James Bond in Panama

The new James Bond movie, "Quantum of Solace" is being filmed in Panama, however, the movie is supposed to be set in Bolivia.

My son's 17 yr old gf and her 35 yr old mother have been hired as extras in the movie. They have interesting stories to tell.

What totally pisses me off is that the location of the filming is our absolute worst slums!!! Why if our countries have beautiful, clean and modern sites, all you see of Latin American countries are dirty slums.

I have travelled all over Latin America and seen beautiful places, both natural and man made. But every time I see a movie, I see either jungles with naked and dirty natives, or filthy barrios with loud salsa music playing all the time.

P.S. And there always has to be a chicken in the movie. It seems that there is a law that at least one chicken must be hired for every movie here.

Also, La Paz is a place with temperatures always in the 40s and 50s but Panama is in the 90s. WTH?

Yes. There seems to be a similar problem with movies filmed in "Asia". It seems westerners think we all live in grass huts and have rice fields and such.

Sheila, I can relate -- Canada has some of the most beautiful natural areas and clean, modern cities... but whenever we are portrayed in movies, it's some remote little disgusting place with a bar and moose antlers on the wall and of course a snow storm raging outside. And everyone is portrayed as a hick or a trapper. Argh!!!!!

Oh boy the stereotypes!
Asia is either people with conical hats and rice pads, or smoky markets with unspeakable meats for sale.

Canada is a snowy, and dull place.

Greece is a tiny island with white buildings and every man wears a black vest and white shirt. Men also have big bellies and there has to be a sheep or two.

Eastern Europe is villages with cows and people with bad teeth.

I could go on and on.

The only way to be above all that is to be from the US or Western Europe.

Haha, that's funny!

Actually, I just saw a mini-documentary about Northern Exposure... which, by the way, is set in ALASKA, and was filmed in Washington state in a town called Roslyn. So nothing Canadian there... but yes, exactly, that is the stereotype.

Unless you are French -- then you wear a beret and ride a bike with a baguette in the basket. Or British -- then you have really bad teeth are probably related to the Royal family.

Yeah, I'm glad Texas doesn't get any of that kind of treatment. Or Florida for that matter. :p You'd think everyone in Texas hung out in bars with longhorn mounts on the walls and mechanical bulls, and everyone in Florida was a retired New Yorker or Cuban or at least wore white pants.

You forgot the flowered shirt and the cigar.

People stick to stereotypes for some reason. A Mexican always wears a sombrero, right ? :p

So are chicken in South America the equivalent of Camels in the Middle East ?

Chicken are a bit easier to transport I must say. Smart, vert smart :D

Yes, camels and markets with baskets and persian rugs and sand sand sand. One would think there is not a single tree there, nor a blade of grass.

P.S. My grandma had a pet chicken. :p

And, to tell you the truth, I did live next to a rice field. BUT I LIVED IN A REGULAR HOUSE!!!
