Is your cell phone a reflection of you?

Many believe that a person's cellular phone hints at one's personality. At least that's one of the reasons manufacturers keep releasing new models, as they believe that a phone is more than just a tool, but it's an accessory.

What does your phone say about you?
Do you believe that your phone gives the right perception of your personality?
How often do you change your phone?

Please share and post a picture of your phone if you can!:bgrin2:

I have had my Motorolla pebl since June of this year and I think it gives an hint at my personality. It says I'm chic, modish and definitely sophisticated! I've attached two images of my phone, but couldn't get them bigger!

How often do I change my phone? Well only when they are damaged do I change my phone and that's approximately four to seven months. Not because I want to upgrade but really because I'm rather clumsy and my phones usually fall quite often. Since 2005 I've changed a motorolla razor, nokia, motorolla v60 and I definitely hope to keep this one until the end of next year!

I have the Kyocera Strobe.

http://www.kyocera-wireless.com/strobe-phone/

What it says about me? Hmmmm....I got it from my ex-DH who was going to toss it. It has a full keyboard and since I have teenagers, this makes texting my kids a breeze. I guess it says that I am cheap enough to accept a hand-me-down phone and I and immature enough to text with kids? :tongue2:

My phone pretty well just makes phone calls (and is the only phone I have). It can also take pictures but they're not that great, and it can check my email but the network hasn't been working right lately. It's pretty beat up. I had one just like it before, for probably two years or so, but it stopped working. I think I must have gotten it wet at some point. They didn't sell it anymore at the Sprint store and there wasn't another one I liked better, so I just got another of the same kind on Ebay. I dropped it on the floor at Staples a few months ago and the little button on the back that you push to take off the battery cover flew off, so now that part doesn't stay on all that well. But it still makes phone calls and I'll replace it when it falls apart so much that it's not really usable anymore. I would say my phone doesn't really reflect my personality, but maybe it actually does, since it's a little beat up and pretty well out of date but still works fine.

The funny thing is, the phone I had before this one (well, before the one that was like this one that I had before), I had another model that broke and I inherited my mom's phone which was the same model as that one and used it until it also broke. Then I got a different kind because they didn't sell that model anymore. So out of the last four phones I've had, I've only actually had two different models.

This is the one I have now:

Razors are sexy and sleek, but mine lasted only two months! I think phones are not being made as strong as they use to as the manufacturers want people to purchase the later models. Also, maybe the smaller and thinner the phone, the more fragile it is

Or maybe I'm just clumsy as I said before, but the phone (samsung) I had before 2004 lasted three years and I can't even count the numerous times it fell!

It says that I LOVE the color green. That's probably about all it says about me. I do have a cute picture of my cat on the screen. :D

I like the light touch buttons too.

I don't change my phone very often. I just got this one a couple of months ago and I'll probably keep it til it totally dies.

I have a Nokia flip phone. It is not really thin, so I guess it looks like me. :o

http://www.letstalk.com/img/prod/cell-phones/att/nokia/30782_pdi.gif

But more than a reflection of me, it is a great tool and part of my life. I like for it to be simple and black, and no fancy ringtones either. The worst that I can imagine is being with a customer and receiving a call by the sound of "La Cucaracha".

My phone wakes me up, it is my alarm. I have a pic of my son as wallpaper. It is my watch.

The reason I picked a Nokia phone is because they have a programable Silent mode where I can program how many hours I want it to be Silent (for meetings). Before I used to leave it in Silent mode for days and then wonder why nobody would call me... duh!

By the way, Nokias are quite sturdy and shock-proof. I used to change my phone everytime my son lost his. I would give him my old phone and buy a new one. But now I just get him the cheapest Nokia I can find and I keep mine. I hope to keep my phone for years!

But it does say something about me. It's a Motorola V557 phone; I basically bought the one that looked the sturdiest, and the clerk told me would withstand wear and tear. LOL! I did not have a personal cell phone until last year, but spent enough time with the on-call phone for work that I knew I needed a tough phone. (I broke the on call phone! I dropped it on a tile floor! Ooops.)

In spite of the sturdy nature of my phone, it has scuffs and scratches....LMAO....I'm just too clumsy. :D

My phone says "Ouch."

Pink, I had that same silver LG phone. I loved that darned thing! (even after I lost the two side pieces). Now I have the Samsung sgh d807.

I also HATE clamshell phones. They are a pain to get open and I feel like they always break.
http://reviews.cnet.com/cell-phones/samsung-sgh-d807-white/4505-6454_7-32317405.html

I don't think it says anything about me, except that I hate clamshell phones and I wanted one that wouldn't break. I've dropped it from 2 stories (whoops!) and it's still going strong. I never get new phones, I hate learning new technology, and I only recently figured out how to switch between callers. BUT, it takes good pictures and it gets great reception, so what more could you want?

And my current ringtone is Underdog by Spoon, with a back-up ringtone of Mushaboom by Feist (for Chris). It's hard to get Indie pop ring tones!

Well my dog is going through a chewing phase (shes about 15-18 months old) and I left my beautiful motorola razr on the coffee table when I went to bed one night, so that became an ex-mobile

I am currently using an old nokia that we had lying around (I think from about 2001 or something).

I'd love to say this means I am unpretentious, but it just means I don't want to worry about accidentally leaving an expensive handset around for the puppy to chew :D

The frist cell, that I had was Nokia 252c.It was a Trac-phone(aka pre-paid).It was pretty fairly easy to use and understand. The thing i hated about it,was the mins were soo high.

Now have a other Nokia 1800,it too is a pre-paid aka Net-10.It too is pretty easy to use and operate. Also the mins are much much cheaper.I call any-where in the U.S. and some of Canada for 10cents per min.Texting is cheaper too...its 5cents per text message.I use it for all my long distance calling, instead of useing the house phone. When I buy mins,i buy a 300min card....its only $30.

So the first time that it rang, I was waiting in line to buy a train ticket. That was soooo embarrassing, I had a phone that could have made a teenager happy, not me :o So for the first time I had to read the instructions in order to find out how to get rid of the discotheque in my phone . sheeesh.

Great minds think alike! I'll tell you what else I like about this one, compared to my old motorola. I like how the camera eye is protected behind a glass (or plastic??) window. It makes it easier to keep dust and dirt off the camera lens.

It also has an MP3 player, which is the main reason I chose this one. But, I have yet to download music to it. Been too busy!

One's lab/boxer and the other is mostly lab/blue heeler. They were both nearly two before I could really trust them, but the most destructive phase was probably between 6 months and a year. My cell phone reflects me to the extent that I am REALLY "anti-phone" at this moment and it's seen quite a hard life. I don't even know what it is. An LG something or other.

It works when I need it to. And, when I don't need it to work, it's turned off at the bottom of my purse.

I just have no need to be "so connected" at this point. And, I've also gone back to actually WRITING THINGS OUT on paper. I have a plain paper notebook that I'd be FAR more upset to lose than my phone at this point.

Miu, you are the fourth person I think who have said they have no cell phone. How do you survive?

I can't imagine my life without cell phone; in fact I don't remember my life before cell phone. I often wonder how did I cope before I had one; I got my first cell phone at age 16.

On a few occasions when I have forgotten my phone at home, I felt naked, cut off from the world and simply helpless! Maybe this has to do with the phasing out of public pay phones where I live, so it is highly inconvenient to have to ask someone to make a call on their business (at a cost) or personal phone.

PinkPanther_04
11-08-2007, 10:53 AM
I don't actually use my phone all that much either, but I have such an odd schedule and am not usually in a place where I could be reached on a land line, so if I'm going to have a phone at all, a cell phone works much better for me. I don't have any other reason to have a phone at home, so it would be pointless to pay for a phone that I couldn't take with me when I left.

