Classic Rock - Share Your Favorite Songs With Us

Another member, in a classic rock mood, suggested we start a classic rock thread for everyone to share their favorite songs.

So lets define Classic Rock. Its very hard to do. Classic Rock at one time referred to the hits from the 1970's, but has grown now to include hits from the late '50s, the '60s and even the '80s. Classic Rock does not include the pure rock'n'roll hits you would hear on an oldies station, like early Elvis, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Buddy Holley, Bill Haley, etc. The songs should be at least 20 years old (pre - 1988), and should be hits that have stood the test of time. If you listen to Classic Rock radio you probably have an idea what Classic Rock has morphed into these days.

Hopefully you'll be able to provide a link to an audio or video file so we can all listen to & enjoy the song. Lyrics are cool if you can copy & paste them into your reply. Supplying a picture of the performers would be going all out.

If you're like me, its impossible to nail down just one song as your fave, I plan to post several, but not all at once.

My absolute favorite is Hotel California.

Now can somebody please tell me what is a COLITA? As in "warm smell of colitas rising up through the air". I know what colita means in Spanish I want to know if it means anything in English.

I've mostly listened to classic rock stations since I was 12 or so, but it's hard to name favorite songs, really. So I'll just list a few good ones that come to mind at the moment.

I never knew what that referred to either, but it appears that it may be a drug reference. That would make sense.

Love this one!! My sister and I used to sing this together. She still has a band and plays a gig every now and then.

My father was a musician and when I was young my favourite memories are getting to go to some of the clubs to hear him play or having jam sessions at our house with the band...and parties with him pulling out his guitar. He is not able to play anymore because of his health. But those are my fav memories...always music in our house.

Some of the posts here are awesome, such as the links to songs that Scott provides. I'm not that inventive. Some others have included the lyrics, including pictures, such as Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven". Providing lyrics and pictures won't do anyone justice for one of my favorites, which is "I am the Walrus" from the Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour album of 1967. This song you have to experience. It's been 40 years and it's still ahead of its time.

Bobby Fuller grew up in west Texas (El Paso), like Buddy Holly (Lubbock),
and he idolized many of the pioneer rockers like Elvis, Eddie Cochran,

This particular song, his biggest hit, was written by Sonny Curtis who was a
member of the Crickets, Buddy Holly's back up band. Bobby's performance
of this 1965 hit song is a thorough tribute to the style of Buddy Holly.

Bobby's skyrocketing career came to a tragic end at age 23 when he was found
dead in his car in Los Angeles in 1966. His idol, Buddy Holly, had died at age 22.

I just sang that Bread song at karaoke the other night!
That is the song that I sang everyday to my ele Sophie for about the last six months or so that I knew my contract wasn't being renewed ( was finally fired after 3 years b/c of my calls to the usda, etc...) and I would be forced to leave her behind :(
That song is the basis for the documentry that I want to do one Sophie b/c I KNOW she will, even after 25 years, remember that song and a few others.
That song is also perfect for a backround shot of all the Asian/Indian ele's and their eminent extinction from our planet.
