jesique 12-07-2007, 10:57 PM I have an original Nintendo 8-bit system that I got from a high school friend of mine. He had it out in his shed and when I got it....it didn't work.
I found on the internet how to take it apart...clean it...put it back together...and managed to make it work all by myself. (one of my prouder moments)
I find games on ebay for super dirt cheap (i never pay more than 5 bucks a game...although I'd prefer to pay less than 3) and I love love love Super Mario Bros 3.
I'm very excited that they've released the movie "The Wizard" on DVD and am hoping for it for Xmas. (For those of you who don't remember...this was the movie that debuted Mario Bros 3 to the world!)
So I guess I'm a closet old school gaming nerd. Anyone else out there?
:D

cuteguy37048 12-08-2007, 12:46 AM Lol at Topic Title. That was too cute for me not to laugh. :)
We have ours somewhere around here. It is full of mass epic fail. It couldn't work if it's life depended on it. It is now in a vegetative state (not pluged in and in a world of console butthurt) lol :D
I also have an old Sega Genesis and a Sega 32X that I never use.
My mom has a N-64 and a recently bought Gamecube. She loves her purple controller.
I have a PSX I no-longer use. My PS2 loads PSX games SOO much faster.
And I am now a proud owner of an Xbox 360 Halo 3 Special Edition Console. It's the coolest running 360 Console available (yes that includes the Elite 360 Console, I have a cooler running chip that the Pro, Core, and Elite do not have that came from the factory). It saws through Halo 3 and rips through the LAN lag pretty decently.
If anyone owns one and doesn't know. There is a Ring of Death for the Halo 3 console. Microsoft just found out about it so as far as I know it's not listed on the Xbox website.
It's when you turn it on and your ring lights up with 2 red ones and 2 green ones. It's a cooling problem. Send it to Microsoft.
Good rule of thumb for preventing this (which I'm doing right now) put your Halo 3 360 in the most open space possible. Remember it's like a Jet, no air, no go.

Rozie 12-08-2007, 03:32 PM Absolutely it counts! I am amazed that you got the thing to working. See, the thing that I think people forget and that Nintendo gets right, is a well designed game is a well designed game. If it was fun when we were kids (or in my case when my kid was a kid) its still fun! Its not about the graphics, its about the game!

You're passing the pastie-stickie reigns to me? *tears up*
Wait...what are those clamps for?!?! Those do NOT look like an adapter for the NES, I don't care what you say!
Bella 12-09-2007, 08:58 AM Angel, my darling, only you, well, or GG, could get a thread on NES yanked to SS. :p
Bob's babydoll 12-09-2007, 10:49 AM Oh, I am definitely an old school gamer. :D
I have an old NES as well. I still have it, and sure if I hooked it up again it would still work.
I love Super Mario 3. That game was so enjoyable.
But I have to say one of my most favorite NES games is Tetris. I could spend hours playing that game back in the day. ;)
Bella 12-09-2007, 11:11 AM :DDid you ever get the ciy of Moscow to take off? I did. I had tears pouring down my cheeks from eyestrain.
It's a sickness.........
LadyInWaiting 12-09-2007, 11:49 AM *tiptoes in* psssst, my daughter found my old atari I got around 1981, and my pop just passed down his pristine commodor 64.... *tiptoes out before I am thrown out on my rear*
Celtish 12-09-2007, 07:34 PM My first puter was a c-64. There was a game that Emma, then 3, affectionately called 'man anna robot'. It was the first ever game I completed. I found I could complete it in about 3 hours. Then onto Sega, Sonic and ToeJam and Earl.
Now, working where I work, I can play pretty much anything. But never have time to. Actually, lunches have become RockBand jams, which is fun because my life is pretty consumed with the damned thing right now. But the Orange Box...Portal.....*drool*....Hellgate....sigh...(in cidently I'm Finn, Fynn or Synn in HG:L, if anyone else is into it.)
Games are sexy. I don't care what anyone else says.
So pathetic. I'm 43!! When does one actually grow up??

LOL... yeah there were times there were tears as well.
I was never able to get Moscow to to take off.
Bob's babydoll 12-10-2007, 12:09 AM Oh, and if you want to play Tetris online....

Well, you know, we have to have a little fun with things. Sometimes the games are just horrible, or we need something to entertain us while we wait our turn so we have to spice them up a bit.
Or you're XP grinding and well um...you know...to pass the time. :D
Why am I the only one who played a strip version of a game or made a bet that ended in one partner doing something for the other partner? ...somehow I don't think I'm alone in this. :p
freespirit 12-10-2007, 04:57 AM Hey Lades my favourite game is ......PACMAN.....I love that game....my kids cant believe you played it at atable they think its way cool!!!!
Just yesterday my son and his friend were talking about his friend's amazing game console.....yep its an Atari....both these kids have xboxs and computers would you believe.....a well designed game is a well designed game for sure and a good console stands the test of time
Ooh, Super Mario 3!
Funnily enough, we got Mario Galaxy on the Wii for Savvy at Christmas, and I was telling her how I've played Mario games since I was a kid. I remembered Mario 3, but I remember it being on the SNES.
But my favourite game was always Zelda, and I got that for the Wii at Christmas.
I've been told that you can get the old, classic games for the Wii off the internet if it's hooked up, so I might just do that and start playing the games I loved as a kid. :D
PinkPanther_04 01-19-2008, 09:52 AM I just saw this thread!
Here's my new desktop wallpaper:
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2006/features/tenspot/readersnes/readersnes_embed010.jpg
I enlarged it and resharpened it in Paint. Kuribo's shoe rules!
And OMG, that VirtualNES site has Goonies 2! Goonies 2 is the most awesome game ever! And it has Contra! And Skate or Die! The only one I can think of that I don't see is Mike Tyson's Punch Out.
Edit: Playing those games again, I realize how much less coordinated I am now than I was when I was 10. Of course, I don't have a proper controller. Hmm, I will be near a RadioShack today...
jesique 01-19-2008, 06:40 PM LOL...I loved that shoe! I would hop hop hop all over! It was soooo cute!!! :D
I love that NES website...I get caught up playing all the games...but it seems as though I suck at all of them nowadays. Hmmmm.
My new obsession is a Wii. I want one real bad. *grin*
Nadine.