And it's a safety issue. If I get stranded somewhere it's good to have a way to contact other people. I got accidentally locked in my study site one night (there's a fence around it with a locked gate), and if I hadn't had my phone I would have had to jump an 8-foot cyclone fence topped with barbed wire and walk to a friend's house. But I had my phone, so I called a friend who lives nearby and he came and got the gate open for me. So having a cell phone isn't just about needing to be connected to people all the time. I don't have that need either, and I don't chit chat much at all on it. But there have been plenty of occasions when I've been damn glad I had it.

I will borrow my YM's phone if I am on a long day trip, just in case of emergency. But who do I really need to talk to in the middle of the day? I enjoy my company just fine. And I just like to focus on my driving.

Maybe if I had children, I would want a cellphone. However, my childhood was just fine without one. On the other hand, I am very much attached to the internet and my email service.

And to be honest, I feel that new couples are unduly stressed by being so connected with their cellphones and internet. When I was younger, my relationships progressed in a much slower and more relaxed pace. Now everyone expects their love interest to be always thinking of them and at their constant beck and call. I've seen guys get both upset when their girlfriends don't answer their cellphones AND then get mad if their girlfriends call them too much. What a dreadful balancing act to have to maintain!!

And I just looked. My YM has a very inexpensive Samsung flip phone. I think that it only cost $25 or $35. The person at the kiosk assured my YM that it is very durable. And my YM just buys his minutes.

I absolutely require a flip phone...because I can not STAND auto lock on my keys and if I didnt use it, Id be dialing china as much as that thing gets bumped around in my bag. It has excellent sound quality and texts like a dream....

I use it for everything...alarm, email, texting (a ton to jenny jen, lol), calendar alerts, videos, pictures, and of course calling...alot..

Im not sure what it says about me. Efficiency I guess...I consider myself a highly efficient person when it comes to tasking with little to no pretty frills and flamboyance, lol ...and my phone is as well.

Jes, I think they are just a tad slimmer, and they have the little wheel on the front (dont' know how to describe it). You spin the little thing on the front to scroll through your options.

I loved my original Chocolate, which was just like yours except black, but the dang thing just kept breaking, and this blue one is the one they gave me as replacement (eventually).

I LOVED this phone when I first got it, now Im just hoping that it will function well for longer than six months. The salesman told me they have not had any of these returned to the store with major problems YET.

PS...My daughter just got the exact same phone as yours except PINK. She loves it. I think whether you get a good one or not is just luck of the draw, apparently.

Do you get your email on your phone, too? That's why I have a blackberry. Treos also are Windows enabled are they not?

I could get email, but I opted not to - it's much more expensive. I pretty much bought it for the calendar factor. I always need to be reminded about my meetings, hours or even days before, and the alarm helps out with that. When I had meetings written down in a planner, I rarely looked at my planner, so, I often forgot.

I use a Mac, so I'm happy that Treos are also Apple compatible.

After reading Miu's response, I will say that, IMO, there is such a thing as being "too connected".

I will say that I like having my cell phone, especially now, with travelling as much as I do. It's a comfort knowing that I have it for emergencies, or to call friends to entertain me when I'm stuck at the border, but in general, it's something that I think many people in the world would be much better off without.

Maybe this reaction has to do with the fact that I lived in LA for four years, with all of the self-important people who were CONSTANTLY on their cell phones...and whose conversations were just SO important that they literally screamed into their phones. Or, maybe, it's just that I remember, vividly, growing up happy and safe, without having a cell phone on me 24/7. Oh, wait, this may also be a reaction to people I know who actually answer their cells when they're in the bathroom.

It makes me chuckle, actually, when people ask "how do you live without a cell phone?". World society did just fine for milennia without them. *shrugs*

Having a cellphone while on a road trip is comforting. However in many remote areas of our country, there is still no signal. Fortunately I still know how to change a flat tire.

At this point I'd say well over 300 texts.
