Weird Happy Hour Hero
(Our happy-hour hero to amaze your drinking buddies with.)
A dolphin has been hailed as a hero after it came to the aid of two whales that were beached with seemingly no hope of rescue.
The pair of pygmy sperm whales were stuck on the shore of New Zealand's North Island. Although a group of (human) conservationists had tried to free them for an hour, they were about to give up.
But then, according to reports, a bottlenose dolphin known as Moko "appeared, communicated with the whales and led them to safety."
"I don't speak whale, and I don't speak dolphin," one local man told the BBC. "But there was obviously something that went on.... The dolphin did what we had failed to do."
Look, we're glad the whales are OK and all, but we can't help but feel slighted.
Those dolphins are always trying to outdo us humans. But who has the opposable thumb, dolphins? Who has the opposable thumb? That's right. We win. Game over!
christina923 03-13-2008, 04:27 PM nice to read!
nluvw19 03-14-2008, 01:18 PM I love that story. Nature does it's thing and we can't explain why all of the time. It's poetic and heartwarming. Thank you for sharing it.
tinydancer 03-14-2008, 01:23 PM yw....i live for this type of story!
Mr.MusicGuy 03-17-2008, 11:16 AM Good story indeed. Dolphins arent as dumb as most humans think they are.
Inahnia 03-17-2008, 12:09 PM How cool! :D
tinydancer 03-17-2008, 02:48 PM Um no....they certainly are not dumb animals!
Actually, in INTENSIVE testing, dolphins, along with elephants, have IQ's that are that of "average" human itelligence....their emotional IQ is even higher than a human beings.
To me, this makes these creatures smarter and kinder than most people walking the streets these days
Inahnia 03-17-2008, 04:18 PM Wow, TD. That is REALLY interesting, and I have to agree with you! I would love to meet a dolphin. Wonder if they will end up owning the planet?
tinydancer 03-17-2008, 05:48 PM Ina....I think that "power hungry" is a purely human emotion
Our species is the only one out of balance with the rest of nature!
Inahnia 03-18-2008, 02:44 PM LOL...I meant owning it by default...as in "inheriting" it after we exterminate ourselves.
