Barely hanging on

Sorry I have been posting so little. My first foster placement is a doozie. My FS is only 5 but my agency has decided already that he needs a higher level of care than any foster home can provide. Looks like his sister is staying with me and he will be moved. The behaviors here are off the charts.

So I have to prepare to move a 5 year old broken child to what likely will be a residential facility and deal with two kids losing their sibling bond. I am just sick thinking about it.

Oh and yay, birth mom is supposed to call tonight so i will have two hysterically sobbing kids again for hours after.

I am beginning to wonder why I do this job. Right now I just want to run away.

Thank you for what you do and may God bless and keep you.

Who knows how much your little acts of love may accomplish. Be sure and take time out daily just for you. Even if only a 30 minute bath.

Don't lose hope! It's the most important gift you can bring to your home. I too, work with children who have been abused by life. We have to have hope for the children, because sometimes, they don't have any hope for themselves.

You are doing them the best service you can by giving them a safe, loving place and your affection and joy. I know it’s hard, especially when the whole system seems to be doing all it can to cause more damage and pain to these kids. We all do our parts, though, and I’m certain you do wonders with your kids. Good luck to you; warm thoughts go with you. You will find the strength to keep doing it.

Do you have a bulletin board or site you can go to for support for foster / adoptive parents? If you are interested in one, please PM me!

BeauSoleil,

Ditto!! I echo what Lara says here - minus the part about how I've worked with abused children.

Hang in there. Good people like you are definitely needed! :D :)

They are moving Little D this week. He needs a higher level of care, beyond that of the regular abilities of a foster home. My heart is just breaking.

Beau he will get the care he needs, and his sibling will get a bit of respite from his problems...you are doing a great thing. I have worked in child protection and it is always heartbreaking. Stay strong and know you are providing positive experiences in the lives of little people who often dont have anyone else. You go girl.

BeauSoleil I just wanted to send you a huge THANK YOU from the otherside of coin.

One of the most amazing women in my life was the foster mother I had for 3 months when I was 9. She had the patience and love to teach a severly neglected child how to do everyday things, like clean her teeth and wash daily, She introduced me to the comfort of clean clothes and a warm clean bed, in short she gave me a glimpse of a normal world that I had never known.

So again thank you for for having the love and devotion to do a very tough job :bighug:
