Rozie 11-22-2007, 04:23 PM I have, over the few years I've been here, noticed a lot of questions from people who met in a role playing game platform. IgN published a great article a few years back about the fastest growing demographic in RPGs/MMORPGs, and it was, surprize, middle aged women. The majority of women who play role playing games are now older (35+), the majority of men who play RPG's are 20-somethings. So is it any wonder that we have the number of relationships here that started in a game? Not so unlike falling in love with your tennis pro, except that we are the geek squad...lol.
I think there is a unique stigma to these relationships, and at the same time, its the ability to fantacize and step outside of conventional boundaries that allows these relationships to flourish!
I am wondering if people would be interested in a forum devoted to RPG'ers. Besides talking about our honeys, we could compare notes on what's going on with the different games we play. (They've pushed back the CSI game for Wii until January...we are bummed!)
So Marcy, Angel, et al...What do you think?
springwind 11-22-2007, 06:36 PM I even though being new would be for it, would be nice to trade notes and ect, since most of my time is spent "Ingame" or when i come on here:cool::yes:

pasquali 11-22-2007, 10:50 PM Dear Rozie:
Sign me up! I build and upgrade my PC for gaming performance. My favorite style of gaming is FPS, and I love F.E.A.R., DOOM III, Prey, Painkiller, and of course, the best gaming franchise of all: Half-Life II. You can invite me into a H-L2 map by searching and including me into your friends list on Steam as "freebar." I'd be happy to shoot your b**t online....
jesique 11-22-2007, 11:00 PM Personally....I was against the split chit chats...and I'm against a gaming forum.
Do we really need to be segregated even more than we already are?
Are there gaming issues that can't be discussed in chit chat or relationship areas?
LOL....if I were a gamer...I'd just hijack the TV/Movie area and use it for gaming threads! I think perhaps showing that a gaming area could sustain itself and that there is a need for it...would be more powerful than just asking for one.
But that's just my two cents. Please take it for what it's worth. :D
Nadine.
Rozie 11-22-2007, 11:37 PM Just throwing it out there Nadine. The gaming stuff is definitely being talked about elsewhere. I also am not crazy about splitting the chit chat, but rather than seeing this as a forum that further splits the OW/YM from the YW/OM, I see it as a forum that would bring people of different age groups together.
So often I read stuff here that simply dismisses relationships that start in online games, and while I agree that until these partners have actually met it RL, the relationship doesn't have the quality of RL love, these relationships are "something." Maybe a place where people could talk about this amongst people who have been there and really understand the mindset would be helpful. I see this as a forum much in the vein of the LDR forum. Maybe it should go under Support Network.

ROFL yes...I been gamer 4/ever it seems! Everquest for years then son got me into WOW...MAN addictive!!!!!!!
Angel 11-23-2007, 12:05 AM I'm here! I'm here!!
I know I have inquired a couple times for a forum specifically dedicated to Online / Gamer Relationships (since most gamer relationships begin online and then the couple meets IRL).
But the only thread that pops to mind is this one though: LINK (http://www.agelesslove.com/boards/showthread.php?t=31231&highlight=gaming)
And Marcy, I thought about it and I think there are enough Online Relationships to have their own forum.
Any moderators know if an Online Relationship style forum was ever considered? There are certain issues and experiences that we have a hard way of placing in a forum because sometimes it doesn't really fit under any other forum. Marcy is right, the closest we can come is LDR and sometimes it doesn't apply the same way (like gaming relationships).
It would be a nice place to house those various ways we meet online (chatrooms, games, personals) while addressing the common issues that people find meeting people this way?
I think there should be a forum dedicated to online relationships so you definitely have my vote! :)

Yeah, somebody wanna set up a poll for this so we can see the numbers on this?
Nice 1337 there Angel. I also use NATO Alpha Numeric Code sometimes. But for the most part people fail to understand what some of it means.
Like today in fooseball my lil cousins were basically Alpha Mika Foxtrot when they decided to play me and should've decided to call it Code Uniform before it begain.
I'll give you RPG money if you know what I was saying :)
grumpysgirl 11-23-2007, 12:18 AM LOL angel I remember that thread!
NINJA NOOB! lol love it!
I remember writing something for a friend on how Kai and I met on WOW
So I was standing in Ironforge heading to the AH(auction house)
Trying to find a FMV (fair market value) On some new headgear
When I saw this Lock gnome..I was ROFLMAO looking at him
we talked did the A/s/l and w/e but this was not RL no way it was going to happen
then one day on an Ony raid waiting to slay her we talked yadda yadda
At first I thought he sent me a MT but nope...gnomes FTW
Was a GG and let me tell you we are still together
SO we would go AFK sometimes just to talk before the raids and
be alone
finally met F2F and been together for a while
THING is she did not play games and had no clue WHAT i had said on some of it! LOL
gamers only understand what I mean..the others who dont go HUH!!!!
Rozie 11-23-2007, 02:03 AM MT queen here. Those are some of the best laughs (and most embarrassing moments) I have ever had!!
How in the heck do you tell normal people you met in front of an auction house and the first gift he ever gave you was a lvl 11 pair of gators?

