I agree. Not good at all. I'm a pretty staunch opponent of beards in general, but occasionally they actually suit someone. That is not the case here.

Oh my goodness, he looks absolutely dreadful. He makes Santa look like Brad Pitt!!!

I agree...yuck. And Conan O'Brien has a beard too...

At first I wondered if they made some kind of bet or something...it's looks terrible.

Conan, too??? You may be right - it could be a bet. It certainly can't be a anything that was well thought-out.

In one picture, David Letterman looks exactly like Santa Claus and on his show he looks so old that his signature moves and facial expressions (what you can see of them) and pithy comments are simply NOT working, IMO.

For instance, in the past, his questions about caucusing and his repeated comments that he knows nothing about the process and then his repeated comments about how he knows nothing about Nova Scotia to another guest would have indicated that he really wasn't interested enough to investigate them himself, but coming from his new facade, he appeared uninformed and a bit senile.

And why on EARTH would he want to HIDE his facial expressions when they are so important to his delivery?

I think men have beards for various reasons and some of those reasons are to make a statement, but I have no idea what statement he's trying to make with his beard but what I'm seeing is, "Don't expect too much from me - I'm really, really old".

I haven't see Conan, but he likes to stroke his chin a lot - maybe he just wanted something new to stroke? (snhggt snhggt)

Maybe it has something to do with the writers strike. Hopefully it will be gone soon though, because he's really cute without it.

Maybe, since he paid his writers out of his own pocket to stick around during the first few weeks of the strike, he can't afford to go to the barber now?? :)

He appears to be 'behind the times' and so uncouth. I don't like watching him at all now. :(

Isn't it AMAZING how much of a difference it makes on our perception of him? I'm really surprised.
