Kristin 12-11-2007, 10:11 AM I was just reading Jody's gift thread and it reminded me that I wanted to warn people of a scam going on!
This christmas, the Wii game system has been very hard if not impossible to find in stores. (Nice ploy for a syatem that reviewers say people buy and only play for a short time).
Anyhow, I ended up buying it on eBay (don't pay the $400 plus some people are asking - you CAN get it cheaper with BuyItNow).
Anyhow, I saw a lot of search results in Google that took you to eBay auctions where they were selling for something like $75. these are FAKE! I could not find a single seller or auction like that when I went directly to eBay and didn't use these search engine result links! (No, thy were NOT old ended auctions - they were still "live").
My only guess is that they get your PayPal or credit card info and you never see the system.
Another ploy - even right on eBay - is to sell one for no reserve at $175 (they run $250 retail) and then the shipping charges were $350!!
So be careful out there!!

The Nintendo Wii game system is the one you may see commercials for - the two Japanese guys who say "Wii would like to play?" It's a very physically interactive game - things like golf and tennis and such that requires the user to actually get up and mimick the moves of the sport.

I got mine on the REAL eBay, but I did pay over retail for it. It was the ONLY thing my eldest son asked for! I didn't think it would be scarce because it's been out for 2 years & reviews were so-so. I think it's on purpose by the manufacturer. But some are sell for over $500 on eBay - that's 2X retail! I got mine for $350.

this is actually very common on ebay, i bought a set of 10 vhs tapes on there once (this was before dvds) and the seller charged me like $50 shipping
when they finally arrived (3 MONTHS later!) they were marked "4th class: media rate, $8" you think your getting a bargen but they jack up the shipping charges and then mail it someting l ike 3rd or 4th class and it takes forever to get, this is the OLDEST scam on ebay

Thank you Kristin, but we don't have a TV either and don't see commercials.
Oh well, we really do lead a primitive life.

There's supposed to be a rule about the shipping cost being 'realistic' or something, isn't there? I'm sure it's against the rules, and whilst you might not get your money back, that user could at least be banned and stopped from doing it again. At least I hope?

Well, if you ever get a games console, this is a good one to get since you're actually active whilst playing on it.
We have one. Bought it off a friend who bought it and didn't use it for $100, with a couple of games! They're good fun.
Amina 12-11-2007, 08:36 PM They're easy to get here..which I think is very interesting.
I swear companies pretend that things are in low supply and high demand in America just to make more money.
Saudis LOVE technology and EVERYONE here has a Wii which they bought with no problem at a normal electronic store...

And you're all the better for it, trust me!

Actually Rob, while "shipping" costs may be required to be "realistic" most shipping costs are actually shipping and HANDLING. Handling is considered to be completely arbitrary.
I think this is why you are able to check with the seller about the actual shipping cost BEFORE you bid.