ROFL!!!!!! OMG...ya for sure....
me to! I think the funniest thing that ever happened was in WOW
We were in a Raid and I had just won a snake staff I wanted SO bad...Well druids can Hibernate things..and we were in a area where there were a TON of snakes! So I see this one snake and I am going mad insane trying to hibernate it and I can't! the dang thing wont take it. SO I hear on Vent..Cham wth are you trying to do??? So I said Well I am trying to hibernate this dang snake and I can't!!! EVERYONE started laughing HARD. I said wtf is sooooooooo FUNNY...they said YOU CAN'T HIBERNATE YOUR STAFF GIRL!...last time I drank on a raid..let me tell you!
cuteguy37048 11-23-2007, 02:47 AM lol
You tell a gamer and you laugh at the ones that look at you like you lost your mind. :)
My first gift to my Ex was a custom Miniature image signature for her forum profile. :)

Well the first part is pretty easy but I'm not sure about Code Uniform.
Your cousins were (dead / done / finished) when they decided to play you and should've decided to call it quits (surrender) before the game even began.
cuteguy37048 11-23-2007, 04:06 AM Code Uniform is a retreat. Pilots like to use the code. It's an extreme form of falling back order being given. If someone says Code U or Code Uniform in means the who'll situation just got extremely crazy extremely fast and to get the living hell outta there before it's too late.
Last time a pilot used Code U? was a furball over skies in Nam. Never have had to issue it again. Of coarse even then we were just begining to understand radar cross sections and the need for advanced ACM training.
ACM = Air Combat Manuevering (Dogfighting)

Well I was pretty close surprisingly, lol.
I had a feeling Code Uniform had to do something with calling it quits as my mind pictured them allowing someone in "uniform" to come in and take over.
...I play too many war games...
(Call of Duty 4 is AWESOME...just had to say that since I just got it, lol)

Was tempted to vote for it, but didn't. After all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right? ;)
I am NOT a gamer, but could get into it in the future. Who knows? I voted that it doesn't matter to me one way or the other.

Well it was definitely meant to be a sincere compliment to you. As I was posting the poll I kept thinking...now how would Harrison make sure all the questions were asked?
And of course your sense of humor for every poll sprung to mind and I had to get a piece of that action for myself.
Now flash me baby! :p ...whoops that was meant for PM. ;) :tongue2:

A forum dedicated to online relationships, aka long distance, might be fine. But associating it with age gap and role play seems to me that it would give the view that these relationships are based more in fantasy than reality.

Wow!! Hadn't thought of that particular angle. Good point, Trish.
eponavet 11-24-2007, 07:52 PM I think it's a great idea. Yes, a lot of people who meet online meet somewhere other than a game, but an awful lot of us DO play these things and it's just one more area we can hang out and chat in. It's not a HUGE deal, but just like parenting or health section, it can be an additional place for people with similar topics to discuss can do so in a specific area that allows others toavoid the section if they don't relate to it.
As for fantasy....who gives a flip how it appears. Some people go to the movies, some people go hiking or biking or go to a bar to relax....some of us play online games. It's not a big stretch that a lot of people who are on the computer, playing games, might also be inclined to hang out on an online support site as well as opposed to going to a bar to chat....
ppssst.....Best free game ATM.....ARCHLORD :w00t:
eponavet 11-24-2007, 07:53 PM Wow!! Hadn't thought of that particular angle. Good point, Trish.
I don't think it's a very good point at all....see my above post for more details :p
Dan_Shues 11-24-2007, 08:25 PM Eh...
Idea here....
Instead of creating an entire new forum...why not just post down in the computer section? I mean, the original idea of the forum was for a place to post my tips and tricks...and for me and others to offer technical support for people...
With my new job I don't necessarily have time for the tips and tricks...and haven't for quite some time...albeit I still offer tech support...
But...why not just make my forum a "catch all" so to speak? I mean....not that anyone asked me and not that you need my blessing...*lol*...but, I wouldn't mind at all...and the more geeks the merrier. I'm sure as heck not threatened by more "certified geeks and proud of it" folks....
cuteguy37048 11-24-2007, 09:21 PM Eh...

