I'm having a graduation party tomorrow and I don't know what kind of drinks to buy...does anyone have suggestions as to what kind of beers, wines and champagnes to buy? I'm not a beer drinker so i don't know what's favorable and I'm not too knowledgeable about wine or champagne either. I just drink it and enjoy it...never really pay attention to the brands, lol. :D

I usually go for the local wines. I enjoy finding out what our local wineries are able to concoct (and yes I'm in Texas but we have tons of wineries ... actually the French grapes are grown on vines grafted to rootstock from right here in my town... long story...).

I don't drink much so that's all the advice I can give.

Oh hey, time to change the little tagline under your name... no longer student!!! :D

Hi Mano, I work at a winery. Most people who drink wine, drink white at social events. Maybe some Pinot Grigio, An Australian Shiraz is usually safe for the red but not as many bottles of red as white. It wouldnt hurt to get cheezy and get a couple of bottles of white zinfindel for sweet drinkers.
For beer, Corona or Bud light for the girls, and Heinikin for the guys. Champagne...........hmmm look in your liquor store for something dry, medium priced, please use a towel over it when opening. Dont let it get warm or shook up when opening or the cork will become a projectile weapon!!! Have a great party!!!

Chilean wines are excellent and not too expensive. Another suggestion for the chicks is Sangría. Have some non-alcoholic options for designated drivers. My favorite non-alcoholic... virgin piña colada, strawberry daikiri.

I had a graduation party for my son last weekend. He and his friends preferred red wines, either Merlot or Cabernet. As for champagne I served Moet and Chandon White Star. It's an upper ecshelon champagne but not as pricey as Dom or Cristal, but very tasty... good value for the money, about $40 a bottle at your local liquor store.

CONGRATULATIONS BY THE WAY :pianodance:

I am a red wine(merlot, syrah or schriaz) or sparkling wine drinker....if I serve beer at all I usually serve a good local micro brew...Red Tail Ail or Flat Tire....I also as a joke usually have a bottle of Rat Bastard Ale.....White wine is not my thing so no suggestions for that at all....

I would have lots of bottled water and as a general rule I stop serving alcohol about an hour before the party ends and serve up iced tea, coffee and other non alcoholic beverages....I also ALWAYS have at least one person who stays completely sober and monitors the crowd....anyone at all that seems off the mark is not allowed to drive themselves home...cabs are callled or they are driven home. I have even threatened to call the police...whatever it takes....

Congratulations and may your future be as bright as your smile....I offer up many blessings, Jann

With beer it really depends on who the people drinking it are and what they like. Some people prefer hoppy beers, some prefer malty beers (more English style) and some drink what I consider crap in a can/bottle, i.e. Miller/Bud Light. :p

What we normally do is get a variety. For the wedding we had Scarlet Lady (an ESB) and Troegs Hopback (I think), a case of each, which were the more speciality beers. Then we also had a case of Yuengling (a local lager), and a case of pear cider for something a bit different.

I'm not a big wine drinker, but I do know we had about half white and half red, and the bottles weren't much more than $10 each, if they were that much. We went to a store and asked someone who recommended a variety that would go down well. We had something like 10-12 bottles altogether.

Can't remember what champagne we had, but there were (I think) only 4/5 bottles and we just had it for toasts.

That was for just under 40 people, on a boat for 3 hours. :)

Enjoy your graduation party!
