorte Dellamore (aka Cemetary Man)
Night of the Creeps (Alien Slugs make people walking zombies)
City of the Living Dead
These are more non mainstream movies. Movies like the Night/Dawn/Day/Land of the dead..."Return of the Living Dead" series, Zombi....those are standards...*lol*
And yes, I have the Zombie Survival Guide...and also "World War Z"...though I haven't gotten done reading that yet. *lol*
DaiTyl 08-25-2007, 09:59 PM I used to be a credit card fraud investigator.
I've been on TV twice. If you watch All My Children you may have seen me on one of those "fun in the sun" things. I've also met over 40 celebrities, mostly musicians, and a large portion of those meetings were just by chance. I don't know if you can count him as a celeb, but I met Lee Snijders from Design on a Dime today. Love that show.
Polly 08-25-2007, 10:59 PM I partied with "Yes" on their "Owner of a Lonely Heart" tour in the '80's.
I lived on a hippie commune when I was 16.
I sang in rock bands semi-professionally from age 18 to 24.
I played with my cat's genitals when I was 5.
I've done acid, coke, pot, and mushrooms!
I had a pet raccoon (in my house) for 2 years (most of you know about that) but she's outside now...still doing fine! :)
When I was in the 8th grade, a poem I wrote was published.
I'm related to Miles Standish, captain of the Mayflower.
Dan Shues (nice to see ya, buddy! :)) took the pic for my avatar when we met in Pennsylvania!
NEEEEXXXT!
JennyJen 08-25-2007, 11:02 PM II've done acid, coke, pot, and mushrooms!
Well damn...that is all I'm saying Polly....DAMN!
PinkPanther_04 08-25-2007, 11:12 PM Well damn...that is all I'm saying Polly....DAMN!
Is that unusual? I've got a longer list than that (and all before I was 19), though I wouldn't do most of it if I had it to do over again.
JennyJen 08-25-2007, 11:14 PM Is that unusual? I've got a longer list than that, though I wouldn't do most of it if I had it to do over again.
I guess not, I'm NOT a drug person I'm more of a "social drinker"...so I can't relate! But its still all good, I don't judge anyone and Polly knows I think she's the s***!
RobsGirl 08-26-2007, 12:19 AM I played the violin in college. (Lord I was boring...)
I was struck by lightning in 2001. (No, I'm not kidding, you're welcome to look at the insurance forms for my poor dead van...and just so ya'll know, you're not grounded if said vehicle is moving)
I was a minister's wife for a decade or so...Thanks to my abusive ex-husband and his bat**** crazy church people, I now have a serious aversion to church in general.
I had uterine cancer in 2003. (Had a bad cell scare last year but I don't think that really counts) Oddly enough, breast cancer runs in my family (as does prostate cancer, but that's outta my league) so all my aunts think I'm this bizarre anomoly because I had uterine problems and not breast problems...family...go figure...
Belisama 08-26-2007, 12:58 AM I played the violin in college. (Lord I was boring...)
Hey! :rollingpin: And just what's so boring about being a classical musician??
Anyone who's been here a while already knows this about me but, for those of you who are new, I'm a life-long musician. Here's the run-down:
I've played classical flute since I was 9 years old. At 15, I was the youngest person invited to join the U of I Orchestra. My friend, Rudolf (he composed his first symphony at age 9) and I used to give recitals to packed audiences in concert halls and I was invited to tour the UK and play in a chamber group for Prince Charles & Princess Diana back in 1982.
I also play jazz tenor saxophone. My preference is big band music and when I was younger, I played in an award winning, all female sax section. We all played at least three instruments and kicked you-know-what in competitions!
I ended up where I live currently because I received a vocal performance scholarship to attend university. Never had a voice lesson in my life and I made a lot of my classmates mad for beating them out of a scholarship but *shrugs* what can I say? Music is my passion!
I play several other instruments including piccolo (of course), clarinet, alto and bari sax, piano, guitar, trumpet and mellophone (kind of like a french horn).
I played flute when I was in grade school. I wasn't very good at it, but I enjoyed it and it kept me out of trouble. I also played violin well enough to stay out of marching band when I was waiting my turn to play flute in the orchestra. I tried alto saxophone one summer. My middle sister played french horn, then viola and piano. My little sister played just violin. I used to accompany her on piano when she played recitals. Her violin teacher was a wonderful warm woman that would host chamber music playing parties at her house.
Once I got into college and discovered rock music, I learned to play bass guitar. I also played rhythm guitar on occasion. I played in a few local bands and had a lot of fun. I still have a collection of electric guitars from the late fifties. I wish that I hadn't sold any of my old band equipment. :( I also have a great collection of leather jackets and boots from my rock n roll days. :)
Amina 08-26-2007, 06:22 AM Is that unusual?
Ah, it should be.
I've got a longer list than that (and all before I was 19)...
There's something to be proud of!

LadyInWaiting 08-26-2007, 09:19 PM I have climbed the cable from the island to the top of one of the towers on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge with a couple of documentery filmmakers.
Bodhi Tree 08-27-2007, 08:09 AM If you Googled my full name, you'd find 11 pages of websites where I'm mentioned (including a looong recorded interview). But very few people here know my full name, and I'm not going to make it public :p
kindanice 08-27-2007, 10:51 AM I was once offered a Platform Artist job that required world travel in the beauty industry but declined.