Well thats just it.
Gaming goes beyond just a pc. You have console gaming as well.
Dan_Shues 11-24-2007, 09:27 PM As I said...
"A Catch All"
Just title it "Computer & Gaming Support" or some happy crap like that.
cuteguy37048 11-24-2007, 09:36 PM And for Role playing outside of a game? :) (you're on a roll just wanna see what other answers you might have.)
In the forum I'm mod for we have a "pub" sticky topic which has enabled us to contain alot of spam in one topic which would otherwise be spread throughout the folder. Alot of it is roleplaying in nature by post entry. It makes the forum an easier read avoiding having to scan through spam topics.
Dan_Shues 11-24-2007, 09:40 PM And for Role playing outside of a game? :) (you're on a roll just wanna see what other answers you might have.)
That's what the Sexual Speaking Forum is for...*lol*
Eh, I just say use my forum...because quite frankly and in my humble opinion that's worth 2 cents (probably less cause of the American's dollar value)....Ageless really doesn't need yet *another* sub forum. That's why...if people really want a gaming forum...tacking it into the computer forum would probably serve both purposes...
Since I'm no longer a supermod here...I have no say in the matter...it was just an idea/option I was throwing out.
bubbleee 11-24-2007, 09:42 PM Eh...

I think it's a fine suggestion!!! And if I ever decide to be a gamer when I retire, I'll go there, lol.
cuteguy37048 11-24-2007, 09:46 PM Well I've found that not all the rollplaying is sexual in nature so it won't fit there exactly.
Nasmah 11-24-2007, 09:52 PM I voted yes to a gamers forum. I do not post a whole lot on AL, but Eric and I met on an on-line game back in 2004 (DAoC), and while he is playing WoW now (I never got into it because I am not a huge fan of PvE  and he is playing Horde with other people we know ) and I am not playing anything, we are both looking forward to trying Warhammer or anything intersting...
Yeah, I think it would be a forum I would be interested in! :bgrin2:

Inahnia 11-26-2007, 08:15 AM I think it would be fun! My hubbie and I are currently totally immersed in LOTRO. We play both freeps and creeps and are having a blast!

Good Idea, Dan. Just change the name as you suggested.

COD 4 is on my Christmas list :)
If I may Quote the Marine Force Recon.
"Swift, Silent, Deadly! Kill them all and let God sort'em out! OORAH!"
I need to pull up my paintball gear. I have USMC issue cammies I play in with my own name patches and an Assault vest and Military Specs made Jungle Boots.
Haraio 11-27-2007, 05:10 PM Games games games games games!^^
I play lots of different games. Right now I'm hooked on Medieval 2: Total War (strategy game), and I'm looking forward to the new expansion to Dawn of War (another strategy game) this spring, called Soulstorm^^ Gonna be so awesome!^^
Oh, and I sometimes play Zelda or Medal of Honor on my Gamecube ^_^
I want a forum where I can discuss games!^^
cuteguy37048 11-27-2007, 05:54 PM Yeah. Well I play pretty much military based games. Halo, Ace Combat, Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, Call of Duty, Gears of War, Killzone, ect.
I've also played, Sims, Sim City 2000, Sim City 3000. But presently I need a new graphics card to continue PC gaming for the most part.
BTW, what I would do is make an entirely new message board with a link built in to transfer people to this forum with just one click. That way we won't detract too many visitors from this forum.

To be honest, I really don't see the need to do that. I seriously doubt you would pull THAT many people from this forum. The gaming "community" with this community is, really, a small percentage...
The rest of the folks could care less. Which is why I said tack it onto my forum. My forum pretty much rests dormant until someone has an issue...why not pick the pace up...ya know?
cuteguy37048 11-27-2007, 07:28 PM That'll work.

:D Well there ya go, in Angel dusted fashion, my way of going the long way about saying. Yep, got accepted, they're adding a gaming forum. But I've always wanted to be a town crier so *opens notebook and crosses out line* well done indeed. :D

Our gaming has become less on line and more playing at home with each other and his friends. They've started Rockband and are having a great time. My YM has "serious talent" as their singer. He is soo geeky that he downloaded mp3's of all the songs so he could practice...lol.
We bought Umbrella Chronicles for the Wii (its pretty much a two player shooting game) and had a blast. Its all the Resident Evil games roled into one.
A forum dedicated to online relationships, aka long distance, might be fine. But associating it with age gap and role play seems to me that it would give the view that these relationships are based more in fantasy than reality.
I hear what you are saying Trish, but see, that's exactly my point. Game relationships are a breed of their own. They are best when they transition into real life, but I have read many a post from a women who look at these as "real" relationships, despite having never met the YM, and I for one believe there is validity to these encounters that is of a completely different quality than other online or LDR's.

pasquali 12-06-2007, 01:19 AM I'm stuck where Alyz and I are at the Antenna installation near White Forest when we're besieged by four or five "Hunters" grenading us with their bluish mortars. I keep getting killed. What should I do? I'm referring, of course, to Half-Life 2, Episode 2. Much appreciated.:)
