My OM is a practical man beyond belief. About three years ago he did not appreciate anything I bought and called them 'junks'. One day I had a sit down talk with him and told him how I felt about his comment. He was not convinced that the things I bought weren't junks but he did agree that he shouldn't have called them such things. Today he asked me what I wanted for a New Year's gift I said he could buy me anything he considered junk. 5 minutes ago a hopped in the car, when I asked him where he was going, he said, 'I'm going to the mall to find a gift junk for you. LOL
I love my man!

What a great story! I had one of my own "touching Christmas stories" the other day...
My silly old gruff man and I were chatting about me coming up to see him for Christmas late last week. The plans were already set, I'm going up there for Christmas and he's coming down for New Years. But, we were speaking about me taking the train, instead of driving, and how long I'd be staying there.
Originally, I thought that he'd be coming down on Thursday, but he sprung the idea that he wanted to stay up there for Saturday night, and that we'd come to my place on Sunday. My first response was that I didn't want to leave my cats for that long.
He starts in with "get one of your neighbors to look in on them". Huh? Even weirder was that he was adamant about it.
I told him that I'd be getting an auto-feeder over the weekend, etc....and he STILL was talking about me not having to worry. By this point, I was just getting ticked, so I ended the conversation.
Not 5 minutes later, the phone rings. My gruff old man only had one thing to say to me. "Yeah, I got you the auto feeder as a Christmas gift. I was going to give it to you last week, but you had too much to carry on the train."
LOL, I LOVE him. He's SO thoughtful with this stuff, and he gets ticked when his gifts get sabotaged. :)

Decent Hostess:
Thank you for sharing this post because it's heart warming. I believe that in a relationship there's accommodation and acceptance, especially if it's both ways, which I'm sure is the case with you. I wish you the Happiest Holidays! :yes:My OM is a practical man beyond belief. About three years ago he did not appreciate anything I bought and called them 'junks'. Well, my sweetie is just as practical and while he doesn't understand some of stuff that I like, he gives me room to indulge. He tries so hard not to appear controlling as I told him that I feared that he will try to control me due to the horrible stories I heard about older men.
He is away for the holidays so we won't be able to exchange gifts on Christmas Day. He has however devised a way for me to get my gift. He left yesterday and he called me this morning to tell me where to look for a clue for the location of the gift. He told me to look into my lingerie drawer and there I found a note telling me to be patient and how much he loves me. He says that everyday until Christmas day he will give me another clue until I find it. I have been searching everywhere for the gift but unable to find it. :(
He has really surprised me as this sort of corny stuff is my domain. It's great though as this game has put some fun into our lives even though we are apart at this time. I am really anxious to find my gift and I just feel so loved seeing that he made such an effort to make our separation at this time less painful.:bgrin2: I feel so warm all over just typing this and thinking about him.

Thanks for sharing your stories ageless friends and happy holidays to everyone on the board.
Oh how I love my so called'Junk gift'. My husband returned home from the mall with a $500.00 ruby necklace in a shape of a dragon fly and I almost collapsed. That's my New Year's junk gift. I wish I get it every year and I'm glad my OM loves expensive junk gifts. The reason he bought me a necklace was because he wanted to break his promise he made to me years ago. His promise' I'll never buy you jewelry, they are pieces of junks no one needs' I was really in shock when he gave me this piece of beautiful ruby jewelry. I guess he has changed. Lucky me!:)

That's very nice DH. I was surprised as well as my sweetie got me a brand new silver Rav4. This is by far the most expensive gift I've ever received. I'm extremely happy for the gift but what makes me even more happy is the great effort he made to surprise me and to make me feel special. He had me in knots trying to find his gift but then the SUV was at his best friend's house. I just love this man.
