On Being a Geezer

I purchased my regular drink at Starbucks and headed for the door. My exit was blocked by an elderly looking gentleman on the outside of the door who had his hand on the door's pull. The geezer didn't know I was waiting on him to enter the coffee house because his head was turned away from the door; he was watching his wife as she approached, waiting to open the door for her.

I always look for the comedy in life, so as I waited I laughingly wondered to myself just how long I would have to wait for "pops" to get out of my way before I could make my exit. The elderly move at a snail's pace you know. Hah!

Moments later his wife arrived at the door, he opened it for her, and they made their entrance. Upon entering the establishment the old-timer realized he had been blocking my exit, he spoke up and said "I'm sorry sir".

Sir! He called ME sir! What irony. It seems the gentleman who I thought looked like a geezer thought I was his senior! That makes me the geezer!

What a way to start my morning …. :paperbag:

It might not be an age thing...many older gents from a different generation refer to eachother as "sir" (when they don't know eachother) as a complimentary greeting/salutation--one gentleman to another.

But if you like, we can call you Geezer George!

Totally off topic... One of these days I will scan a pic of my son as a baby and post it. He looked just like the baby in your Avatar.

Errrr ... Ahhhh ... NOOOO thanks. :bgrin2:

... He was just being polite ...

Actually, I think what we have here are two older guys who both have a younger self image of themselves. We saw one another as being the older person. Anyway, I thought it was humorous.

That baby is ME! Nobody called me sir back then!

...called maam? God I hate that so much ...

Yes Maam!

... How do you think it feels to be 20 and be called ...

When I was twenty I was called a lot of things and I deserved most of them.

... a bit age sensitive today, Sir? ...

Only when young ladies call me sir.

... I'm a miss ...

You're a HIT with me!

That is one thing I had to get accustomed to down here in the south is the "Ma'am" and "Sir." I'm starting to say it now, and I don't realize it most of the time! The teachers down here will tell you to call them "sir" or "ma'am." Being from CO, that was like  Teachers in CO don't care and you say "Yeah, what, yes." LOL I'm converting and it's sad. :(:tongue2:

Guess Who!
