Chatterbox 12-14-2007, 09:53 AM I'm asking because 99% of the comments in this race are who we DON'T want to be President but we've still got to pick one. I put this in Chit Chat because, theoretically, Chit Chat is supposed to be a non-confrontational section and I really want to hear why people think a candidate would be the best President for the United States WITHOUT criticism or argument from those that disagree.
Thanks.

I love his take on Social security for one and how to fix it
Helathcare and making a system that works, Bringing businesses together with the public so that ALL children and people can have decent afforable healthcare.
I think he is for families and making the USA a better place. I love his take on immigration as well as how to end the war with Iraq.
Chatterbox 12-14-2007, 10:33 AM Thanks, GG! All good points to consider.

The Rose Knight 12-14-2007, 01:00 PM Hmmmmm.... thats a toughie. Honestly, I find some to like in most of them and some to dislike in most of them. No candidate has really lit my fuse, so I really can't pick any single one, but I can list two from the Republicans and two from the Democrats who can at least live with.
Keep in mind that my picks are less an indication of my love of the four, but more an indication of who I can tolerate out of the current crop (none of whom overly impress me).
Of the Republicans, Fred and McCain would be my first pick. Of the Democrats, Edwards or Obama.
I like Thompson's ideas on the role of government and the size of government. He's been around forever and knows the system. Now if he could answer questions without making noises and clearing his throat for a minute and a half....
McCain I am split on; some of what he says I agree with and some of what he says I am very opposed to. But I do think that he would be unbullyable by the Republican party.
Obama I don't know a ton about, but I haven't heard anything revolutionary or fresh from him. On the other hand, of the Dems, he is the least polarizing and his manner is such that I think he may be able to set a tone where in Congress actually works together (pie in the sky, I know, but one can hope).
Edwards I like because I think that he is the most in touch with the average American, which I really can't say about any of the rest of them. Like McCain, I agree with some of what he supports and oppose some of what he supports.
The rest of the candidates simply leave me cold at this point, some more than others.
Daniel
lencarol 12-14-2007, 02:10 PM No fuses lit here either. Don't even know of any I really like! Sad state of affairs.

Chatterbox 12-14-2007, 06:08 PM Sorry, TD and Sora, Oprah and Al Gore are not on the ballot .... .... ... yet!
Thanks for the input, Daniel. Any statements that are positive about any of the candidates are helpful. Even, as you said, lencarol agreed, I agree, and millions of others agree, no one lights our fire, I still think we should vote and that's why I started this thread: it's better to try to find someone to vote for than just focusing on voting against someone. (You may say I'm a dreamer! ;) )

No no no Chatter.....I'm the dreamer.....Al Gore lights my fire....hahaha:p
pasquali 12-15-2007, 04:06 PM I'm solidly behind Hillary Clinton because she's a remarkable human being, very intellectually sharp, on message always, and very, very competent. She's regarded as a "formidable" candidate, according to Vice President Cheney. And she's been praised - grudgingly - by Karl Rove in similar fashion. She's highly respected on both sides of the aisle. I have no doubt that she would guide our Nation very well, restore our standing in the world (and with our allies, as well) and ease us out of Iraq before her term ends. I want her to win very much, but so many people are chomping at the bit to vote against her that I'm worried. Let's not forget this much: her husband's libido problems weren't of her making and she doesn't deserve to be tainted by his scandals.
I'm sure that some members of this wonderful website are very conservative, but that's beautiful; some of my dearest friends are very conservative, and yet, we still love and respect one another. Anyway, I read George F. Will and Charles Krauthammer in the Washington Post's Op-Ed section every chance because their viewpoints inform and clarify my liberalness. Besides, they're wonderful writers, and Charles Krauthammer is particularly logical. If someone wants to flame me on account of these comments, then so be it, but I won't engage in partisan, back and forth flaming, because I regard everyone here to be a surrogate family. Peace!
Confuzed 12-15-2007, 09:04 PM I probably respect McCain the most, especially in this whole Iraq situation we are in since he has been in the trenches. He can understand it like the others can't. I don't agree with him completely but I think he would be a good leader.
I don't think Hillary or Obama will win, I just can't imagine a majority of this country voting for a female or a non-white. I think the country has come along way over the years but i just can't imagine over a majority of the country voting for them, of the extremely liberal i think they will split votes anyway. I'd be shocked if the Republicans didn't win the presidential campaign again.
I'm not registered as either or but thats just my personal assumption on how the country will vote not necessarily my own personal feelings.
I think if i were to vote today i'd vote mccain but i probably won't vote
special K 12-16-2007, 12:14 AM I REALLY loved what Obama said in an interview...that his own family is like the United Nations (in that his mom was Caucasion, dad African, sister in law -I think- is Asian, etc. etc.). He has been raised with such social and ethnic inclusion that I respect him and think he'd be a great man to pull our country together without personal prejudices at all.
I LOVE Edwards' Health Care plan, because I'm all for a TOTAL REVAMP toward a more European/Canadian/Australian model. I spent a month in Europe last summer, two weeks with some of my dance students and their parents. I talked at length with our Austrian guide about their system. One of our group's family members ran out of asthma medicine unexpectedly, and was shocked to only have to pay $12 for it in Austria....apparently in the US it's about $150 a pop. Our system is ridiculous and nearly out of reach for small business owners (like myself) who have to foot the bill for everything at US inflated prices with huge co-pays and deductibles. I pray every day that I don't get diagnosed with something major because I'm sure I couldn't afford it or I'd get denied coverage by my insurance company.
